Stupid miserable British weather.

I heard it's something to do with the heatwave in Europe causing all the rain here

SpeckledlyHen · 22/07/2023 09:12

I have to say I’m really enjoying this summer so far. Much nicer temperatures at low 20’s than the mid 30’s we had last year. I found that unbearable.

But it never stops raining. Cooler would be ok, but it’s just relentless fucking rain.

Haven’t had any washing out in weeks.

IfYouDontAsk · 22/07/2023 09:13

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

UnravellingTheWorld · 22/07/2023 09:13

I was thinking this morning that some breastfeeding mum has been praying for cooler weather!

Purrfecto · 22/07/2023 09:13

I’m loving it too, so much better than last year. Think we’re on the opposite side of the jet stream to rest of Europe, thankfully.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/07/2023 09:15

I prefer the cooler but still pleasant temperatures but yeah the rain is horrible and feels endless.

Vickythevan63 · 22/07/2023 09:16

Yep, It’s the location of the jetstream in Northern France.

Below it is the high pressure, causing the heatwave, above it is the low pressure, causing weather like ours.

It needs the jet stream to move northwards!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 22/07/2023 09:16

It’s shit isn’t it?

I want scorchio!!!

LittleBearPad · 22/07/2023 09:16

It is lovely. I think you’re exaggerating about the rain. It’s hardly never ending.

Jmaho · 22/07/2023 09:16

@TiredArse yes it's things like not being able to dry washing. It's grim. I'm having to wash at night and use the tumble dryer which i hate doing at this time of year
Don't get me started on trying to entertain the kids without being able to go out
It's not just a small shower it's pissing it down all day long. My husband and son have just taken the dog for a walk and now have loads more washing to do

TeriblePerson · 22/07/2023 09:17

The rain is heavy today and it's just not pleasant. I understand preferring cooler temperatures. It's not ideal for going outdoors in summer hols and on weekends though.

Ah.. we haven’t had much. We had a bad day last Saturday and it’s not rained since. I’m south, about 30 mins from Bournemouth.

TeriblePerson · 22/07/2023 09:18

Loving the scientific explanations about weather systems 😄

It’s so miserable and has been going on for weeks without a break. The only tiny positive is I haven’t watered my garden for ages but I actually enjoy standing out on a warm summer evening watering, so I would much prefer hot sunshine please!

Maybe we're not all living in the same place?

The rain is pretty relentless where I am.

twentyonepoundnote · 22/07/2023 09:18

I love this weather, I think we are so lucky this year,- I pray it stays this way for many years to come.

ILostMyself · 22/07/2023 09:19

I’m absolutely loving it but the rain doesn’t really bother me. Prefer feeling fresher to what we had last year.

Followwill · 22/07/2023 09:20

I agree with the comments about the rain. I don't mind it being cool or even cold. But the lashing down raining sideways monsoons can fuck right off! I was hoping for a cheap summer with days out for the kids but looks like I'll be booking lots of expensive indoor activities now. Urgh.

Fantina · 22/07/2023 09:21

I haven’t even taken the winter duvets off the beds this year

Theunamedcat · 22/07/2023 09:21

The rain has been relentless where I live I actually had to use the tumble dryer the other day

Florissante · 22/07/2023 09:22

There's been little rain where I am. And I prefer this weather to last year's heat.

pictoosh · 22/07/2023 09:22

It's nothing to do with the jet stream...we just happen to be on the wrong side of it. There's an area of low pressure circulating above us. It's been there for three weeks and by all accounts is fixing to stay for another three weeks.

I'm in Scotland so we broke up at the end of June. It has been a showery shit show this year. I've been very disappointed by the weather.

slavetothekittens · 22/07/2023 09:22

North West here and rain has been relentless. Had a dry day on Thursday then back to rain, rain and more rain. Too wet to sort the garden out, too wet to go anywhere. Just hoping summer decided to come back soon.
