What's the worst musical you have ever been to?

I love musicals, and DS2 who has autism is obsessed so we go to as many as we can. We've seen Cats (not the film!) 7 times, JCSS 7 times, Blood Brothers, Les Mis, Evita, Chicago , Cabaret..and many others. (JCSS is my personal favourite)

Today we went to We Will Rock You.
OMG.
It was cringingly awful. Even if you love Queen, it was still so bad. Worst 'plot' and dialogue ever, the choreography was...interesting and it was played for cheap laughs and smutty out dated jokes, headed by Ben Elton who cannot..and should not..sing.
Never again!!!

Wicked. I hated it. Absolute drivel. Everyone else seems to love it....

IForgotOurSong · 03/08/2023 21:54

I was one of the few to see Viva Forever, I’m not keen on musicals to begin with but it was very weak.

HiKenHiKenHiKen · 03/08/2023 21:54

Spice Girls the musical was dreadful but I loved it.

I hated The Lion King.

Peony654 · 03/08/2023 21:54

Book of Mormon, we thought it was appalling, so offensive

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/08/2023 21:55

Either ...
The Assassination of Katie Hopkins. Just tripe. A professional production but I think not well received as it doesnt seem to have toured after opening at the first theatre. Didnt care about the characters or even be able to keep track of who was who or what was happening.

Or...
Return to the forbidden planet. Sci fi but with Shakespearean language throughout. Just so hard to keep track of what was going on.
Amateur production and although they were ok I cannot bear it when they cant sing in tune.

Left both at the interval.

Whataretheodds · 03/08/2023 21:55

One written by a friend of a friend. He'd written one a few years before which was excellent, entertaining and witty. I was looking forward to the next one, but was sorely disappointed.

NuffSaidSam · 03/08/2023 21:55

I didn't like We Will Rock You either.

But I hated Waitress.

(Loved Wicked)

TenOhSeven · 03/08/2023 21:57

Cats. I left at the interval.

Scrambledchickens · 03/08/2023 21:58

Wicked, absolutely hated it.
cats
cinderella, the recent one really weak songs, the cast did their best but it was weak.

Ringonrighthand · 03/08/2023 21:59

Pretty Woman. I was cringeing all thru the first half and left at the interval!

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 03/08/2023 21:59

I've only seen 3, (4 if you count local theatre productions), so I've not yet come across one that I didn't enjoy.
Desperate to see Cats....think I'm the only person that loves the film 😬

Nah, I'm with you. I think it's overrated.

I didn't like Miss Saigon either, so there's that.

RuthTopp · 03/08/2023 22:01

Another who did not enjoy The Lion King.

dahliadazed · 03/08/2023 22:02

Prince of Egypt, dull. Didn’t really enjoy Wicked. Bake off the musical felt like they had rushed and hadn’t really considered the second half very well. Didn’t really enjoy Cats when I saw it for a second time a few years ago, the first time during the original run felt magical.

grosslyunfair · 03/08/2023 22:02

I hated we will rock you, but also really don't get all the fuss about Hamilton. Thought it was very dull!

boysmuminherts · 03/08/2023 22:02

Phantom of the Opera...really didn't get the hype. Fortunately haven't seen WWRY....

Jelly4444 · 03/08/2023 22:03

Another for The Lion King - so disappointing! Although the cast did have amazing voices.

Magicmagician · 03/08/2023 22:03

Sweeney Todd, might just have been the production we saw (not in the west end, on tour in big theatres) but it was lacklustre and dull, couldn’t wait for it to end

Peony654 · 03/08/2023 21:54

Book of Mormon, we thought it was appalling, so offensive

Genuine question but did you just not hear of it beforehand, or do a tiny bit of research?

It’s meant to be offensive. That’s its sthick. The writers (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) are known for creating offensive things for the reaction- South Park, Team America. etc.

To answer the question- Jerry Springer The Musical. It was boring, badly written, and songs were shite.

Jagley · 03/08/2023 22:03

My fair lady, I found it so boring, to the point I nodded off I think. Blood brothers is my favourite!

Dombasle · 03/08/2023 22:03

Billy Elliot when it first came out circa 2005/6.

I hated the film but went with friends and sat there wanting to fall asleep whilst everyone else appeared delighted.

Teebles007 · 03/08/2023 22:03

Six. Absolutely dreadful excuse for a musical. If there had been an interval I would have left.

LunaNorth · 03/08/2023 22:04

Phantom.

Jesus. It was awful.

gogomoto · 03/08/2023 22:04

Juke box musicals in general, the exception being mamma Mia which I did like on film but didn't enjoy the stage production (saw on stage first).

My favourite of all time is miss Saigon
