You can only use them online to pay for something of their value or less.

They're such a PITA - I always end up buying DS's from him and just giving him the £ instead.

Apologies @bantuknots73, I thought you might work for them 🙈.

@MsEmmeline Actually - I wronged them. I've just had emails with working links to the JL vouchers so it clearly takes an hour or so for them to come through.

GoodnightGrandma · 27/12/2021 18:21

Agree !
I’d rather have nothing than these PITA cards

2pinkginsplease · 27/12/2021 18:27

My in laws have bought us them for the last 6 or so years and they are a PITA. We did say that they spare really difficult to use on line and that you need to keep track as to how much is on them, we’ve probably wasted so much money with these cards however last year she got one and found it difficult to use and said they weren’t great and this year we got money rather than those vouchers,

CointreauVersial · 27/12/2021 18:27

I've never had a problem using them as part payment.....but I've only used them in store. The biggest irritation is you have to know how much is left on it. You can check online, but that's no good if you are stood at the checkout.

Littleducks · 27/12/2021 18:27

Also lost money in inactive fees as couldn't use damn things. Hate them.

Aderyn21 · 27/12/2021 18:29

I bought one off ds yesterday to save him the hassle. Used it online at tkmaxx but it's bugging me that there's still about £7 on it. Determined to find something to spend it on - am not letting them scam me out of it!

MadMadMadamMim · 27/12/2021 18:30

@LetHimHaveIt

They're utter bullshit. You have to know and thereafter keep track of the precise balance, as shops can't tell you. And if you're wrong - e.g you think there's £25 quid but there's actually £24.79 - it'll decline the whole transaction. I think you can use them for part payment but you have to use them before a debit card. Or after. I forget. Hate 'em. I bet there's thousands in drawers up and down the land, with several quid left on them because people just lost the will.
This! Absolutely. I hate them and refused to purchase one for my SIL this year despite there being no other option in the store I was in. I put cash in her card instead - which feels a bit of a shit present, and thoughtless - but not as thoughtless as buying a bloody one4all card she can't use.
SerendipitySunshine · 27/12/2021 18:30

They really are con artists.

MsEmmeline · 27/12/2021 18:31

This is the link that you can use to swap any One4all giftcards for a different kind of giftcard:

https://www.one4all.com/egifts]

There aren't a huge number of choices, but there are some (and John Lewis is one of those).

Aderyn21 · 27/12/2021 18:32

I wonder if you can convert part of a voucher. Might try later

megletthesecond · 27/12/2021 18:35

Our shopping centre runs a similar scheme. They expire after a year and the last pennies are impossible to spend.

MsEmmeline · 27/12/2021 18:36

Yes, I think you can @Aderyn21.

Genuine question: would it be worth someone setting up a petition, asking the government to officially investigate them? They really are that difficult and so many people have spent their money on them, surely it's a matter of public interest?

Reallybadidea · 27/12/2021 18:53

You can also use them to buy digital gift cards which can then be used as part payment online. I know this works for M&S and Argos, there's probably more too.

bantuknots73 · 27/12/2021 19:01

@MsEmmeline

Apologies *@bantuknots73*, I thought you might work for them 🙈.
Hahaha defo not but I never knew how many people hated them! I always thought of them to be so convenient lol
Needdoughnuts · 27/12/2021 19:14

I think this tells you all you need to know. And at least 15 bad reviews in the last 24 hours

I think you're right - maybe Money Saving Expert / Which / Trading standards or whatever they're called now?

I think someone could just set up a petition on the government petitions website. Earlier this year there was a petition asking the government to investigate the DVLA for their bad service during the pandemic. The reply from the government was no, we're not going to investigate, but even just raising awareness would be useful. It's a matter of consumer protection, and you know what's really sad is the number of well-meaning people who've bought them as presents for people yet never get told there was a problem. I certainly didn't tell the relative who bought it for me, as it would've just sounded ungrateful for the present, especially as it was £10. But people work hard all year to afford this stuff, it's a really bad situation really.

Fritilleries · 27/12/2021 20:08

They're utter shite. I've received them as a teacher and I could weep for the wasted money as they are impossible to spend.

Itstheprinciple · 27/12/2021 20:54

I've successfully used them in Argos and Curry's as part payment but instore, not online.

Kezzie200 · 27/12/2021 21:03

I've got one for 40 and Rituals are on their list and I did want some reed fragrances from there.

Am I able to use it to buy 40 plus online a d top up with a credit card for the few pounds over its bound to be?

Notbluepeter · 27/12/2021 21:04

Yes they are basically unusable. I've never felt so much rage towards an inanimate object before.

Reallybadidea · 27/12/2021 21:08

You can't normally part-pay with them because they're effectively a debit card. But you could try using it to buy a rituals e gift voucher and then use that as you can normally part pay with gift vouchers. It's worked for me with other retailers in the past.
hemhem · 27/12/2021 21:12

Oh no this is awful to read. I have given them as gifts to my staff this year. I thought they looked great as it seemed to offer a lot of choice and the staff are quite new so I didn't want to choose vouchers for a shop they don't go to. I'll be gutted if they don't work. £200 wasted! They are heavily promoted by the Post Office as well.
