Erm z lister rather than x-rated?!

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 02/08/2023 02:22

I don’t think it was her, it sounds like it was the party planners wasn’t it?

Much more fun to slate a ‘star’!

while I think the ask was ridiculous , the bakery owner comes over as very crass

BMW6 · 02/08/2023 07:39

I don't think the bakery owner's reply is "crass" at all, she is not vulgar but uses irony and mild sarcasm to get her point across.

Crass would surely have been "Fuck Off"?

FrivolousTreeDuck · 02/08/2023 07:54

The enquiry as printed in the article starts 'I am wondering if you would be interested in the following opportunity' - surely all that was needed was a 'no, thank you.' Song and dance about nowt, in my opinion.

No I don’t think so. The ask was really unbelievable. She’s right to call out CF. She’s a small business and they’ve asked for hundreds of pounds worth of work for free.

Jonnycakes · 02/08/2023 08:05

She put it out there to show people the cheek of pr firms/celebs who have far more money than mere mortals but still try to bag a freebie. And this would have been a several hundred pound order, not just a £9.99 cake from tesco.
The issue is for every business owner like her who isn’t afraid to call out the cheek, there’s another who will put time and money into something to give away for free in the hope the exposure will help them hit the big time. But it won’t. Zero orders would be my guess.
I used to make cakes but stopped due to the cost increases and people not looking to pay what I charged, which is fine, we all have a budget. But even I was asked to give stuff away for free. So if it makes one firm or “influencer” think twice before targeting a small business, then good for her.

TheaBrandt · 02/08/2023 08:08

Most small business owners have brilliant cf stories from customers I know I do! My favourite was the client who pleaded poverty I offer a service some people really need so do work for free if genuine need. I offered that to her then she said she needed it quickly as she was flying to Australia! Err fuck off!

LakeTiticaca · 02/08/2023 08:11

Good for her!!

Catherine who??

Tereseta · 02/08/2023 08:17

Tbf Catherine might not even be aware that they asked for this.

topnoddy · 02/08/2023 08:20

Aren't X rated celebs porn stars ?

GenieGenealogy · 02/08/2023 08:21

The reply was ‘Unfortunately as my mortgage provider doesn’t take payment “in the form of promotion on their socials”, and my staff can’t feed their kids with exposure on Instagram, I’ll have to decline your very generous offer.’

Not rude at all. Everyone who has this sort of business gets these requests all the time.

TheDutchHouse · 02/08/2023 08:23

As someone who lived locally to her family at one point I'd say either she or her very close family knew this was being asked of the bakery. One particular family member would drop in to every conversation, completely unsolicited about who their famous xxxxxxxx was and was often looking to dine from it.

FredaFox · 02/08/2023 08:25

This was on tattle days ago before it hit the mail, no name was given but people soon worked it out to be Catherine

It's getting all too common for small businesses to be asked for freebies for influencers and z listers "for exposure" these businesses battled through covid to stay open and can't afford freebies for people who can afford it m. I'm glad more and more places are calling them out

TheaBrandt · 02/08/2023 08:27

I think it’s brilliant that’s it’s backfired may make other “influencers” and “celebrities” think twice before grifting at the expense of small hard working business people.

Lostinplaces · 02/08/2023 08:27

Good on her for calling out this utterly cheeky fuckery bollocks.

forgivingfiggy · 02/08/2023 08:28

I don't think it was a ridiculous request. And the bakery was well within its rights to decline. But was the social media involvement really necessary? She's scathing about being offered media exposure in exchange for a couple of cakes, but is happy to ramp up the social media exposure at the expense of a celebrity (who wasn't involved in the negotiations) and a party planning company who only requested something very politely. The bakery doesn't come out of this looking like the hero.

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/08/2023 08:29

Lol at X rated! 🤣🤣🤣

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 02/08/2023 08:29

The article says…….

’As part of the collaboration, our client would cover all of Three Little Birds Bakery’s expenses and costs in exchange for social media content and local and national exposure for their business. To confirm, NVRLND are also retained on the same expenses-only basis.’

So the party planners aren’t getting paid either? Buying expensive cakes and hiring party planners aren’t really something that happens in my world, but that’s right? They’re not getting paid, they’re doing it for instagram publicity too? The actress knew about that then as she hired them I presume?

Really?

Apart from publishing it, only crass thing was someone expecting something for free or 'exposure '

How do you know the celebrity wasn't involved?

Good on this woman for putting it all in the press! This celebrity earns many multiples of the people who work in the bakery and no doubt the owner herself! The absolute bate-faced cheek of it. No one likes a grabby chancer.

But was the social media involvement really necessary?

Bakery took to social media to show the 'influencers' that they didn't need the social media exposure, thanks. SM isn't just for one side to use. You bet that if bakery had taken on the kind offer and not delivered to the 'star's' satisfaction, that would have been all over SM how unhappy she is and how it spoiled her birthday that the cakes from X bakery were rubbish. So yeah, bakery's as entitled to use it as the influencers are.

"Couple of cakes"?????,

They wanted to blag 102 cakes! One large and blingy 🙄, one small for the "celebrity's" DH, and 100 cup cakes!!

What is NOT ridiculous about trying to blag freebies when the "celebrity" is not on the bones of their arse?

If it was for a Charity bash to raise funds maybe, but for a well paid successful actor???? Cone off it!!
