Can anyone recommend me a gripping podcast?

Preferably British and preferably true crime

I've whipped through all seasons of The Missing and really found that interesting. Was less interested in Fairy Meadow and I don't really like American OTT hosting styles

I've listed to a few UK true crime podcasts with Adam and they're ok but a bit .. dull. Think it's the narration style

Any recommendations please

Oh I forgot Dirty John! And the post office scandal!

FiveForAPound · 04/04/2022 20:25

Yes, I'd definitely like to refer back to it!

I'm listening to 'no strings attached' at the moment which is about the man who tried to murder his parachutist wife.

More votes for;

Uncanny
Battersea Poltergeist
West Cork
Bad Women

They Walk Among Us

Not a series as such, lots of stand alone or 2 part episodes detailing true crime stories. There’s a UK and US collection, new episodes weekly.

desperatehousewife2 · 04/04/2022 21:02

Can I ask which ‘the Missing’ podcast you’ve listened to, OP? There seems to be a few of that name.
I was absolutely gripped by Teacher’s Pet and Bear Brook

HardRockOwl · 04/04/2022 21:06

@desperatehousewife2 it's the one narrated by Pandora Sykes. Honestly - excellent!

Sorry not read full thread aw phone on 2% but I've been listening to some of the casefile episodes. It's an Australian presenter but he covers a lot of infamous crimes that happened in Britain in a lot more detail (not in a gruesome way as in goes into detail of backgrounds of the killers and victims)
Also there is a brilliant series on 'you must remember this ' about the Manson murders - it's ten parts and brilliant it is American though

efeslight · 04/04/2022 21:07

I have enjoyed -
Redhanded
Uncanny
Casefile
Crime Junkie
I used to like my favourite murder but i began to feel the crimes were being trivialised
Just started to listen to Mr Ballen, a US YouTuber who has started to release his stories as Podcasts. He has a respectful but really engaging manner

aiskabash · 04/04/2022 21:19

Thank you, Pawtriarchal. I will give that one a go. Looks quite good.

Sammysquiz · 04/04/2022 21:28

They Walk Among Us is great, though the narration is a bit monotone.

A gripping audiobook could be a good alternative to podcasts? I too try to find something absorbing to take my mind off the boredom of exercise and I find a great book can keep me going as I want to know what happens next!

Kath544 · 04/04/2022 22:38

Down the hill - American, v good
Teacher’s pet - Australian

frankie001 · 04/04/2022 22:42

Mr Ballen. True crime, love it!

MotherOfLunatics · 04/04/2022 23:04

The dropout is amazing!!

KingDangerMouse · 04/04/2022 23:09

This is excellent. And try Casefile.

user1477249785 · 04/04/2022 23:13

I really liked lots of those already mentioned. No one has suggested wind of change. I found this one gripping. It's about whether the song by the scorpions was actually a CIA plot to drive regime change in Russia

Palloom · 04/04/2022 23:30

I just discovered this one recently,

"The True Crime Enthusiast"

it is a British narrator with an accent that I would love someone to identify. It sounds Northern English but I can't pin point it. Anyway it is true crime and some interesting cases.

Not British but Canadian, and excellent IMV.

"Canadian True Crime"

This one is very good. Lots of cases from all over including Britain. I like the narrator's voice which although American is very soothing and mellow.

"The Evidence Locker"

I can only do podcasts with one narrator. Two chit chatting etc. on the one theme/case doesn't work for me at all.

ifyouturnonthelight · 04/04/2022 23:33

Case file but he's Australian however it's brilliant

rainbowlou · 04/04/2022 23:40

They walk among us is good

Saving this as lots of other good suggestions for when I do long distance driving

Sunnytwobridges · 05/04/2022 00:34

Case Files

Zaboomafoo · 05/04/2022 00:44

Mr Ballen has launched his podcast. He's popular on YouTube and he does it all in story format.
Quite addictive!

ogorange · 05/04/2022 01:47

Ah, I was thinking you were doing freestyle rather than breaststroke. I imagine if you wear a swimming cap that covers your ears that would further help them not fall out.

Mammyloveswine · 05/04/2022 01:48

Seeing Red
The true crime enthusiast
They walk among us (i listen on speed 1.5 so less monotone)
Redrum is fantastic
Murder mile
Mens Rea

Anoooshka · 05/04/2022 02:05

Fake Heiress is good.

ImInStealthMode · 05/04/2022 08:20

@Palloom True Crime Enthusiast is based in Wrexham I think, not sure if that's where he's from originally but could make sense as he seems to have a bit of a Liverpudlian / bit of Mancunian / bit of Welsh twang Grin

WearyLady · 05/04/2022 08:22

Yep, Death in Ice Valley is fascinating.
Also try Manhunt: Finding Kevin Parle.
