Can anyone recommend me a gripping podcast?

Preferably British and preferably true crime

I've whipped through all seasons of The Missing and really found that interesting. Was less interested in Fairy Meadow and I don't really like American OTT hosting styles

I've listed to a few UK true crime podcasts with Adam and they're ok but a bit .. dull. Think it's the narration style

Any recommendations please

I loved The Agent, absolutely fascinating true story of a Russian agent in the US.

Chocolatelabradors · 05/04/2022 22:36

The immaculate deception is great

CakeIsNotALuxury · 05/04/2022 22:37

Makeup, murder, mystery! Bailey Sarian is amazing.

West Cork

The Thing about Pam (I love Keith Morrison’s narration)

Down the hill- the Delphi murders is the one that stayed with me most. It’s so sad and I can’t get my head around the circumstances (don’t want to give too much away)

I love:
You’re Dead to Me
British Scandal (just listen to Robert Maxwell story it’s fascinating)
Crime Junkie
All Filla no Killa
Short History (read by Paul McGann it’s just perfect history lessons)
Criminal (again great narration)
Serial
Stuff you Should Know - easy listening and enjoyable

Bear Brook. Well I’m on the second episode from reading this thread last night it’s very interesting

‘Did anyone else get irritated listening to Sweet Bobby? The podcast kept stressing that it is entirely normal to be in a relationship with someone you have never seen or spoken to, whereas I felt throughout that no, it isn't. And no, it couldn't happen to anybody, and not looking at what was going on with the victim meant only half the story was told’

Yes I did. She bumped into Bobby in a club at the start of the relationship but he didn’t acknowledge her. I agree it was told as it wouldn’t really be questioned why you wouldn’t question not seeing the person you are in a relationship with. I found it irritating in the end

I've listened to first episode of British Scandal after the recommendation on this thread and absolutely hooked!!
I can't remember the last time I watched TV, I am constantly now listening to podcasts!

This is a great thread. Could you ask MNHQ to move it out of chat so it doesn't disappear
There is a podcast board.

Chat threads don't disappear anymore

Chat threads don't disappear anymore
I know but there is a dedicated board for podcasts, why not use it so threads about podcast don't get lost in the general chat board.

HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 13:27

@bonfireheart what did you like about it? I absolutely hated it. Those stupid, inane interruptions from Alice Levine, the way the pair of them trivialise what are interesting stories. I had no idea who their audience was supposed to , it was so dumbed down

Clearly it made me angry 😀

I totally agree with you.
I was so looking forward to that podcast and it was just ridiculous.

3kidsareenough · 06/04/2022 13:44

Place marking 🤗

bonfireheart · 06/04/2022 13:58

@hardrockowl Alice is my girl crush so maybe I'm biased lol but I like to listen to podcasts when doing chores or cooking, so them being dumbed down means I can half listen and still follow along.

BringMeTea · 06/04/2022 14:47

The Adoption
Girl Taken
Both bbc and very good.

The Adoption Girl Taken Both bbc and very good.
Omg the adoption is so good. I wept all the way through it. I'm filling up just remembering it Confused
ChuckBerrysBoots · 06/04/2022 17:07

I use The Adoption in training at work, really powerful

knittingaddict · 06/04/2022 17:16

Thank you for this thread. I've been listening to Immaculate Deception today and it's very interesting.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 18:57

Putin on BBC podcasts is absolutely fascinating and fantastic

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 06/04/2022 20:00

For drama, Fault Lines starring Glenda Jackson is good.

Rinatinabina · 06/04/2022 20:25

I didn’t like “bad people” it didn’t seem to explain much. There was one episode where they talked about John venebals being imprisoned again but saying it was nothing similar to the crime against Jamie Bulger and I though hang on wasn’t he imprisoned for viewing CSE images, so abuse of children again.

Sweet Bobby- shocking!

gardenwar · 06/04/2022 20:58

All are American but I love them so much!

  • Crime Junkie
  • Anatomy of Murder
  • Sword and Scale

Mostly cover a different true crime in one episode. No chatting/laughing outside the topic at hand (which I hate, so Redhanded didn't work for me), to the point, lots of detail. Love them!

ConfusedGin · 06/04/2022 21:44

So that my placemark is slightly less shameless...

I second The Lady Vanishes - found myself about to Google Marion's name on Monday but stopped myself to not spoil the surprise

Missing Maura Murray was one I listened to ages ago in a similar vein

And I'm a big Morbid fan
