Sleep if 100% off the cards. Had my knee replacement today, and fucking hell fire did I underestimate the pain. I had my hip replaced and stupidly thought it would be similar and I'd walk it. Turns out I was a dick to think that.

Sorry for the late response. They're treating me for a clot but couldn't get a scan last night as the Dr got held up. It does look slightly better this morning and the surgeon has been and says he thinks it RA inflammation. Good news is everyone has said as long as I am happy I can go home. Well to my nans house actually. They are sending me home with morphine, but I aren't taking it unless I desperately need it. Still a long round yet. But every hour sees a bit of an improvement.

I'm 31. (I know, it's really shit) She's made me a brew, made me a cheese spread bap and now she's settling down with me up the corner with my leg propped up getting ready for her soaps!

Oh honey! 31? That’s so young to be needing all of this.

I’m glad your Nan is looking after you. Enjoy the soaps (and the morphine!)

I know! I struggled today when I got here as Dp and the DC were here and DS2 burst into tears and wanted to know when I could come home. They're both coming to see me after school tomorrow

31!! Just a baby. I’m 52 and that’s considered young for it

I was 27 when I had my hip done. That changed my life overnight. I am hoping that day comes soon with my knee!

Goodness op, hope you’re ok today what a time you’ve had. I hope you’re on your feet again soon and this year brings you the improved mobility you need, I’ve had bad arthritis in my knee and have been in a lot of pain which is a tiny fraction of what you’ve been through. Get well soon and hope Nan looks after you well Flowers

See if you can get a knee icepack as above - i used this for months after knee replacement. Hydrotherapy is good if you can find it locally - private hospitals offer this although its not cheap.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 05/01/2022 11:42

Just ordered one of those ice packs.

Is the swelling normal? I'm meant be trying to bend it, but it's so hard being so swollen.

OP posts:
bilbodog · 05/01/2022 12:10

Try gentle massage on the area after icing and before and after any exercises - but you are early days.

Did the hospital give you specific exercises to do? Make sure you take pain medication regularly as keeping it topped up will give the best relief and dont exercise until the medication has kicked in. Then rest - if you dont rest enough you will get pain and swelling.

Dont try and do too much too soon as you will set your recovery back.

Good luck.

Lifting my foot. Flattening and bending. And just bending as much as I can. I really want to lay off some of the heavy duty painkillers as I haven't been the loo (TMI) since Thursday and I can't eat anymore prunes! I have got myself a leg lifter for getting in and out of bed now which has made it a lot earlier x

It really is important to get bending it as much as possible as soon as possible, so look on the pain killers as a necessary short term pain in the ass (quite literally possibly). What are you taking for constipation? There are lots of options.

I'm on movicol twice a day and lactulose (sp) strong coffee and prunes. It's not really the pain that is stopping me it's the huge amount of swelling around my knee and thigh. The Dr yesterday mentioned he thinks it's because I have stopped all my RA meds and my inflammation markers are high in my blood.

I aren't really feeling it today. I had a bit of a breakdown on when I was uncomfortably sat on the loo earlier. I just hope it's all worth it in the end

Hang on in there. If there is still a lot of swelling dont do too much exercise as this will make it worse. Do little and often.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 05/01/2022 16:53

What dose of movicol are you on? If you haven’t been since Thursday then it should be a strong dose - up to 6 sachets per day from memory.

Also, even if you don’t have piles, sometimes a suppository like anusol can help move things along.,

I've been (sorry TMI again) I was drinking about 3 movicols and eating prunes and drinking coffee. Ive not overloaded myself with food over the past couple of days either so I think that's helped

My hubby bought me one of those knee ice/heat packs above for xmas 😂. So romantic
What’s a leg lifter OP?

Do you have discomfort as in you want to poo or are you just fretting about it?

QOD · 05/01/2022 17:52

Don’t worry. Found a leg lifter £6 on Amazon!
