Can anyone recommend me a gripping podcast?

Preferably British and preferably true crime

I've whipped through all seasons of The Missing and really found that interesting. Was less interested in Fairy Meadow and I don't really like American OTT hosting styles

I've listed to a few UK true crime podcasts with Adam and they're ok but a bit .. dull. Think it's the narration style

Any recommendations please

I’ve just really enjoyed the latest series of Serial, which is not true crime but similar in investigation/narrative. It’s about the ‘Trojan Horse Affair’ in Birmingham, and it’s got lots of twists!

The Lovecraft Investigations (BBC Sounds)

Great cast too, including Nicola Walker

For those who loved Battersea Poltergeist or Uncanny, you'll love this

Thanks - I'll look into these! Lots to explore

I think 'the missing' has spoilt me! I keep trying American ones and can't bear the narration - so over the top sensational.

I just want to be gripped. I listen as I swim for 40 mins a day so need something to distract me from that boredom

Oh and 'the doorstep murder' is excellent. I recommend that

Serial - the latest is set in Birmingham but they’re all good. I loved the one about the schools a lot - “nice white parents” I think it was called.
Not quite the same but The Moth is great.

Killer Book Club

bonfireheart · 03/04/2022 23:02

Who the Hell is Hamish? It's Australian and really fascinating.

SausagePourHomme · 03/04/2022 23:03

I love reply all, the earlier ones are the best
99% invisible
S- town...so gripping
The coming storm
No such thing as a fish, with the QI elves
Sweet bobby...unputdownable and Shock

TragicMuse · 03/04/2022 23:04

@Hugasauras

Bear Brook

Absolutely Bear Brook. It's the best there is. The story is incredible, it's moving, it's got science, investigative history. It's just brilliant. And the delivery is great. I love Jason Moon!

For British, Paradise from the BBC is really good too. You think you know where it's going and then...

CatrinVennastin · 03/04/2022 23:05

British Scandal with Alice Levine and Matt Ford is really good. I’ve just listened to The coughing major (about the couple who cheated on who wants to be a millionaire) and the poisoning of Alexander Livitneko.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/04/2022 23:07

It's Australian not British, but I recommend Problem Child, the Keli Lane story. It doesn't have that OTT presentation, and the story is fascinating.

Also Bear Brook - American but worth it.

gettingolderbutcooler · 03/04/2022 23:09

13 minutes to the moon on iPlayer.

thenightsky · 03/04/2022 23:13

Uncanny. I had to stop listening to it at night in the dark as it scared me so much, and I consider myself horror hardcore.

I'm Not a Monster - about an American woman escaping from Isis after following her husband to Syria.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/04/2022 23:14

Did anyone else get irritated listening to Sweet Bobby? The podcast kept stressing that it is entirely normal to be in a relationship with someone you have never seen or spoken to, whereas I felt throughout that no, it isn't. And no, it couldn't happen to anybody, and not looking at what was going on with the victim meant only half the story was told.

garlicandsapphires · 03/04/2022 23:15

I didn’t know there were further seasons of Serial. OP if you haven’t listened to Serial then get on that asap!
