Sleep if 100% off the cards. Had my knee replacement today, and fucking hell fire did I underestimate the pain. I had my hip replaced and stupidly thought it would be similar and I'd walk it. Turns out I was a dick to think that.

Poor you! 4 new joints tho - you’ll be brand new eventually!

I am waiting for my shoulder and elbow too and although they are painful and I don't really use that arm any more, I want my legs back first

You should be getting more then just oral morphine.

What other analgesia are you prescribed?

Oxytocin? An oral pill every 12 hours and then ibuprofen and paracetamol.

My blood work have come back rubbish as well so I'm waiting for a transfusion now. I just thought I was a bit out of it because of the no sleep last r.

OP posts:
Muchmorethan · 01/01/2022 15:53

I don't think you'd be on oxytocin...

Youngatheart00 · 01/01/2022 15:55

@AllThingsServeTheBeam sorry to hear you’re having a hard time of it.

I think you’ll feel much better after your transfusion though.

Oxycodone maybe?

It was oxy something. It's 20mg slow release over 12 hours. I'll ask next time a nurse comes in

Oxycodone! Could be that one. I just heard the oxy bit

You made me smile about the oxytocin OP - I hope to God you're not in labour too! Wink
Wow, no wonder you were feeling rotten if your bloods are out of whack. The transfusion should help.

I don't know what they're giving me 😂 I just keep saying yes! I've just managed to have a 2 hour nap. Wish I'd managed it earlier on in the day really! I feel a bit more with it now I've had my blood.

Any tips FROM you about things to take in?

Nighties and big pants for sure. I had to use a bed pan for the first night. And my books and phone charger! I do have Netflix and what not on my phone to watch

Bless you OP.

I was in hospital over the summer - unexpectedly, won't go into detail.

But if it makes you chuckle I was also pumped full of IV fluids... promptly wet myself all over the floor on the ward the first morning and I'm not even yet 40 😂😂

Speedy recovery to you and I hope the pain eases

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 02/01/2022 07:20

Apparently today is normally when they start to 'step down' the pain meds. I honestly don't feel I've ever had the pain under control, so I aren't looking forward to the next 24 hours.

Sounds obvious but make sure they know that the pain relief has not been effective to date. Good luck.

The nurse has said she's going to have a word with the Dr. I can't see me going home tomorrow. Tbh, I don't feel comfortable going home tomorrow

So you’re literally just in bed aren’t you - wearing nightwear ? I wasn’t sure if I’d be expected to be up and sat in a chair and wearing clothes … think that was a touch naive lol

I was in the chair for a bit yesterday. And the physio is on his way now. So you can wear clothes if you like. But I'd find it a bit of a struggle.

I'm really tall so all mine barely cover my arse! But I don't like being hot so I am afraid people might have seen slightly more bum cheek than they wanted to this weekend.

@QOD Thanks for the response. Hmm, I'd better get the process started then...

ShowOfHands · 02/01/2022 13:58

Oh op I really sympathise. My Dad is slowly being made bionic and he's had a real mix of recoveries from utter surprise at how easy it was to one where his pain was completely out of control. He also suffered because his replacements are due to arthritis and for the surgeries, he was often made to lie flat and he can't do that irl. Putting him in operable positions caused all sorts of agonies once the anaesthetic wore off.

Sadly, he's had long waits for each op. 3yrs for his first hip and he's been waiting ages for his next one.

I really hope you're on the mend and home soon.

All totally worth it btw. My dad whilst waiting for some ops has been in a wheelchair and in constant pain. Each new joint has been a breath of fresh air.

QOD · 02/01/2022 16:54

I can’t believe how quickly you can suddenly Honey downhill with it. I’ve gone from doing 3 miles walks with a touch of a limp to having to use a stick in literally 2 months. Some of it is the weather too tho as mines arthritis
Initial injury was a fall down the stairs 12 yrs ago and landed on the knee cap, burst the bursa.
Lots of issues but not that that that bad until I fell over (hypermobile which makes me a massive clumsy twat) and broke my OTHER knee cap.
The strain over the last 2 years has destroyed all the cartilage apart from the outer side of my knee. But cons said as I’m bone on bone front, inside back and completely inside of knee there’s just no in between

QOD · 02/01/2022 16:54

Great to read that @ShowOfHands
Tell your dad he’s amazing!
