One4all giftcards are a nightmare

You can only use them online to pay for something of their value or less.

They're such a PITA - I always end up buying DS's from him and just giving him the £ instead.

Oops, not sure how that last line of mine got there.

Or
@NewMoonPhase

Can you send a link showing where you swap to JL vouchers please? When I go onto the Swap part of the one4all site, John Lewis isn’t an option?

www.one4all.com/egifts

May@Toddlerteapleasebe you did it ano

John Lewis evoucher are temporarily unavailable on the website, there was another thread about it today.

BertiesShoes · 28/12/2022 14:04

Ah, thanks @Chasingsquirrels, does anyone know if it’s temporary or permanent?

BertiesShoes · 28/12/2022 14:05

I suspect too many people have been swapping them - 🤣🤣🤣

Amandasummers · 28/12/2022 14:10

We've never had a problem using them. ds just swapped his online for 2 £15 xbox vouchers and use them instantly. The girls will probably use theirs in primark or something like I will.

The kids One4all are even worse! The retailers are WHSmith, Build a Bear, Vue, Schuh, Go Ape, Toucan (subscription box) or the Entertainer. So only one shop you can buy toys, and it's a really poor toy shop. I've bought them off my kids in the past thinking I'll use them for their Christmas presents, and nothing on their lists is available at the entertainer. We don't have a Vue or Go Ape locally. Really poor choice, and you can't even use them online.

WH Smith sell gift cards - we used one to buy a JL gift card from WH Smith and gave DC money to spend on anything they wanted. If we receive them, we also convert into a shop voucher immediately so money is spent and not lost

I agree with others that they are a scam and designed to make spending as difficult as possible so they can keep the money.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2022 14:39

@BertiesShoes I can't remember, it was several years ago.

LubaLuca · 28/12/2022 15:15

Can you use them to buy a John Lewis gift card online? If the swap thing isn't working on the One4All page, can you go via JL website and do essentially the same thing I wonder...?

Oh no I posted some off for Christmas are they rubbish 😕

They can be used in so many shops as cash equivalent, you just need to tell the staff the amount on the card, it is so easy

caffelattetogo · 28/12/2022 16:11

Our balance was wiped to zero before the expiry - they deduct an admin fee every month if they are unused. Worst vouchers ever!

TwoMonthsOff · 28/12/2022 16:14

The expiry date is something like two years after purchase though

No they can't.

A lot of the shops and restaurants they can be used in have gone into administration and won't accept them.

The cards can be refused at th emanagers' discretion and a two year useability window is not much cop when there's a monthly fee for not using the bloody things.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 29/12/2022 09:12

So glad to have found this thread - I thought I was the only one struggling with these bloody things! Last year I was given £100 of One4All vouchers by my employer (two £50 vouchers) - I'm very grateful, but I've struggled to spend them! I have something like £2.50 left on one card and £12 left on the other! I used them in Wagamama and I found that the restaurant had no clue what to do with them and didn't take the correct amount even when told how much was left on the cards.

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 10:42

I used them in Boots
Marks and Spencer’s Food
Argos
as cash equivalent

with no problems - so weird how people seem to struggle

they even have App where you can check the balance on the card and when they expire

and tells you what stores to use them in

LubaLuca · 29/12/2022 11:00

You're clearly one of the lucky few who doesn't want to use them online, and who hits on store assistants who know what they are and what to do with them!

They are the least convenient method of payment available.

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 11:05

I discovered they aren’t useable on line and did the next easiest thing

FoodieToo · 29/12/2022 11:16

Just had the same issue with one last week . Was trying to use in person towards my Christmas shop in M and S . It was declined ! I think because it was not the exact value of the purchase …..
So I came home and converted easily to an M and S gift card . Was able to do this online no bother . And they are easy to use !

OhmygodDont · 29/12/2022 11:28

We tend to covert to Xbox or robux hate the bloody cards tho. Just one elder family member who insists on giving them every year for Christmas. Birthdays they send actual cash tho. Bonkers.

hellsbells99 · 29/12/2022 11:29

I have never had a problem with them but have only used instore. You do need to know how much is on them before you go out shopping and then use a normal card/cash to pay the difference

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 11:55

@FoodieToo
you need to know the value on the card and tell the staff, it’s probably best to try and spend the same/or nearest amount on the card then they can throw it in the bin after purchase !
I think they do two versions of the card, the gift card which is black and the e card which is gold, and that one is a chip and pin card that needs activating, i think that’s right, but their app is okay for checking balances and store info.
agree they are a pain online as the amount has to be exact so why I gave up and used in shops.
I would never bother with them again though, I had a lot from work and was glad to see the back of the last one but I really did not have any issues with the staff not being familiar with them, they just swipe the data strip down the side of the card reader.

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 12:00

@CakeIsNotAvailable
do you have boots or marks and Spencer nearby where you can use the remaining balance

ditherydotty · 29/12/2022 19:20

Awful things, as much as kids were grateful at getting them from their uncle I've not worked out how to use the bloody thing. The entertainer shop didn't know either so I ended up £50 lighter.

I have an M&S Simply Food nearby so I'll try to use it in there next time I go - I'll have to remember to check the balances just before I reach the checkout!
