Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

OP posts:
Guacamole001 · 01/12/2021 18:56

Yes I would be most interested too.

x2boys · 01/12/2021 19:23

Surprisingly no .I don't think so I'm interested in the out come of this too .

Guacamole001 · 02/12/2021 08:17

I used to be a legal secretary for the law firm that defended Kevin and Ian Maxwell in the pensions scandal back in the 1990s.

I am following with interest.

DartmoorChef · 02/12/2021 08:24

I just searched to see if there was a thread too. It should be interesting.

orangepeelsz · 02/12/2021 08:33

Well we can chat on here if there isn't already one, maybe I should also get this moved to news?

Up to now I'm a little surprised there isn't more press coverage, it's on the news at 10pm etc but I thought I'd see more online but maybe I've missed it.

So the witnesses have started to give their accounts and the defence are pulling apart the accounts mentioning discrepancies etc.

I wonder what Ghislaine's evidence will be and if she is going to mention Prince Andrew and other people of interest?!

Does anyone know how long the trial is meant to last?

Theunamedcat · 02/12/2021 08:37

The pilot has already said he took Andrew on the plane didn't he?

x2boys · 02/12/2021 08:38

I think I heard at least six weeks ?
I used to get CNN as part of my TV package ,I'm sure that would give more coverage
But I just sky and BBC etc now so they are just mentioning it here and there.

FrancescaContini · 02/12/2021 08:41

@Theunamedcat

Yes, and he said that Clinton and Trump had also been on the plane.

I’m also interested in following this. So far, the defence team has argued that GM is being made a scapegoat now that JE is dead…which isn’t much of an argument.

colouringindoors · 02/12/2021 08:51

Also following with interest. There was an article in the Independent yesterday which mentioned one of the women's testimony. Not sure if I should repeat it on here, could be triggering. But she alleges GM was also an abuser, not only a procurer.

I cannot imagine that she's innocent. But I do also suspect she will get a tougher time/especially negative media coverage due to her sex.

But so far, so little coverage in the media…wonder why? 🤦‍♀️ Ah, perhaps the clue is in the surname…
SpindlesWinterWhorl · 02/12/2021 08:54

I thought the pilot's evidence - the little that's been reported - was very carefully crafted to give himself plausible deniability on his own part.

Yessir, all those really famous men were there (the pilot can hardly claim to have forgotten them) but oh the girl looked like a grown woman to me so why would I possibly think anything might be a bit dodgy? I'm just an innocent pilot.

I think we'll see a lot of this throughout the trial. The 'I didn't personally notice anything wrong' gambit. Prince Andrew already used it in his Emily Maitlis interview.

I honestly thought GM would do a deal by this point, or be 'persuaded' to do one. Look at the names already being mentioned.

PerditaNitt · 02/12/2021 08:57

House in Habit (Jessica Reed kraus) on Instagram is doing really good coverage of the trial and background.

Re the deal, it sounds like she wasn’t offered a plea and her defence didn’t ask for one.

Crunchiedelight · 02/12/2021 08:58

Follow houseinhabit on Instagram- she’s an American freelance journalist and is covering the story in her Instagram stories. Definitely some kind of media censorship/ hush up going on.

It’s a huge case which is hardly getting any media coverage.

of course! face palm....

Anyone good to follow on Twitter?

Theunamedcat · 02/12/2021 09:04

Its being reported on the BBC

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 02/12/2021 09:12

There's a piece in the Guardian, but it's not particularly prominent. More prominent is Trump's 'charm offensive' interview with bloody Farage.

I think the PR machines of certain powerful / well-known men are whirring like crazy. Expect 'puff pieces' on Donnie, Bill and Andrew to be circulating shortly. Good works. Family ties. Poor health.

Kezzie200 · 02/12/2021 10:02

I read somewhere instant press on twitter was good, but I've not explored it

Maranello · 02/12/2021 10:10

There's plenty of reporting - the Maxwell name doesn't carry much cachet in the British press any more! - but the timing of the trial in the US means it's less prominent here in the UK as a lot of the developments come late in our evening/night.

For eg

www.theguardian.com/us-news/ghislaine-maxwell

www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/ck8vkvd8q9dt/ghislaine-maxwell

news.sky.com/topic/ghislaine-maxwell-8790

peridito · 02/12/2021 10:23

Lots of detail on that Houseofhabit instagram link .But aargh ,it's hard to read ,I don't have time to keep clicking on bites of it .

Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way to access what Jessica is posting ?

The name may not carry cachet, as you say, but the network amongst the powerful of the world will be huge.

I've looked on her account and can only see one post of Leonardo Di Caprio which doesn't really give any details at all.

I was very confused too - the posts are on her story!

orangepeelsz · 02/12/2021 11:31

She has a "GM" highlight on her profile which if you click gives all she is adding to her stories in order

Chocaholic9 · 02/12/2021 11:46

Found it. Thank you

PerditaNitt · 02/12/2021 11:56

Houseinhabit does some fantastic stories which can lead you down some internet rabbit holes. Her Britney Spears coverage was great. The latest thing she did on Jared Leto was interesting too.

There are some podcasts which cover the background to the epstein case. I’m listening to the Prince and the Pervert (what a name!) which has a summary episode, but it is heavy on detail. Can anyone recommend any better ones?
