I heard it's the aliens 👽

I heard the clouds are to blame!!

it's been 'ok' here (SE England) may/June were lovely & I made the most of them. It has been dry enough, without being too hot, in July. Had plenty of sunny days.

i love hot weather when I go away on holiday, but prefer this weather when I'm home. Last year was too hot (for me) to get anything done.

im sorry for anyone who has had constant rain though. Difficult to amuse the kids in the holidays.

It’s fucking miserable isn’t it? We don’t even have temperatures in the low twenties here - it’s to be maximum 15 here with drizzle. Global warming has not reached Edinburgh.

But climate change certainly has. Poor Auld Reekie.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/07/2023 10:21

We had an amazing June but July has been a complete washout. Of course the weather is not the same all over the country so I never get when poster say they don’t understand because the weather is lovely. Not everywhere it’s not!

It’s the fact that you can’t plan anything. We have a village gala next week that takes all year to plan, the weather forecast was sunshine until yesterday when it turned to rain. So much of the day relies on good weather 😭.

Due to the stupid cost of living crisis we can’t afford to do anything indoors as it all costs money so it’s outdoors or sitting at home doing nothing.

Has anyone actually found rain appropriate summer shoes for everyday wear?!

I get to this point every summer and wonder why I still haven't found the right shoes yet! Every bloody year😂

Gingerlygreen · 22/07/2023 10:22

I'm in Staffordshire and it's been a mix of sunshine and showers, I've managed to get my washing dry outside a couple of times a week so it's been OK.
The garden is looking great though, very green and the flowers are thriving with the warm temperatures and rain.

I hate it any hotter than 25° but do like the blue skies, I get noticeably miserable when it's grey and cloudy even if it's dry.

It’s shit isn’t it?

I want scorchio!!!

Me too.

But you can’t expect EU weather when you leave the EU.

Maireas · 22/07/2023 10:23

Difficult with young kids, isn't it? The trouble is, that climate change has meant more moisture in the atmosphere - there are going to be more heavy rainfalls and storms as well as heatwaves.

liveforsummer · 22/07/2023 10:23

queenrollo · 22/07/2023 10:20

The rain has been daily where I am too, and this is problematic because I'm surrounded by farmland ready to be harvested - except they can't bring it in because of the wet. Even when it stops raining they have to wait for the moisture content to be right before can they send the combine in. Doesn't bode well for the grain or rapeseed crop which is going to further affect food prices.
Lots of other food crops - potatoes and brassicas. They will rot in the fields if this carries on too much longer.
Even in my own veg patch it's affected my garlic and onions.

I personally like warmer temps, but I would take cooler temps with less rain ideally.

Yes I'm worried about next years hay as that needs to be cut dried and bales all without rain and the grass is growing wild which is causing extra work restricting the horses grazing. Not just a pain for days out

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

Yep, that seems to be the new normal pattern.

Glitterbaby17 · 22/07/2023 10:24

Is miserable, cold not sunny, raining, need a jumper. Am gutted - we were in Cornwall for a long weekend during the heatwave last year and was so nice foolishly planned our summer holiday there this week and forecast js grim 18 degrees, rain, not summer weather at all. I feel like summers already over and kids only broke up yesterday

Xenia · 22/07/2023 10:25

I am really loving it. Grass is green. Warm outside but not too sunny, easy to work from home and do work in the garden without feeling boiling hot. I am not on holiday holiday. If I were it would be different.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/07/2023 10:26

NE Scotland here and it’s been 15/16 and rain all week. My DP is in Manchester at his annual lads’ weekend at the cricket, and just WA me to say he is going to come home today instead of tomorrow because of the rain. I sighed inwardly at the thought of the washing (he left on Wednesday) and how to dry it.

In all fairness it was glorious yesterday- for a few hours! 🌞

StillWantingADog · 22/07/2023 10:30

I’m in greater Manchester and it has rained virtually every day in July. This weekends it’s forecast to rain continually for 48h at least. Is grim.

jet stream is much further south than it should be. If it was in its normal place we’d be exposed to the heatwave so I suppose that’s good news generally but not for the holiday season

CoffeeLover90 · 22/07/2023 10:33

Have to agree, don't mind it being cooler but the bloody rain... summer holidays looking to be shit. Very little indoor attractions round here. DS will be stir crazy by September

Sausagenbacon · 22/07/2023 10:33

We've had 2 weeks in Wales and we've had 3 very wet days but the rest have been very nice

SockGoddess · 22/07/2023 10:35

I’m in scotland too. I don’t mind rain and I know we need it (my gardening-obsessed neighbours are delighted) but I’d like a few hot sunny days to go to the beach or camping.

I do like a downpour though. It’s nice to out on the balcony (covered) with a coffee in a thunderstorm.

I love this weather, I think we are so lucky this year,- I pray it stays this way for many years to come.

The crops are ready to be harvested but the weather means they can't. You going to be do happy when the price of food goes up even more?

liveforsummer · 22/07/2023 10:36

IfYouDontAsk · 22/07/2023 09:13

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

Thats definitely usually true in Scotland although last few years July has been nice too, but this year we haven't even had that. May was shit. June we had about a week and a half of really nice weather although we got stuck with the east coast wind so didn't get the temps most others got. That all that ended abruptly thought with the last week of term.

That's problematic. Any strategy to deal with that, or does everything rot?

Glemanam · 22/07/2023 10:39

Why the fook are we not allowed to be pissed about constant rain and cold in July? (and yes it has been in the Midlands, the grass is about a foot long). It doesn't mean we want a 40 degree heatwave. There is an inbetween.

I have a disabled DD and winter goes on for-bloody-ever for us as its so hard to get her out in bad weather.

Wanting a bit of settled warm weather that isn't constant cold rain or 35 bloody degree heatwave isn't unreasonable. So yes, I'm fecked off as we're sat under a blanket watching rain for 14th consecutive day in bloody July.

ThePoshUns · 22/07/2023 10:39

' Me too.

ROFL

Iolani · 22/07/2023 10:40

Southeast here and we’ve had some rain but really very little.
We were in West Wales the last few days and had more. Thursday morning was torrential for a couple of hours and then the sun came out it was lovely and fresh.
Im enjoying the weather, more rain for the plants and veg growing aswel.

PrinnyPree · 22/07/2023 10:40

I agree its a pain expecially with a 3 year old (although he loves puddles and couldn't care less I just have to tolerate it!)

However I hate sleeping in a heat wave and when its 35 degrees during the day it can get really miserable so I'm glad we aren't getting it like mainland Europe.

Global warming is starting to get extremely worrying, seeing the figures of this year on BBCs front page and how the heating is accelerating is really worrying and I feel the entire world is shoving its head in the sand.
