Thanks for the new thread. Shame it's needed.

MissConductUS · 06/06/2023 13:19

I suspect this thread is going to be a corker.

TokyoSushi · 06/06/2023 13:20

Thanks very much @MagicFox

@TheABC what on earth did you say to get the MN team on you? :-)

TheABC · 06/06/2023 13:56

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar
I think I mentioned W@r Cr!mes and called the Russian Forces a naughty word. I was also reposting a Twitter thread, looking at the way Russian propaganda changed as the scale of the damn disaster unfolded.

katem98 · 06/06/2023 14:00

Thanks @MagicFox. Still here, lurking! Another opportunity to thank the regular posters on this thread. I read it daily and fully appreciate the analysis/ updates from all of you and your family members/ friends 🥰

mids2019 · 06/06/2023 14:00

So the dam...was this a military decision to hinder tossing the river or simply spiteful terrorism from a n increasingly desperate Russian army? Should sanctions on Russia be extended for this act which directly effects tens of thousands of civilians? Is blowing up a fan some sort of 'red line' that may increase NATO support?

TheABC · 06/06/2023 14:15

@mids2019 , if there isn't a red line; there really should be.

This will cause worldwide problems with grain availability, not to mention the landmines being scattered by the flood waters.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 06/06/2023 14:25

I agree, NATO need to show that actions have consequences.
No one wants escalation but how long can we worry about 'poking the bear' when Putin seems intend on death, destruction and a scorched earth policy if Russia can't have what it wants.

Agreed. And with @DesdamonasHandkerchief

Exactly what I’m thinking.

A full on Comical Ali moment going on here.

"The water is not having an effect in Nova Kakhovka"

Hmmm, you might want to look out the window behind you mate.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 06/06/2023 16:40

There are (unconfirmed) reports that the Russian army are not letting people evacuate in occupied settlements. The roads have been closed off.

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2023 16:50

Long time lurker showing my support, thanks for the threads.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 06/06/2023 17:09

Thanks for the thread, and to all decent contributors. Still silently following....!

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2023 17:24

This video is recorded nearly 100 kilometers from the dam, 150 tonnes of engine oil now in the river and maybe another 300 tonnes to come.

Right now I am in the center of Kherson. Water arrives very quickly, and the air smells of oil. We will feel the consequences of this disaster for decades to come. Russia is a terrorist state!

borntobequiet · 06/06/2023 17:51

Thanks once again all.
Just listened to an interesting interview (5 min ago, so 15:45 ish if listening on catch up) with Gen. David Petraeus on the PM programme on various issues including the Ukrainian offensive.

strawberriesarenot · 06/06/2023 18:18

I'm not a contributor, but I have followed from the 1st thread for information. I hope that's ok.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 06/06/2023 18:28

Yes of course @strawberriesarenot It's what the thread is here for!

For me, the reason I do the daily info roundup from Telegram is for people who can't access it and perhaps don't want to say anything, but find it useful.

You know what, I don’t think even when Ukraine wins, all of us are going to disappear. I think maybe the thread will go on post victory. I feel like a lot of us formed camaraderie here with the like-minded individuals and we can continue the chats post war.
