Seasalt - why the Mumsnet love?

I'm just not feeling it. I keep seeing mumsnetters raving about Seasalt clothes but I can never see anything remotely stylish on their website. Am I missing something?

No.

OctopusSay · 22/04/2022 12:06

I'm not a fan of their clothes, but their coats are amazing. A warm waterproof coat that does what it's supposed to do is quite literally life changing and although not especially stylish, are I think, more wearable than the more hiking type outdoor brands.

dudsville · 22/04/2022 12:06

Well of course, it's down to personal taste!

I love the 100% cotton fit and flare dresses and the top and skirt combos, and some tops. It's affordable and very reasonable quality.

Actually, I say I don't like their clothes, but I do have one dress I wear for work. It's comfortable, very good quality for the price, has washed well for a long time, is the dress I get most compliments on ....and it has pockets!

BuanoKubiamVej · 22/04/2022 12:09

They go through phases. Some seasons they have dozens of tops I like and I have to choose a small number of the nicest. Some seasons they have only one thing I like, or none at all. Their coats are fab though.

OctopusSay · 22/04/2022 12:09

Plus they do 25% off for teachers

Myself I don't understand the Hush love. Almost everything I see on their website is polyester or has frills down the sleeves, or both. Like this. www.hush-uk.com/alora-frilled-blouse-watercolour-floral-blue/004794-3820.html

I wear a lot of Seasalt clothes, but wouldn’t dream of wearing other brands. It’s down to what you like and personal taste.

For me it’s that they do plus sizes, everything washes well and keeps it’s shape, the leggings are the best I’ve found, natural fibres and lots of tops and tunics have pockets 😁

Yes! I once "treated" myself to an order from Hush. It was all only one step away from rags IMO. The quality was appalling for the price.

I have that top, love it, love Hush! I don't get much from Seasalt though, mainly socks and accessories. Lots of my friends are big fans of their coats though.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 22/04/2022 12:23

I love Seasalt, but usually can't afford it so wait for sales. The quality is decent and they have things in my size. A lot of the things are loose fitting so they cover my lumpy bits. The patterns are pretty and to my taste.

Which just shows that tastes differ. I like the colour of that top but I cant wear polyester; brings me out in a sweaty rash. I don't have much from Seasalt but I like that nearly everything on their website is cotton and there are no frills on sleeves or bloody Peter Pan collars with lace.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/04/2022 12:26

Yeah I was on that other thread. I’d never heard of Seasalt apart from on MN. Everything I’ve seen is not to my taste at all, big flowery prints and horrible shapeless dresses. See also Boden, White stuff, fat face. I really dislike it but everyone’s different!

HeddaGarbled · 22/04/2022 12:27

Their clothes work for women with tummies.

RewildingAmbridge · 22/04/2022 12:29

I started wearing seasalt when they did 50% n blue light discount during lockdown, even on sale items. The dresses are perfect for work (on non court days) and their sandals are amazingly comfortable I've ended up with about six pairs. I also like pockets.

saraclara · 22/04/2022 12:30

I pretty much only wear cotton. I don't like synthetics, and they often make me feel really sweaty. Seasalt cotton is really soft (I have half a dozen of their sailor tops which I basically live in) and easy to wear.
I do wish they'd expand their colour palette though. I have to write off a lot of their tunics and dresses because they look too dingy.

RewildingAmbridge · 22/04/2022 12:33

I'm wearing this today, comfortable, easy to wear and being fairly tall I like that they do longer lengths with tiering or puff sleeves!

WITHOUT

airrrrAIRRRRiELLLL · 22/04/2022 12:35

This Janelle raincoat is my favourite purchase of the year. And no need for a winter coat, it's so warm and snuggly!

Why would you be missing something? Surely it's just a case of different people having different tastes and individual definitions of what they consider stylish.

Fortyseven007 · 22/04/2022 12:38

I prefer Joules.
also the is Lighthouse clothing, similar to Seasalt but cheaper.

PriamFarrl · 22/04/2022 12:40

I really like their stuff. Also Boden and White Stuff. I don’t really care what the rest of MN think. I don’t like a lot of other brands that people rave about. We are all different.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 22/04/2022 12:40

I really like it so many nice things, but I prefer the more fitted stuff. Plus tea length doesn’t really suit me so I take it up. Wish they did more knee length skirts and longer trousers.

the pyjamas are expensive but so comfortable and feel like a real treat to wear.

RampantIvy · 22/04/2022 12:41

It's a matter of taste and what suits you isn't it? I don't understand the MN obsession with camel coats and tan boots. As a jewel winter those colours don't suit me at all.

Seasalt comes up with the occasional gem. In general I find their colours too muted, but last year I got some lovely wide leg navy blue linen trousers and a blue and white midi dress

I sometimes find the odd gem in White Stuff.

CarmenThePanda · 22/04/2022 12:42

Surely MN does not shop as one with a Unimind and a shared credit card?

I have some Seasalt knitwear, some rainwear and an occasional other bit. A ew summer tops. All excellent quality, good casual wear. I don't do patterned dresses and many of their dress styles, but then that is true for many other brands and styles I see other MNers loving.
