It’s here and I like it.

It reminds me a lot of the Polish grandpa ad from a few years ago. m.youtube.com/watch?v=tU5Rnd-HM6A

Virtue signalling??

I loved it 🥰

Highfivemum · 10/11/2022 16:44

Thought it a nice advert which a thoughtful message. Hated the music though

LondonWolf · 10/11/2022 16:54

MN so often reminds me of teenagers who are just Too Cool to ever show excitement or enthusiasm about anything. Always have to find something to criticise.

LouLou198 · 10/11/2022 16:54

Love it! First time I have seen it and I appear to have something in my eye!!

Yes! That's spot on 😆

BadNomad · 10/11/2022 17:00

I'm getting massive red flags from him.

SuperCamp · 10/11/2022 17:19

If I was a child from Care, I might baulk at a man whose knuckles were covered in plasters and grazes....

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/11/2022 17:24

I love it! Not a shmaltz fab though so 🤷

Ted27 · 10/11/2022 17:35

Is no one shocked or surprised by the statistic at the end?

Ted27 · 10/11/2022 17:48

@SuperCamp
if you look properly his knuckles arent covered in plasters, he has strapping on his wrist,

@BadNomad
what red flags would those be?

WordtoYoMumma · 10/11/2022 17:50

No, but then you and I inhabit the same world!

Ted27 · 10/11/2022 17:53

@EmmatheStageRat

indeed we do

AutisticLegoLover · 10/11/2022 17:56

It's pants.

AutisticLegoLover · 10/11/2022 18:02

They have wrecked the song.
You can't add a Christmas tree and call it Christmassy. It's too try hard on every level. I've been crying over everything lately and it's not brought a tear to my eye. Poor show, John Lewis, poor show.

notprincehamlet · 10/11/2022 18:03

Very sweet and a strong message - but this is JL's money-making quarter and there's no ad-related merchandise and the ad doesn't make me want to spend money I don't have on shit I don't need

There IS merchandise. JL has joined forces with a social enterprise bag company called Madlug which funds non-branded, no-stigma bags for children in care who quite often have to move on, through absolutely no fault of their own. All to often, children in care have to move homes with their precious belongings stuffed in bin bags or supermarket carriers. JL is donating a bag to a child in care for every Madlug bag it sells this Christmas. The aim is to give dignity to as many of the 108,000 UK children currently in the care system.

Darcy101 · 10/11/2022 18:15

In Waitrose today, you just take a star with the amount you’d like to donate and take it to the till

There is merchandise. A teddy, pyjamas and the skateboard, plus some other stuff.

the80sweregreat · 10/11/2022 18:23

The original song is quite punky, so it took me a while to cotton on as to what it was slowed down

topcat2014 · 10/11/2022 18:31

My adoption placement broke down after a couple of months so that was a tough watch..

I remember trying to learn about football in advance of the little man arriving..

JL ruin good songs every year!
To be honest I don't see the point of any of the Xmas ads... does watching them make any of you want to go to that particular store? They cost so much money to make too. Stores could use the money to reduce prices at Xmas and help everyone!

Actually the Tesco one says feed a family of five a Christmas lunch for £25. I think that’s the job of a supermarket - advertise food.
M&S does “ lovely” food, no mention of price but at least you know what their offer is.

I dislike the JL one ( although I can see why it might resonate with people who foster) It’s all a bit Dickens…. the poor have no Christmas…for my tastes. Great the rest of the year but a cashing in at Christmas is a bit smug .

Bostock82 · 10/11/2022 18:38

Its the worst they’ve produced. Absolutely awful.

best was Edgar. It makes me smile.

Pinkittens · 10/11/2022 18:42

I loved Mog's Christmas Calamity for Sainsbury's.

Ted27 · 10/11/2022 18:43

@lightisnotwhite

John Lewis have entered into a long term commitment to support care leavers into employment and to achieve better outcomes.

Young people who have been in the care system need a lot of support when they leave care, they need more support programmes like this, then fewer of them will end up long term unemployed, on the street or in prison
I heard from a wonderful young woman this week who has been through my organisations care leaver scheme - she is on her way to a fabulous future
