I can't understand how anyone doesn't like bread sauce.

It's delicious, second best thing on a roast dinner.

What do you enjoy that you can't believe others don't?

My OP was what do you like that you can't believe other people don't like. It was just a bit of fun. If you have no contribution to make then don't post? HTH

I started doing bread sauce for the first time two years ago and everyone said 'Why the hell are you bothering with this stuff? It's awful.'

I was determined we must all be missing something and just needed to give it a go, but I have to admit they were right. It's at best pointless and at worst, really grim. I probably won't bother this year.

Actually @percythewitch the OP's question about why she hates coriander and thinks it tastes of washing up liquid is an interesting one and one to which there is a simple answer: turns out it's down to a genetic variant in taste receptors. About 20% of people think coriander tastes of soap.

I had never tried it before moving to the UK and let's just say it was love at first bite! SO good.

pairsinparis · 20/12/2021 18:59

@YesThisIsMe Well I never!

I adore it I've just purchased three tubs of it !!!

RedRec · 20/12/2021 19:05

I am 59 and have never had bread sauce. Don't intend to either, it looks and sounds repulsive.

BarryTheKestrel · 20/12/2021 19:08

Bread sauce truly is incredible. Only me, DH and my great aunt like it though, so I make it and we all have huge dollops and then leftovers in sandwiches whilst everyone else looks on in disgust

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/12/2021 19:10

Bread sauce is the highlight of my year. Post gastric band I can't eat bread any more so some lovely person invented liquidized bread.

tigger1001 · 20/12/2021 19:12

No bread sauce for me - looks like vomit.

Love cranberry sauce though. I make my own, and am the only one in the house who likes it, but have it on sandwiches etc

Thelikelylass · 20/12/2021 19:21

I'm with you OP and the weird thing is - I only eat it ONCE a year but I love it so much! It's like there is a little unwritten rule in my head that I have to save this very special thing for ONCE a year. It's available everywhere, every day...

satci · 20/12/2021 19:21

My husband hates it. I realised recently he hasn't tried it. It's bloody lovely

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 20/12/2021 19:22

I love it! The first thing I do on Christmas morning is stud an onion with cloves!

fitflopqueen · 20/12/2021 19:23

We are having Xmas lunch with parents this year and my kids - well 24/28 - have a plan to take plenty of tupperware so that we can bring home the left overs including bread sauce which my son loves on a sandwich with all the other bits.

IgneousRock · 20/12/2021 19:24

Bread sauce is the best.

MrsTophamHat · 20/12/2021 19:25

As someone who has never ever had it - what do you do with it? Does it go over the turkey in place of gravy?

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 20/12/2021 19:28

Not how I eat it - I dollop a load on my plate as I would with, e.g. mayonnaise, and take it on my fork along with whatever I'm having a forkful of.
MrsTophamHat · 20/12/2021 19:29

Thanks @ArblemarzipanTFruitcake , i mught give it a try as the ingredients sound good. So you would have it like apple sauce with pork, and have turkey gravy as well?

We actually have goose, not turkey, but yes. I make an orange sauce/gravy using goose stock and meat juices and the bread sauce takes the role of condiment.
LubaLuca · 20/12/2021 19:32

Bread porridge just takes up gut room that should be for roast potatoes and pigs in blankets. It's slurry.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 20/12/2021 19:33

@MrsTophamHat I recommend Delia Smith's recipe if making your own - you can't go wrong with it.

Bellafrenum · 20/12/2021 19:37

Saaaaaaame!!

Unsure33 · 20/12/2021 19:41

Love it . Always homemade though

BalloonsOnFire · 20/12/2021 19:42

Bread sauce however is lovely
