No eggs on pancake day!!

Just been to Tesco before work and there are literally NO eggs..... not even the really expensive ones they do.......

I am now going to make DH go to every single shop until he finds some, as the day cannot end until we've had pancakes!

I think most people would have gotten their eggs earlier this year due to the huge shortages. I'm surprised you've only just realised that getting hold of eggs might be a problem. Your best bet in my experience is to try local small corner shops.

Persipan · 21/02/2023 07:11

Gently, eggs have been in short supply for months now and pancake day is a very predictable point of high demand for them, so waiting until the day to get eggs in was a recipe for exactly this situation.

TolkiensFallow · 21/02/2023 07:13

Go to a farm or a butcher

BlueBlueCowWondering · 21/02/2023 07:14

Make vegan pancakes? Plenty of recipes online

BooksAndHooks · 21/02/2023 07:14

Failing that get the shaker jars of pancake mix you add water to.

Lamelie · 21/02/2023 07:17

You can make them without eggs. Google vegan pancakes or add a tsp of baking powder.

MooBaby · 21/02/2023 07:17

You left it a bit last minute so I don't think it's fair to complain about this.

See if there's any of that ready made mix about.

I couldn't actually afford to get any till today, but thanks for being such a nice person about it!

You can make them without eggs.

	220g of plain flour
680ml of almond milk, maybe more to loosen
	1/2 tsp <a class="break-all" href="https://www.greatbritishchefs.com/collections/salt-recipes" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">salt</a>
5 tbsp of vegetable oil, (or other neutral-flavoured oil)

Obviously use normal milk if you aren't vegan.

Finances meant I couldn't afford them until today.

I love the ready made ones which you just put in the microwave for 30 seconds - gorgeous!

And? Doesn't mean they will be in supply today? It was predictable. Do you expect the shop to keep some in reserve for people who get paid on the 21st of the month?

CeriB82 · 21/02/2023 07:19

Is there a local farm you can buy them?

much nicer than shop bough eggs.

CeriB82 · 21/02/2023 07:20

Below the belt @MooBaby

HangingOver · 21/02/2023 07:20

Vegan pancakes work fine... I make them with oat milk and the water out of acan of chickpeas. They don't taste of chickpeas at all.

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 07:20

I'm having my Asda delivered today. I've ordered eggs for the same reason. Odds of me receiving eggs???

Plus there were no tomatoes in stock. Non whatsoever!!!

TrianglePlayer · 21/02/2023 07:21

We’ve inadvertently got about 25 in our fridge. I order them every week but they’ve backed up without me realising. It’s kind of risky leaving it until the actual day. Like trying to find an advent calendar on 1 December 🤔

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 07:21

@MooBaby How rude

Sorry, I didn’t see this before I posted.

Awk shut up

HangingOver · 21/02/2023 07:22

@MooBaby who pissed on your chips. What a thing to say to someone who can't afford eggs!

crazeecatladee · 21/02/2023 07:22

@Parker231 yes - but this P says money is tight. Premade batter is not cheap! premade pancakes even more costly

AdaColeman · 21/02/2023 07:22

Get one of the bottles of pancake mix that you just add water to, nice and easy!

GGMTJ · 21/02/2023 07:24

Some daft replies here. Of course OP isn’t unreasonable to think that shops might have eggs in stock, like they do every other day and have done on Shrove Tuesday every other year. I think people just like saying mean things.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/02/2023 07:24

Why are people buying things for pancake day? The very point of the day is to use things up, not buy stuff you don't have Confused

As others have said, just make eggless pancakes, or have them another day when you can get some eggs.

I bought some in M&S on Sunday - their 15 mixed eggs for £2.50 are probably some of the cheapest supermarket free range eggs available.
