Just seen the IG reply. She's still not doing herself any favours!

Saying Something along the lines of I'm so sorry, I understand times are hard and expecting anyone to do anything for me for free is a bit cheeky.

kittykarate · 02/08/2023 09:48

There was an indie wool shop in Manchester who when approached for a similar 'opportunity' blogged it, naming no names and started a range of colours called "If I want exposure I'll get my tits out".

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/08/2023 09:49

The bakery have played this really well and got loads of exposure now. Good on them.Smile

@coxesorangepippin such a stupid non story expected of the Mail.
It was the events company who made the request not the 'celebrity'
The 'celebrity' doesn't seem to be involved at all - why on earth are you calling her a cheeky cow ?

They were well within their rights to ask, lots of companies jump at the chance - thats quite literally how the awful influencer model works. bakery quite rightly said no.
Whipping up a scandal from nothing 🙃

It’s in papers other than the DM !

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 02/08/2023 09:51

There’s a lot of stuff in her instagram that is “#gifted”.

TheDutchHouse · 02/08/2023 09:53

Rooroobear · 02/08/2023 09:24

Her reply has completely put me off her. Seemed quite nice now I think she’s a twat! The bakery lady had every right to put that in her socials and to say she hopes she’s got the attention she was craving…..erm the or company you employed sent her that email! Misrepresented my arse!! Doing herself no favours

Honestly, people who seem nice in the public eye can be absolute divas cunts in their little town and surrounding villages and her family have already got a name for themselves there. This came as no surprise.

Remind me who the events company works for? I used to work for an events company - we didn't rush off organising things without client input. A lot of it.

Why’s she having her 40th birthday party on her husband’s birthday?

I know, and he gets a smaller cake too! I think that in itself comfirms some of the stories I've heard about her.

This celebrity earns many multiples of the people who work in the bakery and no doubt the owner herself!

She probably doesn't, in fact. The soaps notoriously don't pay that well unless you're a really big star.

Well the bakery owners/workers are probably on not much more than minimum wage, so this z list sleb will be on multiples more than that!

Like those stars who claimed they were innocent when they were found out to be involved in tax evasion schemes and blamed their advisors! No sane person believes that they didn't know exactly what was going on and that it was on their instructions.

LegendsBeyond · 02/08/2023 10:06

Good for the bakery. CT comes across as really unpleasant. She’s hardly a top celebrity either.

Every artist or creative friend I have has at least one of these stories about CFs who seem to think that 'exposure' is a legitimate currency.

The sheer gall of some people is astonishing.

It's nothing new. There was a TV program about the 1920s and the "Posh" famous hotels in London giving away free parties for the popular socialites of the time, to showcase their hotels, get other "slebs" of the day into their hotels, etc., all in the hope of paid business in the future. "Famous" people have been milking their fame for decades to get freebies. The only difference these days is that it's all based around social media.

Zodfa · 02/08/2023 10:13

I suppose in such circumstances one could send them a greatly inflated quote for "expenses" and then it's up to them whether or not they accept it.

Poke · 02/08/2023 10:17

CT’s response is awful! What a dreadful attitude.

Trouble is then they'd risk the sleb being all over social media saying they're a rip-off bakery. You really can't win at all.

I can just imagine the sad face claiming how unfair it was that the bakery wanted all the SM exposure and were only willing to give a 10% reduction (which is probably their "profit" after accounting for time costs, ingredients, overheads, etc).

The reality is the sleb (or their agents) was probably just expecting to pay for the ingredients so maybe expecting a discount of 80% or even 90% because as we all know (!!!) the ingredients of cakes cost next to nothing don't they?

Comefromaway · 02/08/2023 10:22

The party planner are not being paid either, only in exposure.

As an aside the bakery posted a pic of a fabulous cake she did for Mel B stating that it was fully paid for by her friend

The enquiry as printed in the article starts 'I am wondering if you would be interested in the following opportunity' - surely all that was needed was a 'no, thank you.' Song and dance about nowt, in my opinion.

My thoughts exactly. Just a simple reply back to the party planners would have sufficed, but the cake shop owner wouldn't have got herself any free publicity that way. She's just as bad in my books

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/08/2023 10:23

I work in an industry where we are often asked for freebies in return for 'exposure.' We've done it a couple of times in the early days -fairly big celebrity weddings etc but we got absolutely zero from it. The credits are always hidden and to be honest who ever goes looking for them anyway? It's a lot of hard, expensive work for very little.
Now we just politely say no.

There's no way CT wouldn't have signed off on the events company blagging for free stuff - they will have sent her at the very least an itemised expectation of cost for the party. She's made herself look a right twat in her insta reply.

starrynight19 · 02/08/2023 10:32

Wow CT response. What a vile woman she is. Comes across as rude and disrespectful and used to getting whatever she wants ‘babes’ how demeaning.

Well done to that bakery 👏

Or maybe she is sick of being asked to work for.hours for nothing. Would you work for free? Maybe by posting on her socials and highlighting this problem she is will discourage others from contacting her asking her and her staff to subsidise a "celeb"'s birthday party.

And Cat's response was shit. Maybe she should be spending some of her saved cash on a PR person rather than party planners.

And who the fuck has a "Camp as Tits" theme for a 40th birthday party??? Why are tits camp?

forgivingfiggy · 02/08/2023 08:28

I don't think it was a ridiculous request. And the bakery was well within its rights to decline. But was the social media involvement really necessary? She's scathing about being offered media exposure in exchange for a couple of cakes, but is happy to ramp up the social media exposure at the expense of a celebrity (who wasn't involved in the negotiations) and a party planning company who only requested something very politely. The bakery doesn't come out of this looking like the hero.

Absolute bollocks that the celebrity wouldn't know this was being done! They are all at it! The baker was absolutely right to call this out because its grifting at its finest!

gettingoldisshit · 02/08/2023 10:45

CT showed exactly what a bitch she really is with her spiteful reply!

Poke · 02/08/2023 10:47

The way she adjusts her glasses and gives a smug look makes me so angry!

Clymene · 02/08/2023 10:48

I hope the bakery goes from strength to strength. That video is embarrassing
