I can't understand how anyone doesn't like bread sauce.

It's delicious, second best thing on a roast dinner.

What do you enjoy that you can't believe others don't?

I have never tried bread sauce!

gofg · 21/12/2021 19:21

I can't actually imagine having it with Christmas dinner - I'll stick with gravy thanks! I don't think it's a thing in NZ anyway.

@pairsinparis

Hey I tell you what's also great on a roast, but only roast lamb, onion sauce
Shock

I thought onion sauce with lamb was an invention of my family!

I have never had bread sauce. Maybe I'll try it this Xmas.

Never tried it! It’s not really a thing here (NE Scotland).

Is it just warm wet milky bread? Xmas Confused

ChocolateRiver · 21/12/2021 20:05

I’ve got to 40 years old and have never once tried bread sauce. Don’t feel like I’m missing out.

coconuthead · 23/12/2021 20:50

@RonniePickering

Do people who recoil from bread sauce enjoy bechamel or cheese or similar flour-thickened sauces?

I can eat cheese sauces.

but at least have some sort of understanding about what it actually is!

I understand exactly what it is, I've seen the recipe for it. It will always be wet bread though unfortunately 🤷🏼‍♀️

Agree.

A roux base is totally different to wet bread!

Shade17 · 23/12/2021 21:38

It’s divine, we always have it with roast chicken as well.

WildRosie · 23/12/2021 21:44

I was never a fan but now I can't stand it. Maybe my distaste coincided with the time Mum stopped making it from scratch and went down the Colman's route. Cheat!

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2021 10:01

I got three bloody tubs of the stuff then realised you don't really eat much with the dinner !! So there's loads left. Guess I'll freeze it.

pairsinparis · 26/12/2021 11:01

Not to big myself up, but I made some for Xmas dinner yesterday and introduced it to four people who had never had it before. They genuinely all loved it.

Might make some more later. I eat it on it's own it's so delicious.

Tillymintpolo · 26/12/2021 13:24

I got some from M&S and it was bloody lovely, especially with roast ham

Mumofstanley · 27/12/2021 03:18

I’ve never heard of bread sauce.
