What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I’ve just bought a new mop and a new pair of high heels for a wedding. I’m excited about the mop and dreading the heels. Middle age is beckoning. What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I left a 21 year old babysitting and I couldn't work out whether to talk to him as a peer or another more responsible child 😬

TherealmrsT · 09/08/2023 13:55

Rummaged on the floor of my wardrobe for something and found 3 pairs of sandals/wedges that I can't imagine how I wore or walked in (off to the charity shop tomorrow).

maddiemookins16mum · 09/08/2023 13:57

Am I still middle aged at 59?

BigMamaFratelli · 09/08/2023 13:57

Trying to read labels at the supermarket this morning made me feel very old!

Watchagotch72 · 09/08/2023 14:00

Mhairi Black MP referring to ‘50 year-old Karens’ to describe women standing up for our rights to single sex spaces. That made me feel middle aged and fucking furious. Ungrateful brat: middle-aged women hold the fucking world together. Who does she think raises children, supports young adults and cares for the elderly and vulnerable? Middle aged women, that’s who.

CountryStore · 09/08/2023 14:15

I saw a photograph of myself with my eyes all crinkled up 😭

CountryStore · 09/08/2023 14:16

Mhairi black is a very silly little girl

My thumb joint swelling up that is undeniably a first sign of arthritis.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/08/2023 14:24

I'm on my way to my nephew's wedding. I was already a grown up when he was born. How can he be old enough to be getting married already? He's not even getting married that young!

Roosmarjin · 09/08/2023 14:28

The current Countdown champion is 22 (or 21 depending on DOB - his age was just mentioned) and was born in 2001.

It wasn't that long ago we were celebrating the millennium was it?

Jules912 · 09/08/2023 14:31

Not technically today but went on a rare child free night out on Friday and was exhausted for days after despite being home before midnight.

I had an emotional argument with my DH last night about his use of the Tesco club card

😅

MrsMarzetti · 09/08/2023 14:43

A young waiter took my lunch order and called me Dear, instantly felt like my Granny.

Merapi · 09/08/2023 14:45

Contacting the local auction house to enquire about selling some 1970's G-Plan furniture.

Scousemousey · 09/08/2023 14:46

Liking the feel of wearing my wide leg M&S linen trousers, despite them not being at all flattering in the mirror. It's more about the comfort now.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/08/2023 14:47

The 20-somethings in the office all going for lunch together and not getting an invite.

Hoosemover · 09/08/2023 14:58

Hosted a book club.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/08/2023 15:06

Did some litter picking and had a grumpy chat with a similarly aged lady (I'm 69) about how thoughtless and rude people are.

Sadless · 09/08/2023 15:10

Waking up in the night for the toilet and then being sat in Dr's listening to everyones date of birth being in the 90s.

Being pregnant at 45 ! I know shock to me too . Going to anti natal and sitting with a lovely lady who is expecting her 2 nd and who I taught in year 1 primary. I felt so embarrassed. She was a lovely little girl and very polite but slipped up when she said wow I can’t wait to tell my mum and Gran. That made me feel so old

@Highfivemum Congratulations! I had my son at 45 and my NCT group were a whole different generation 😂

I don’t know, but at 57 my head still thinks I’m a teenager….. the mirror is a nasty shock in the morning 😮

ConvallariaMuguet · 09/08/2023 15:17

My neck. I just saw it in the mirror and it belongs on my mother.

Yep. Mhairi Black. Her ageism, misogyny, and using my name as a slur, had the effect of making me proud to be a middle aged woman. And also happy that she'll be middle aged one day, not too far away.

That absolutely made me livid. Ageist, misogynistic crap. Every 50 year old woman should go on strike, see what happens to society. Daft besom.

Maireas · 09/08/2023 15:27

@MaidOfSteel - she will indeed. Probably thinks she'll be "different". Of course.
