Things/food/people you want to like, but just don't

Hi,

Just thought I'd start a lighthearted thread about this, as it popped into my head this morning that no matter how much I try, I just don't like porridge and it really annoys me. Irrationally so. Let's be honest, It really doesn't matter if I like it or not, but I keep persevering for some reason. My issue is, do you need to chew? Do you just swallow? Confused Do you use it to put up your wallpaper?....

Oh and also, whisky. Always sounds so nice. Hot toddy, a wee dram, scotch on the rocks. All lovely sounding things, but it tastes rank! To me anyway.

I'm sure I'll think of plenty more as the thread goes on.

Over to you Smile

Avocado - guacamole looks so good but, let's face it, it's slimy phlegm!

ToDoListAddict · 18/05/2021 14:11

I'm the same, I can't stand porridge either!

I'd love to like tea and coffee but I just can't stand the taste

NaToth · 18/05/2021 14:13

Lentils.

I've tried, I've really tried, but no, I just can't do it.

ChannelLightVessel · 18/05/2021 14:14

I can’t stand hot porridge - I hate warm milk - but I like it made overnight in the fridge with milk/natural yoghurt.

As to a person, Kylie Minogue. She is talented and hard-working, and by all accounts is charming and lovely. I just don’t like her. I feel quite guilty about it.

Running.

It's a cheap and easy (as in don't need equipment etc.) Way to get fit. I want to enjoy but I haaaate it.

SweatyBetty20 · 18/05/2021 14:16

Chinese food. All of it. It's not the ingredients individually (although I hate corn), it's that sticky sweet sour glutenous mass it turns into.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 18/05/2021 14:18

Ditto with porridge, although if I put enough jam or honey in readybrek it is just about tolerable.
Mine is red wine. I’d love to have a nice glass of red with dinner. I like my rosé cheap and sweet and it’s just not classy Wine

Crazybabylady14 · 18/05/2021 14:18

Daniel Beddingfield. He always seemed nice in interviews when he had that song out back in the day. But his voice, face....I very much irrationally just wanted to slap him 😬

And smoked salmon. The smell, the flavour - yum - but the texture 🤢

indy2please · 18/05/2021 14:19

Peppers! I really don't like them! Cooked or raw I really don't enjoy eating them

PinkPurpleParade · 18/05/2021 14:19

I randomly hate Taylor Swift. My DD loves her and I just find her irritating.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 18/05/2021 14:19

Tea, coffee and salmon. It looks so nice and colourful. The drinks are just annoying to dislike - I feel like a child with my water or hot chocolate.

BramStoker · 18/05/2021 14:21

I love porridge but completely agree about whisky, I really want to like it but it's vile!

I really wish I liked the taste of coffee. Love the idea of a gingerbread latte, an espresso martini or a cappuccino but sadly they all taste of coffee!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 18/05/2021 14:23

Olives. I’ve tried and tried, but I just can’t get on with them.

Richard Aoyade. I have no idea why he irritates me so. I loathe the advert he’s in.

OhToBeASeahorse · 18/05/2021 14:23

Whiskey/brandy - I'd love to be sophisticated and I love the glasses but hate the taste!

Badyboo · 18/05/2021 14:24

Country walks. I love seeing the views people get photos of. But whenever I go on a long walk, I'm a sweaty, bored, mess, longing for the pub and a nice sit down.

FluffyBlueJumper · 18/05/2021 14:25

All types of tea / herbal tea / fruity tea. I really want to like them because I drink way too much (decaf) coffee.
I have tried dozens of them. I hate them all.

Giggorata · 18/05/2021 14:25

Whisky. Feels wrong to hate it, with my Scottish heritage. And I have friends who love it, to the extent that they get loads of rare and posh single malts and have tastings, with a quaich, no less. Still hate it. 😖

MephistophelesApprentice · 18/05/2021 14:27

Another one for coffee.

There's a powerful addictive stimulant, like cocaine. It's not only legal, but culturally you're encouraged to consume it in vast amounts while you work. But it tastes like a someone burnt some seeds, fed them to a cat and it vomited them into a cup.

The universe is cruel.

Strokethefurrywall · 18/05/2021 14:28

Dirty martinis. I want to be able to go into a bar and with a throaty husk and order a “dirty martini, extra dirty, extra olives”. The trouble is I fucking hate olives, neat vodka and gin.

Same with whiskey. Husband is Scottish and it would be pretty cool to be able to throw back two fingers, neat. But I don’t because it tastes and smells like paint stripper.

Dee03 · 18/05/2021 14:29

Tomatoes.....

I want to like them but I just don't....I think it's the texture Confused

Veronika13 · 18/05/2021 14:29

I think you develop a taste to things. For example sashimi or tartare.

Chicken would taste rank of it's boiled on its own. But flavours make us like it, and we develop a taste.

That's how I developed it for whiskey.
I love that it has no carbs or sugar so no impact on my waistline. And I like the strong taste because it makes me not drink too much of it.

Luckyelephant1 · 18/05/2021 14:29

Oh I think I have a weird obsession with porridge, hot with a dollop of honey and peanut butter- it's like a hug in a bowl.

For me it's popular drinks/cocktails like porn star martinis or aperol spritz. Also all white wines or rose wines (but I love red).

Freshprincess · 18/05/2021 14:40

Whisky seems like one of those sophisticated things I should be into, but it’s horrible. I went to a fancy whiskey tasting thing with work years ago and I could barely swallow a mouthful.
Also blue cheese or any other smelly cheese. My team used to go for regular meetings at this pub that did a huge sharing cheese board that everyone would go mad for. I’d eat the celery and grapes and silently wish they’d chuck some dairylea on there.

Zara I want to love it, and I’ve tried, but none of it ever suits me. I’ve got one black dress after many years of trying.
