Sleep if 100% off the cards. Had my knee replacement today, and fucking hell fire did I underestimate the pain. I had my hip replaced and stupidly thought it would be similar and I'd walk it. Turns out I was a dick to think that.

How’s your mobility ?

It's just really really stiff. But it not painful as such anymore. The muscles really ache after exercise, but icing really helps. And some days it's more swollen than others but I am getting about a lot easier. It's just my hip that's letting me down. I think I'd be up for a walk around the block if it wasn't for that

I have to say. I'm not having a fun time of it today. My knee has been fine. I am almost at 100 bend. But I still need to stren my quads, so the physio introduced today quarter squats and sit to stands without arm support. My god, I warned him it would hurt my hip. But I can't even weight bear tonight. DP has literally had to carry me upstairs to bed whilst I'm in a teary mess. I am calling my RA consultant tomorrow. I need my op.

Oh jeez that’s ridiculous. Taking no note of your other joints!!
I would be the same as my other knee is heading down the same road. Just starting the last week to actually feel painful because I’m hobbling so badly on poorly knee. Squatting would be a hard no

My peddler/pedlar/pédaler came yesterday 👀

❤️

It's a lot better today but I've felt like shit, coughing and sneezing. Just did a test, positive for bloody covid. Must be off the kids 🙈

Nooooooooooo

So many of my friends have it. Are you CEV @AllThingsServeTheBeam ?
One of my besties had the sotrovimab infusion today as she is. Doesn’t have a bad case of covid at all but it’s to keep her well

I am CV but only due to the meds I am taking. Which I have only taken 1 lot of since December due to me having to stop them because of my op. I was due to take them again tonight (2 different once a week injections) but I have decided against it. Tbh, it was the best time for me to actually get it! I just feel really full of cold. I do have a bit of a cough and I've lost my voice!

I am meant to be starting back at work on Monday. Only 50% hours and working from home, but still!

I am so sorry @QOD for some reason this thread has gone from my 'Im on' on the app!

How are you doing now? How long were you in hospital? Have they got you good pain meds?

OP posts:
QOD · 14/02/2022 08:14

4 days. Op a success but it’s been super hard
I can’t take nsaids/anti inflammatory meds and the difference that made was unbearable
I was great the day after op but when the swelling developed I just went to bits

Day after surgery in the morning Managed crutches jn my room. By the afternoon I was sobbing in bed. Unable to lift foot a mm Off Floor
Just a friggin awful awful time
There were about 5 other joint replacements that day. Me the youngest by 25 yrs. they were
They were all skipping up and down the corridor on the crutches happy as Larry fit as fleas and chatting away.

And meanwhile I’m lying in bed sobbing. Eventually the pharmacist and the medical officer had a little meeting about me and prescribed some anti-inflammatory suppositories (they should reach stomach lining as absorbed into muscles membrane). Oh my word what a difference. However It put me way behind and I didn’t come home till late yesterday afternoon. So three
Nights and four days in hospital. Swelling was out of control before the suppositories , went down about 6 inches after.
Not as painful as the shoulder reconstruction just a horrible experience. It’s so weird though because you could just hop on the operated leg and it will be fine it’s just as soon as you bend it in anyway the pain starts in the tissue as you well know.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 14/02/2022 09:56

@QOD I am so sorry you were struggling. I was the same. The little old lady in the room opposite me was bending and walking round on crutches and I wasn't able to get out of bed on my own and had to use a frame!

How is your lift now? I couldn't lift my foot off the floor until day 12 or so. I certainly couldn't bend it. Have you reached 90? I got so hung up on it and you really don't need to. It comes eventually. You need to let yourself heal. Apparently the younger you are the worse the swelling, so that needs to be a factor too.

How are you sleeping? That was the git for me

OP posts:
QOD · 14/02/2022 10:29

Oh I just read that back and so many typos lol
I slept from 4 am to 6:45am lol
Absolute nightmare night

Pain isn’t that bad just can’t get comfy wtx

Yes that's the issue I had. The pain was under control but it's getting comfortable.

I just couldn't drop off at all. I'm on week 6 now and I can lie on my side, albeit with a cushion between my legs, but once I could do that sleep did improve.

Have the physio team been in touch yet?

The moving every hour is so hard. Especially in the early days. I felt like I was just about getting comfortable and it was time to try and move again. Are you managing stairs ok?
OP posts:

Surprisingly good on stairs!
I’ve been given a thingy for around the loo’s and am using it upstairs like zimmer lol. So classy

Not too bad! Not suffering like you did (thank feck 😂 )
I have goodish days on the whole and think yeah! I got this! Then every night turns to shite
I’ve not had a day home alone yet because I am a princess
I think weds is my first day without a carer but I have 2 different friends dropping by
I’m in the lull where the exercises I’m given to do are ok, but the real physio and pain starts Friday again

Blooming drama llama. It’s not like I’ve had the middle of my leg hacked out or anything

How about you?

I’m day 11 I think x
