It’s here and I like it.

It reminds me a lot of the Polish grandpa ad from a few years ago. m.youtube.com/watch?v=tU5Rnd-HM6A

Round my way a million middle aged men are getting back into skating - I thought it was JL picking up on that trend until the end.

It sounded like The Divine Comedy frontman singing? It’s like they mashed together two of my best nostalgic things and made a travesty. (I hate the JL music every year though so this is on brand for me)

recommend the programme Trying on apple
TV for anyone moved by this ad.

No, lots of advertising is about 'remember our brand' or 'identify with our brand'.

So you remember to use us when you buy your new things

Loved it! Realised on the second watch the guy is learning to skate to find common ground with the child. Thought it was in the spirit of the season. Liked the croon version of Blink 182 too!

Yeah didn't like it the first time because I didn't get it but on a second watch it's lovely!

The new one is ok, my favourite is the boxer dog racing to get on the trampoline before the kid on Christmas morning after seeing the foxes and the badger on it during the night.

Freespirit42 · 10/11/2022 09:19

I liked it I don’t see how some don’t get it. Are people so far removed from stuff it was nice of him to learn how to skate to make the child feel like they have something in common a lot of effort he did yes it’s nice

MightyAtlantic · 10/11/2022 09:26

I like the song and appreciate the message but overall I don't think it's a great ad. They've done far better.

Schmeeeee · 10/11/2022 09:31

Nope, sorry but I don't love it as a Christmas advert. It's boring. The message is good and I appreciate that they're not flogging more Christmas tat like they have done in previous years. But it's not a Christmas advert for me. Best one so far this year is ASDA.

Aw I thought it was really sweet!! What a lovely dad. Although I did think it was Johnny vegas at the start.

vjg13 · 10/11/2022 09:37

I thought it was Chris Boardman! And then was going to be about cycling!

Blocked · 10/11/2022 09:37

I can't believe they didn't make it about the Queen though. I totally expected them to remake the 'always a woman' advert with images of HMQ.

That ad was most likely made in about March.

Fucking hell, I mean everyone sees things differently but calling this 'virtue signalling' just shows all that is wrong - anything positive is dismissed by deadhearted cynics until all there is left in the world is total depression.

I think it’s the other way round. The dead hearted cynics see through the depression in the world. They don’t need overpaid ad companies coming up with strategic tearjerkers to feel Christmasy.

I liked it anyway, I thought it was good to have an ad that focused on something you can do for someone rather than something you can buy for someone.

Agree. Great ad. Very refreshing

Thanks for reminding me if the Polish Grandad one, nice to rewatch as it reminds me of my dear departed Polish Grandad ❤

Spoodee · 10/11/2022 09:46

It sounds like Puddles the clown singing. I like the song.

The first JL advert I've liked in ages!
Love the Polish grandpa too ❤

Ljavery · 10/11/2022 10:00

On second viewing I really like the music.

Currently listening to a JL exec saying that it's not an ad. It's about the power of kindness. It's not about consumption. But without consumption JL doesn't have a business. She's talking about their purpose. Sorry, but their purpose is to sell stuff and if they are successful at that then they provide jobs and income to people who need them. We don't need a kindness campaign from them. We can think for ourselves. They should be honest and say that it's an ad designed to make people think positively about JL and therefore spend money there.

Justbetweenus · 10/11/2022 10:05

Agree completely. On the app it links to information about the work JLP does to help children who have been in care and you can donate to charities that support those efforts. Couldn’t be more of a Christmas message.

Justbetweenus · 10/11/2022 10:07

Oh dear - that was meant to quote an early positive post. I really like it anyway!

wonderstuff · 10/11/2022 10:09

I cried, absolutely love it. About giving at Christmas, which is absolutely what it should be all about.

Saddogmum73 · 10/11/2022 10:15

I think it’s shite. I used to love the JL Christmas adverts but the last few years they’ve been awful.

I get the messaging but it’s not really very Christmassy and they could do that sort of advert at any point in the year.
