Or maybe she is sick of being asked to work for.hours for nothing. Would you work for free? Maybe by posting on her socials and highlighting this problem she is will discourage others from contacting her asking her and her staff to subsidise a "celeb"'s birthday party.

And Cat's response was shit. Maybe she should be spending some of her saved cash on a PR person rather than party planners.

And who the fuck has a "Camp as Tits" theme for a 40th birthday party??? Why are tits camp?

No I wouldn't work for free, but neither would I be splashing my refusal over social media.

lapisamethyst · 02/08/2023 10:53

The right thing to do would have been to use the local bakery, pay them AND promote them.
Three Little Birds Bakery, if you're reading this thread I honour you. What a great response.

Kazzyhoward · 02/08/2023 10:56

I really hate rich people sponging off the poorer ones. Everyone whinges about the likes of Amazon etc doing it, but it happens far more often closer to home with all the "slebs" wanting freebies even though they'll almost certainly have more money and a much better lifestyle than the people they're trying to sponge off. I really hate these entitled people.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 02/08/2023 09:51

There’s a lot of stuff in her instagram that is “#gifted”.

Yeah, I'd bet my life savings that she knew they were asking for free cake. She'd have to declare it #gifted when posting the Instagram photos they promised the baker.

Comefromaway · 02/08/2023 11:01

No I wouldn't work for free, but neither would I be splashing my refusal over social media.

I have lots of family & friends who work in industries where they are often expected to work for "exposure".

They all call it out because they feel that by doing so it sends a message to youngsters breaking into the industry & those taking the piss that this is not acceptable.

Daisypod · 02/08/2023 11:03

As an aside I can't stand when companies give themselves a name without the vowels to look clever and cool. Your a company not an Only Connect round 🙄

IOweMySanityToBasilParsley · 02/08/2023 11:05

"Camp as tits" can get in the bin 🤮 Also CT has made herself look a massive bellend here

ArcaneWireless · 02/08/2023 11:06

The response for me was less about ‘I knew nuffink’ and more about being a sarky, contemptuous twat.

A dignified silence would have served them better.

#gifted = #atit

(space it as you please)

TheaBrandt · 02/08/2023 11:07

Live by the sword die by the sword really. If you want to blag free stuff by using your supposed influence on SM that can then be turned back on you on a negative way…

BeaumontLivingston · 02/08/2023 11:07

It seems like an inexperienced planner trying to make their mark and go 'look what I got for so little and I'm behind the blow up of this small business' but it's backfired, CT will sack her and her name is mud.

Feel bad for her. Obviously it's cheeky but she probably read online as a clever way to get stuff and be innovative by offering publicity. She was going to build some cool relationships and be all proud of herself.

Probably young. the bakery could have just declined and asked for payment in full instead?

brokenlore · 02/08/2023 11:09

She's one angry lady! Her insta reply really says it all. I think she's just killed off her career...oops!

sorry wrong thread

FuppingEll · 02/08/2023 11:11

I have a small business and I am asked all the time for free product in exchange for an Instagram post or whatever, moat of the time by people with far less followers than me. I just ignore the requests. This won't be the cake shops first time getting that request either, I bet they usually just ignore but saw the opportunity for a bit of exposure so went with it.

I will say though that instagram/influencer marketing works if it is the right person/right product. Someone with a very loyal following bought one of my products, I had never heard of the before the first I knew of them was when I started getting lots of orders all of a sudden and tracked down where they came from. I have also helped a friend out in the past and posted about their shop, that resulted in a very noticeable uptick in sales for them.

It can and does work, you are not obliged to take part it it, I don't, but I don't think it is a massive sin for someone to ask and let the business owner decide for themselves.

ImNotReallySpartacus · 02/08/2023 11:22

I had not heard of Catherine Tyldesley but I think approaching strangers to ask for free stuff is extremely crass, unless you are a charity.

Truemilk · 02/08/2023 11:25

Kakibob1924 · 02/08/2023 09:41

She certainly hasn’t and what with all the scratching!!!

Looks like she's fidgeting because she's not telling the full truth

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 02/08/2023 11:30

No I wouldn't work for free, but neither would I be splashing my refusal over social media.

I do wonder why people and companies are supposed to roll over and take rude entitled and exploitative behaviour from X list slebs without calling it out. Is it the magic word 'celebrity' and they're supposed to be grateful for the notice?

Good for the bakery. Decent PR for them and they didn't have to pay for it, either.

PurpleButterflyWings · 02/08/2023 11:36

She HAS got a nerve tbh. I did laugh at Rebecca's response - from the company. Brilliant. Grin

Catherine has spoken out, and has virtually said she cannot believe that her PR company would do this, and even goes on to say 'I hope this bakery is happy now it's got the publicity it clearly craved!' What a cheeky cow! 😆

If it HAS got good publicity, then that's brilliant! But they did NOT bring it on themselves! The cheeky fuckers demanding free cakes gave it to them.

As someone who knows some people who work in media, performing arts, photography, art, childminding, and dressmaking, and suchlike, I can confirm (like many of you guys probably can) that SOME people expect freebies in return for 'exposure...' Absolute fucking cheek, and almost always exclusively aimed at careers and jobs that women typically do.

Here Catherine 'speaks out' and has a pop at the bakery, and says 'I hope they are enjoying their free exposure they craved; while I've got journalists knocking on mah door while mah kids are playing.... Nice that.' Hmm The fucking cheek of her! SHE started this. SHE is the 'celebrity' SHE can take the journalists knocking on her door...

Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley speaks out after Yorkshire bakery refuses to make free birthday cakes

Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley said she had “no idea” that a PR firm had asked a Yorkshire bakery to provide her with free cakes.

GiddyGladys · 02/08/2023 11:37

I've never heard of her and didn't really have an opinion until I've seen her reply. She seems so nasty and just spiteful. What a horrid woman.

Beefcurtains79 · 02/08/2023 11:38

She hastily did a ‘ask me anything’ on Instagram a day or so ago, when people on Tattle/Twitter worked out it was her. One of the questions was, (from a coincidentally newly created account) was ‘what are you doing for your 40th?’. She replied that she was ‘off for a city break!’ No other plans apparently.
Yet today she has admitted she was indeed having a party along! She’s quite the Billy Bullshitter isn’t she.

Yes her response is awful. Really awful. So completely misjudged. Up until I had no idea who she was and now I know it’s not in a positive light. I wonder how many others think the same. So now more people know who CT is but don’t view her kindly. It’s a really stupid thing to do.

ArcaneWireless · 02/08/2023 11:40

I’m still chinny-reckoning the fact that the actual birthday person gets an afterthought cake instead of the sparkly flamingo showstopper.

That seems a bit shit.

Flopsythebunny · 02/08/2023 11:41

As the owner of a small business, my inbox is always full of messages from so called influencers wanting freebies in exchange for promotion. We get sick to death of it. I some even threaten with poor reviews on if we refuse

Actual birthday person isn't the celeb here. I mean, come on. It's a privilege to be married to a celeb and that has to be paid for. In this case by having a smaller cake. Or not having a smaller cake, as it turns out.

She is the celeb tho. She was in Corrie for years.
