One4all giftcards are a nightmare

You can only use them online to pay for something of their value or less.

They're such a PITA - I always end up buying DS's from him and just giving him the £ instead.

Just converted mine to a JL voucher after having it since last Christmas and nearly throwing it in the bin after spending ages (unsuccessfully) trying to use it on Boots online a few months ago. Thank you to everyone who explained that you could do this!

LubaLuca · 29/12/2021 12:24

@SerendipitySunshine

It's like anyone who has ever had to redeem one would never buy one as a gift!
Yes, absolutely.
ItsAlwaysThere · 29/12/2021 12:27

They're awful. I usually by my children's off them and they're usually for £10 and they never just want to spend £10 in Argos!

Gardeningtipsneeded · 29/12/2021 12:33

Yes thanks for the tip! Collected all of them up from the childrens rooms/wallets/forgotten nooks and crannies and converted them into JL vouchers! £120!

LaQuern · 29/12/2021 12:44

I had to ask my PIL to stop getting them for us as I got sick and tired of causing huge queues in shops at the till.

Every use involved getting a manager, who would then go to check they accepted them then, when they discovered they did, they then had to work out how to process them on the till.

FinallySomeNormality · 29/12/2021 12:55

They're bloody awful!
They decrease in value which I think is daylight robbery and they're also so so difficult to actually use!

We shop online primarily and obviously shopped online during all lockdowns so the inability for them to be used as part payment meant we didn't actually get to spend the £100s we'd be given on them (given as new baby gifts).

We have been having a right faff with them again yesterday when trying to use them on JL website. Eventually figured out how to convert them to JL vouchers and now the whole part payment issue can be resolved. Shouldn't need to be so hard though surely?!??

MsEmmeline · 29/12/2021 13:09

Oh wow @Gardeningtipsneeded, that's fab!

thanks for actually starting this thread @MsEmmeline, hopefully it will come up when people google these fecking things. I have lost 160 euros on them. All the parents give kids these vouchers at birthday parties and you stash them away and then they debit monthly after a year which wipes 20 quid cards out fairly fast and then all at the same time, learned too late.

Kezzie200 · 29/12/2021 20:12

So I've decided to use mine in TK max.

Do I just hand in at the till?

It's for £40 and we will find something!

HideRanger · 29/12/2021 21:46

They’re absolutely awful and they’re definitely a scam.

Gift cards in general are a scam, especially the ones that expire within 6 months.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/12/2021 22:05

dh's work give them out!

There was a good deal of bad language when he was trying to do something on the website, but the first one we used in Argos as part payment on a freezer and the second one I used part of in B&Q for diy stuff, the assistant did say to remember how much was on there though or it'd be a bugger in the future.

It's good to know about hte monthly fee though....that's pretty pants!

youngestisapsycho · 29/12/2021 22:44

I have a gold one that’s chip and pin. Does it not work like a regular card? In the machine and tap your PIN number? I haven’t tried to use it yet but there is £200 on it!

youngestisapsycho · 29/12/2021 22:44

It says the monthly fee is only after 18 months

I can't seem to figure out how to change them into JL vouchers....any tips?

These cards are so annoying!
I got two from work. There's a really complicated system where you have to set up a PIN for them. That includes sending on photo verification to a different third-party site.

I also have one of the normal non-PIN ones. After 12 months, the value went down €1.45 a month! So the card went to zero.

Nowhere I shop takes them. Luckily my supermarket takes them, so that's where I use them now.

I've 3 cards with a few euros left on them, must check the balance (if it's not gone to zero) and use them up.

They're awful aren't they. Last year I learnt the trick of just buying an M&S gift voucher with it - problem solved!

I have a relative who buys them and my heart sinks. I don't tend to give gift vouchers to family now, I gift cash. I'm not sure why gifting someone money but restricting where they can spend it, isn't a bit condescending. I can see why a book or record token was a thing, but why give someone a one-for-all card instead of cash.

Baystard · 30/12/2021 08:14

bobkate you just but a gift card. Most retailers sell gift vouchers, you just buy one for the amount on your one-for-all card and use it to pay. The retailer emails you the gift card.

bobkate · 30/12/2021 09:50

Thanks so much. That's on my to do list for today!

Hardtofindafreename · 30/12/2021 17:51

Don't Tescos take them? You could use up the remainder few pounds there. I find them very easy to use, never really had a problem with them, so really surprised at all the negative comments this year

HideRanger · 30/12/2021 18:36

Heartfelt thanks to the person who said to swap to John Lewis vouchers on the One4All website. I did exactly that, and my voucher came through (and was spent) within minutes. I had been trying to spend this latest voucher since September!

IAmMyOwnWorstEnemy · 30/12/2021 20:00

I wouldn't recommend the love2shop Ecards either. Been trying to get rid for over a year but although places are on the list to use they never accept the voucher. Wouldn't mind but its £50

Lovelymincepies · 30/12/2021 20:06

I hate them and yet every year I get one or more. Just give me cash FFS! Or even nothing at all. IT just shows such a lack of thought. I am a huge hater of gift cards though.

Guardsman18 · 19/11/2022 10:15

I just searched for this as M&S wouldn't accept the card. Went into One4all website and thought I'd get Argos vouchers as might be easier. Got through most of it and an error message came up. Thought I'd start again but my balance is showing as £0.00 now! So frustrating. Anyone know what, if anything, I can do?

Guardsman18 · 19/11/2022 10:23

Scrap my post above. I have received an email to say my Argos voucher is on its way! Here's hoping
