Breaking news on Sky. David Amess MP has been stabbed ‘multiple times’. Feels like Jo Cox all over again, surely MPs need security around them? Some of the comments they receive on social media are off the scale. All parties as well. I can’t imagine a US Senator wandering around without security?

This is horrific. What is happening to us. Two attacks on MPs in a decade.

My thoughts are with David Amiss and his family.

I've just been reading. How awful. There's never an excuse for violence.

MedusasBadHairDay · 15/10/2021 14:06

Jesus, that's awful. Hope he's ok

AlexaShutUp · 15/10/2021 14:06

This is awful. Brings back awful memories of Jo Cox, who I knew many years ago. I wish him a speedy recovery. That poor man and his poor family.

MarshaBradyo · 15/10/2021 14:07

That is so awful

Luckytattie · 15/10/2021 14:08

Abhorrent

SixTwirlingTutus · 15/10/2021 14:08

I am so shocked and just hope so much he is okay. Thinking of him and his family.

Thurlow · 15/10/2021 14:09

So awful to see this, my thoughts with his family and friends x

HoldingTheDoor · 15/10/2021 14:11

How horrific. I hope that the poor man survives this and with minimal issues.

picklemewalnuts · 15/10/2021 14:12

It's appalling. What a world.

Fleurty · 15/10/2021 14:16

I've met him, he hosted a parliamentary reception I went to and gave a tour to a small group of us afterwards. He spent hours of his own time taking us around everywhere we were allowed to go and answering questions. He's done a lot of work regarding raising awareness of Endometriosis in Parliament and seems like a lovely man.

the80sweregreat · 15/10/2021 14:16

It is so so sad.
Whatever your political views , this type of thing should not happen to anyone.
Poor man, I hope he survives this.

DomPom47 · 15/10/2021 14:20

Awful. It is so good that we have access to our MP’s and it will be such a shame if constituency surgeries were got rid of for the safety of MP’s. Hopefully he will be fine. How can someone do this - apparently ran into the church and stabbed several times. Shocking.

PersonaNonGarter · 15/10/2021 14:20

This is where Angela Rayner’s ‘scum’ remarks get us.

People genuinely believe politicians are justified targets of abuse.

Deathraystare · 15/10/2021 14:20

Shocking! I knew the name and knew he was MP for Basildon. I know of very few MPs but somehow I know his name!

Let's hope he is ok. Anymore of this behaviour and MPs will need armed guards for going about their daily business.

Leading on several online news sites.

Horrible.

Tealightsandd · 15/10/2021 14:21

This is absolutely awful news.

I really hope he's ok.

People are far too forgiving of this abuse. It’s rife online and feeds into it
Mummyoflittledragon · 15/10/2021 14:26

This is horrendous. I hadn’t thought of the connection to Angela Raynor’s comments. It sounds as though the man has been arrested, who did if. But why? And is it really an isolated incident or did others know it was going to happen?

PersonaNonGarter · 15/10/2021 14:27

Horrendous for all politicians.

He was there to try to help people. He was listening to peoples concerns.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/10/2021 14:28

awful, awful thing to happen to anyone.

dongke · 15/10/2021 14:28

Yes it's truly awful. I hope he is ok

GCAcademic · 15/10/2021 14:28

This is awful. I remember how shocked and horrified when the attack on Jo Cox was reported. Sadly, I am horrified but not entirely shocked at this latest attack. The political climate has become utterly toxic in the last five years (and, yes, MPs like Raynor contribute to it). We are in a very bad place as a country right now. And I think we are looking at the end of constituency surgeries now that this has happened three times.

Indeed. This is appalling.

I disagree with his stance on many things but, as has been pointed out, he has been a great supporter of raising awareness of endometriosis and also fighting against animal cruelty.

Poor, poor man and family.
