The real housewives of Cheshire do this sll the time. The Beckham do it. All those rich influences get sent things for free all the time to plug, they're loaded and could easily afford it, that's life, its shit but its been happening for years, the only thing is, the people on the other end of it never speak out unlike this cake Baker who I tip my hat off to.

GenieGenealogy · 02/08/2023 12:17

I love in her Insta video how she bleats on about the PR company being "misrepresented" when their words are there in black and white for anyone to see. Not sure she really knows what misrepresented means, mind you.

Tidsleytiddy · 02/08/2023 12:19

Utter cheeky fuckery. The actress isn’t even well-known! I don’t know who these people think they are. Good for the small business owner. Glad she said what she did

LadyTwinkle · 02/08/2023 12:20

How can that email have possibly been misconstrued? They very clearly wanted free cakes in exchange for exposure. The response from NVRLND is frankly laughable and nonsensical. How can anyone claim to work for expenses only? How can you make a living and afford a even a basic existence working like that? And now Catherine Tyldesley claims OK magazine isn't even doing a piece about her birthday. So that was an out right lie then. The bakery were never going to get credited in Ok Magazine. Not to mention what a piece of work Catherine Tyldesley is for making her husband's birthday all about her. And making a video shaming the bakery for their behaviour.

The photographer who covered Harry and Meghan’s wedding and Archie’s baptism didn’t get paid and he had to hand over copyright to the Sussexes.
The royals really are cf’s.

That's simply untrue.

Post-wedding calculations suggest they paid £17k for photography and videography for that day alone.

It's also common for the couple to pay to retain the copyright - I own the copyright to my wedding photos too!

These are my thoughts

I do not see the problem with asking, exposure does increase business

It's fine for her to say no

Its unprofessional to post it all over social media IMO

The celebrity lady, who incidentally I don't know of as I don't watch coronation street, will probably have a lot of unkind comments made about her and it must be horrible to have the Daily Fail stirring the pot. This is real person with a family.

Posting her response is unnecessary but I get the argument that she may have wanted to put off potential influencers doing this in the future. But I can’t work out how NVRMND and the celeb name got leaked? Surely it was the bakery? That’s the bit I think is crossing a line. Plus she’s written she used to be a journalist….

SkylarSpirit · 02/08/2023 12:35

FFS can the Harry and Meghan haters stop trying to shoehorn them into every single thread? It's so weird and obsessive.

Comefromaway · 02/08/2023 12:37

A different bakery that they also approached leaked the name.

Her birthday was 2 weeks later I think? And she still made her husband's birthday all about her....

It's her 40th in Sept. She should come on MN and do a '40th Birthday Dissapointment' [sic] thread. The wrong island, jewels and car saga will become a tragic tale of the wrong cake(s) and assorted cake troubles.

Tryingmuchharder · 02/08/2023 12:47

Lots of social media influencers and celebs are grifters and want something of nothing (or a mention on their IG, twitter, Fb or whatever platform they use) they basically live online, share every moment that they do anything and then grasp any freebies from any business for a mention. Freebie merchants.

Great until they approach people who actually do things for a living rather than talk about things and have to earn a living doing and selling etc. The talented cake lady is correct and well done to her - giving up a couple of days work for a greedy person who should be able to pay for her talented services rather than exchange for a few clicks on SM.

The day people stop following 'influencers' and do their own thing is a day that these parasites stop 'influencing'.

I disagree. They ask lots of hardworking people for freebies. They take pictures and share them in exchange for someone's talented grafting. They are grifters and chancers. They ask lots of businesses for freebies and then share bits and bobs with no comeback on them.

Well done to the baker - she didn't give her brilliant cakes away to a chancer. Pay for someone else's talents. It also shows that they ask a lot of people. The 'look at me/me/me' lot can go cry on whatever social media they use - they will still milk the no cannot do a freebie response anyway

Catherine Tildsley is that you 😂

Medusaismyhero · 02/08/2023 12:52

My jaw was on the floor watching that Instagram video response. Never heard of the sleb before this hoo-ha but she seems like an insincere twat. I'd put money on the video being down before I have my 3pm cream bun...

The baker can decide their own professional standards, IMO. Her professional standards are producing baked goods to a high standard, at a price that sells and that fulfil the customers' wishes.

Not indulging grifters.

The baker is a real person with a real mortgage who needs to earn payment in exchange for work to live.

Cloud cuckoo land celebs want everything free and this baker said NO - well done to the baker. A little ta for the cake amongst all the masses of crappy tweets and shares these shallow vacuous influencers celebs put out would be lost.

The celeb actress will quickly move on to asking someone ask for something free in exchange for her huge number of followers (dopes without their own lives) to salivate over anyway.

Strange how it's not seen by the silly followers of these dopy influencers celebs or whatever they call themselves to 'post all over social media' they literally live their every waking moment on it.

Missing the point but what sort of theme is 'camp as tits'? What does a camp cake look like?

I think the clue is probably in the second part of the comparison

Tryingmuchharder · 02/08/2023 13:05

The bakers response was brilliant:

"And in posting her pithy response to social media, she has won herself a new army of fans.
Replying to Leeds-based party planners NVRLND, Ms Severs confirmed she had availability but jokingly said: ‘I’m so sorry to hear that your client has fallen on such hard times they can’t afford to pay small businesses their products.
‘Unfortunately as my mortgage provider doesn’t take payment “in the form of promotion on their socials”, and my staff can’t feed their kids with exposure on Instagram, I’ll have to decline your very generous offer.’
The bakery’s Facebook page last night said: ‘Hi to all our new followers. We deal in delicious cakes and a generous side of sarcasm when necessary.
‘We are getting a massive amount of phone calls, emails and messages as a result of the media coverage of the news story that is us refusing to work for heart emojis.
‘We are blown away by all your support and so happy to see that so many other people agree that small business shouldn’t be taken advantage of!’ "

Even if you did watch Corrie, you might have forgotten all about her.

She played Eva Price, who was written out in the summer of 2018

BBno4 · 02/08/2023 13:20

But if the cake lady said yes she wouldn't have been featured in OK magazine like she was promised sooo...
Its not OK. Not only is it crass but its a blatent lie.

excelledyourself · 02/08/2023 13:21

The baker's post was absolute gold, and didn't name anyone.

CT singling her out like that has only shown herself up.

And how can she deny working with OK, then call the PR company amazing? They said you will be working with OK, so who is lying? Hardly amazing if they lied.

I bet the cake for the husband was only thrown in because his mum would be there and know it was his birthday, otherwise the guy was getting completely forgotten on his actual birthday.

And as for 'Camp as Tits'... I wouldn't make a cake for that even if she did pay me.

PlacidPenelope · 02/08/2023 13:21

I wonder if those performers CT referenced in her video were paid?

Would CT have agreed to do Strictly Come Dancing if the BBC had said we won't pay you but will promote you on our socials?

Does CT expect to be paid when utilising her skills? I bet she does, so why would she expect not to pay someone else using their skills?

As for the oh you'll get loads of business/orders, yeah right and if the business didn't, what then? Out of pocket for nothing. Plus no doubt the celebrities at the bash who may use the Baker's services would also want it for free, they expect the plebs who follow them and may use the business to pay though.

The brass neck of these celebrities and 'influencers'.
