Sleep if 100% off the cards. Had my knee replacement today, and fucking hell fire did I underestimate the pain. I had my hip replaced and stupidly thought it would be similar and I'd walk it. Turns out I was a dick to think that.

Sorry to hear that. Can you ask for some more pain relief? It really isn't on that you are in too much pain to sleep.

LadyLazarus40 · 01/01/2022 00:54

I’m sorry- hopefully they can give you some pain relief!

I hope you get to enjoy 2022 with your new knee Smile

Deffo ask for some more pain relief. My understanding is that knees are far more painful than hips.

I'm up, I'm slightly tipsy and watching top 80s songs and have decided music isn't as good as it used to be.

I've had my quota :( Not due anymore until 2am. I am sat reading the new Richard Osman book, or trying. They have taken the bandage off now as it was waaay too tight, which apparently it had to be for blood loss. I have a pillow case full of ice too. So I think it starting, slowly to feel slightly easier. I feel a bit whingey. I need a bed pan almost every hour because I'm on a fluid drip and my bladder is not used to being this hydrated!

Hello!

Happy new year - that sounds rubbish! Have you got an iPad? Because if so, I have a fantastic list of top TV you could crack on with?

LadyMaid · 01/01/2022 00:57

In my experience, the louder you scream, the faster they --tranquilise you,-- give you pain relief, preferably morphine.

Your understanding, now from experience is correct! I am on the list for my other hip and then I can get my other knee done and I am not looking forward to it I have to say!

Feel better soon! Flowers What are you most looking forward to doing with your new knee in 2022? And what is your favourite song to dance to?

Thank you! I am hoping by this time next year I'll have another new hip & knee! I hope that this is the start of a very productive year for my mobility!

I once spent a night in HDU next to someone who had had their knee done and I can concur it sounds like it hurts like buggery. Don’t sit in pain. They CAN give you more.

I’m not in the hospital but I’m home nursing my covid family. I’d love to see your list!

Worth asking for more pain relief.

Also, try and rest/sleep because pain is worse when you are tired

Do I need to make a fuss to get it? I can have some more oral morphine at 2 (honestly think it's having the same effect as Calpol) I did have tears in my eyes the last time I asked, which is why she cut the bandage off and gave me ice. That wasn't meant to come off until morning really

Happy new year and happy new knee! Did you get to see any fireworks from the hospital window at all?

I keep trying to shut my eyes but I'm just focusing on the boom boom boom feeling. That and the leg cuff I have on my other leg that beeps every 30 seconds and inflates every other 30 second after. That's quite off putting.

I did! There is an estate straight over the road. I heard a lot more than I saw though

Ah great Smile
The fireworks at the house over the road from us were bangy enough to set off a car alarm, which made the DC laugh.

notapizzaeater · 01/01/2022 01:07

I had mine done in April, ice is your friend here, don't underestimate the difference it can make.

I have a pillowcase full. Were you in pain? It's honestly shocked me how much this is hurting.. which is stupid of me really as they have removed my knee. So obviously it wasn't going to be a walk in the park! My hip was nothing at all like this. I was shocked the other way last time. Expected agony, got a bit of discomfort
OP posts:
crankysaurus · 01/01/2022 01:10

I'd agree with that, I broke my ankle what's now the year before last and an ice pack/ freezer cold pack was very effective for months afterwards.
