It is unwise to name names until formally announced . It could prejudice the case.

ClaudineClare · 17/05/2022 21:59

Lots of people on Twitter will be deleting their tweets right now...

Surely no one thought that it would be possible to announce that an MP had been arrested and for the name to not be widely known in fairly short order?

I doubt it. It’s all over Twitter, the genie’s out of the bottle.

I mean the ones who named a completely different Tory MP.

Luculentus · 17/05/2022 22:08

There are six male Tory MPs who fit the parameters described, i.e. they
became members of Parliament in 2001 and are between the ages of 50 and 59.

Boris Johnson
Jonathan Djangoly
Bill Wiggin
Mark Francois
Andrew Rosindell
Richard Bacon

One of those is trending on Twitter, and it isn't in fact Andrew Rosindell. I bet five of them are seriously pissed off (or maybe four, Johnson must know that no-one will seriously believe that it was him, not least because the sudden absence of the PM from Parliament would be a bit bloody obvious).

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 17/05/2022 22:19

Is this the same one who was arrested in 2020, which was dropped by the police? That was also a tory in his 50s but also a former minister.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2022 22:42

No that was a different one.

That sounds so depressing

Ffs, how many are there?

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2022 22:49

54 under investigation (not all tories)

Sadly too true.

I have a disabled son. Once diagnosed it's so hard to access any actual services and dont get me started on the EHCP process

I have a sibling who's been living with a disability since birth. Don't expect it to get any better as they get older.

They are non verbal and at one point the job centre were trying to call them in. Dm was very stressed until I pointed out that all they had to do was get my sibling there, sit them at the desk and then wait far enough away to not be involved in a conversation.
Fortunately the doctor sorted it with a well worded letter that might as well have just asked if they were on glue.

Notonthestairs · 18/05/2022 07:21

Interesting that the Daily Mail is the only newspaper not to reference Tory arrest on the front page.

1 in 10 MPs - not sure why this story isn't getting more traction as the figures are truly shocking.

Luculentus · 18/05/2022 08:56

PIP has gone up by £1.85 a week and DLA by a whopping £0.75.

In the context of 9% inflation announced today, that really is shameful.

newnamethanks · 18/05/2022 09:14

"Not sure why this story not getting more traction" 🤔
Yes, however, when there are more important issues like Keir's beer to be discussed and frothed over by the Tory donor owners of our newspapers, you'll understand there's just not enough room to cover all the news. 54 of them eh? Barely worth a paragraph.

Saucery · 18/05/2022 09:18

I’m just trying to imagine 54 allegations like this in my area’s council.
54 men in public office accused of serious offences. Beggars belief.

MarshaBradyo · 18/05/2022 09:22

partygate too has over ridden it

What does the 54 number relate to?

Not charges to current extent I assume but it is bad, I heard an interesting piece on their workplace lacking HR structure which means men are more unrestricted. I’ve met some very sexist men in my sector, without the threat of HR it would be untenable to deal with.

Maybe not in the press as both Labour and Tories (not sure about Lib Dems etc) are included and they won’t push it to their advantage like either side do with partygate or beergate

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2022 10:38

What does the 54 number relate to?

Dozens of MPs facing allegations of sexual misconduct include three members of Boris Johnson’s cabinet, it was claimed yesterday.

The list of 56 reported under the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) also features two Labour shadow ministers, according to the Sunday Times

Not quite one in ten but certainly heading that way.

Another reason might be women are asked to sign confidentiality agreements

Actually, I should have just said women being silenced

Sexual harassment, discrimination

newnamethanks · 18/05/2022 11:30

I'm sure that's true @DuncinToffee . Do we know whether the 54 are still working in the HoC or are they suspended pending enquiries? I suspect any suspensions would be the other way round ie the accuser but am happy to be corrected.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2022 11:31

Ah well Fabricant finds it all very funny, ffs

No idea, I can't find any information on it.
