What's the worst musical you have ever been to?

I love musicals, and DS2 who has autism is obsessed so we go to as many as we can. We've seen Cats (not the film!) 7 times, JCSS 7 times, Blood Brothers, Les Mis, Evita, Chicago , Cabaret..and many others. (JCSS is my personal favourite)

Today we went to We Will Rock You.
OMG.
It was cringingly awful. Even if you love Queen, it was still so bad. Worst 'plot' and dialogue ever, the choreography was...interesting and it was played for cheap laughs and smutty out dated jokes, headed by Ben Elton who cannot..and should not..sing.
Never again!!!

Love wicked, we will rock you and the lion king - I’m really surprised at the hate!
I hated Fame. Absolute shite apart from the title song at the very end.

A mate used to work in a job which meant she occasionally got free theatre tickets. The worst by far was The Goodbye Girl. Gary Wilmot was the lead, and he was dragging the rest of the cast through the treacle of the script by sheer force of personal charisma. There's a scene where the child lead turns up, the lighting shifts, and I heard another mate in our group sitting next to me whispering "please don't sing, please don't sing, please don't sing" His prayers were not answered.

Six waste of time and money
Have seen Matilda three times though

WideDyedAndLegless · 03/08/2023 22:06

Mutiny.
I loved David Essex but he was totally rubbish in this.

Jujubes5 · 03/08/2023 22:06

Cats - dire
Phantom of the Opera - not much story really

gogomoto · 03/08/2023 22:06

I admit I prefer opera really, my all time favourite is la Boheme

Figgygal · 03/08/2023 22:06

Oh my god i thought I was the only person out there who didn't like wicked.
Absolutely hated it

I remember not enjoying Saturday night fever many years ago

Saw bat out of hell last year and hated the storyline in that- songs and performances were great though

Mushroo · 03/08/2023 22:06

Cats. It has no plot?
Also the lion king. The staging is amazing but the actual show is so boring for some reason.

BeckyBlue · 03/08/2023 22:07

I'm a big Tim Minchin fan, seen him live many times and was eager to see Matilda.

Finally got tickets, and all the kids in it pissed me off.

And I generally like kids!

MissDollyMix · 03/08/2023 22:07

It wasn’t a theatre production but went to see LaLa Land at the cinema and thought it was absolutely dreadful!

gentlemum · 03/08/2023 22:08

Rock of ages.. loved the film and wanted to see it for ages and finally managed to whilst it was on tour and it was dire and cringey!

GamGam · 03/08/2023 22:09

Peony654 · 03/08/2023 21:54

Book of Mormon, we thought it was appalling, so offensive

That's the point of it, I don't think you were the intended audience.

Choice4567 · 03/08/2023 22:09

@Teebles007 omg six! What the hell
was it?! So boring! Voices were good
but the songs were dull. And they kept going on about how we were learning so much about the wives, but there wasn’t anything in there that was new info!!

FiftyNotNifty · 03/08/2023 22:09

My fair lady. Could barely sit through it.
Loved Six,surprised at all the hate!

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 03/08/2023 22:10

I wasnt keen on Matilda - felt it was very hyped.

Loved Phantom but then we were sitting right underneath the chandelier

But the worst for me was West Side Story - revival possibly in the 90's? West End. Just old fashioned and over-miked like crazy.

LovefromPickles · 03/08/2023 22:10

Cats 🐱

Sonolanona · 03/08/2023 22:11

I have no desire to see Hamilton, but OMG we LOVED Six! Came out singing it and have been twice since.
One that surprised me was Fiddler on the Roof.. I enjoyed it so much!

But today was dire.. and cost a fortune to get to London and home again!

Wicked. I had no fucking clue what was going on and still don't to this day.

Bsmirched · 03/08/2023 22:11

Carrie the musical was pretty dreadful (from the Stephen King book, not about Mrs Johnson). Its only redeeming feature was that it starred Gene Anthony Ray, Leroy from Fame.

Littlebelina · 03/08/2023 22:12

paint never dries sorry love never dies. Dull, no memorial songs and requires you to believe every character has had personality transplants since phantom

everywherebear · 03/08/2023 22:12

Annie Get Your Gun - Jonathan Wilkes was so bad in it we walked out at the interval

dahliadazed · 03/08/2023 22:12

I really enjoyed Six and Waitress is one of my all time favourites.

TogetherInEclecticDreams · 03/08/2023 22:12

'Return to the forbidden planet' was awful and this one was a professional production. Even in tune it was dire and I wished for the end to come quickly.

dahliadazed · 03/08/2023 22:02

Prince of Egypt, dull. Didn’t really enjoy Wicked. Bake off the musical felt like they had rushed and hadn’t really considered the second half very well. Didn’t really enjoy Cats when I saw it for a second time a few years ago, the first time during the original run felt magical.

There's a Bake-Off, the musical??

I hated Cats. Not for me. Embarrassing.
