Hi,

Just thought I'd start a lighthearted thread about this, as it popped into my head this morning that no matter how much I try, I just don't like porridge and it really annoys me. Irrationally so. Let's be honest, It really doesn't matter if I like it or not, but I keep persevering for some reason. My issue is, do you need to chew? Do you just swallow? Confused Do you use it to put up your wallpaper?....

Oh and also, whisky. Always sounds so nice. Hot toddy, a wee dram, scotch on the rocks. All lovely sounding things, but it tastes rank! To me anyway.

I'm sure I'll think of plenty more as the thread goes on.

Over to you Smile

Ah, not alone on the porridge a d whisky front then.

Just watching Countdown and remembered how much Richard Madeley annoys me. I think he's probably perfectly nice, but he really gets under my skin. That contrived, "relaxed" demeanour and the loooong drawn out story telling Angry God he loves the sound of his own voice!

Yoga.
I want to like it because it’s meant to be so good for health and mindfulness but honestly I feel like yoga is just a weird passive-aggressive femininity contest.

I also get miffed when you tell someone about a problem you have, no matter what it is, and they say “Have you tried yoga?” Like the modern-day equivalent of “I’ll pray for you.”
Even when it’s something that the yoga woo obviously can’t fix, like a flat tire.

I have tried it and yoga is not for me. I don’t like the clothes, mats, fake smiles and “wellness” claptrap.
It’s not a sport, it’s boring and you’re not supposed to laugh when someone farts or falls over.

AbsolutelyFudged · 18/05/2021 14:49

Grin @ suggesting yoga for every problem!

I have so many funny scenarios in my head now, so thanks @snowqu33n

I hate the taste of whisky but I do love a good single malt, preferably a Speyside one. Singleton or Aberlour for preference, that's very specific of me.
Coriander, it's on and in lots of food but I fine the taste revolting, it tastes like soap to me. It's like grated Palmolive, I can't stand it anywhere near my food.
I'd love to enjoy peppers, but they taste vile and they do repeat on me, day after day.

jenesaisqu0i · 18/05/2021 14:53

Olives. I want to like them but they taste like soap to me!

Hellcatspangle · 18/05/2021 14:55

I'd like to love olives but they make me gag. Have been out for drinks abroad so many times and they put a little bowl on the table, would be really lovely to have a little snack before dinner but...bleugh

Vinorosso74 · 18/05/2021 14:56

I also dislike porridge and whisky. Bananas are another one, I have tried them in all different ways but I can't stand them not even in smoothies or banoffe pie which I think looks lovely but can't eat it.

AbsolutelyFudged · 18/05/2021 14:56

@Fuckingcrustybread, yes! Coriander would have been top of my list, if I'd remembered. My sister LOVES it and doesn't understand where I'm coming from at all. I don't mind it cooked, like in a soup, but chopped and sprinkled on raw 🤢 It doesn't taste like food!

Coriander tastes like burnt plastic to me.
Avocado & olives...so good for you? But vile.
Can’t stand tofu, rubbery, tasteless plasticine

AbsolutelyFudged · 18/05/2021 14:58

Ah, I thought olives would be a popular one. I know so many people who want to like them and keep trying them, even though they hate them Confused

Really, life's too short for us to be doing this Grin Why don't we just keep eating/drinking the things we do like?

I don’t like tea, but I don’t particularly want to like it, so it’s fine with me!
As a child I didn’t like milk or cream, but wanted to, mostly because of Enid Blyton’s descriptions of jugs of creamy milk.
I would like to like driving. I hate it.
I love oysters, but I would like them to like me. Having thrown up three times after eating them now I have decided our relationship is probably over.

AbsolutelyFudged · 18/05/2021 15:00

Hmm but then actually I persevered with Aperol Sprtiz (very brave of me, I know) and now I bloody love it!

I used to agree about whisky, but then I bought some Famous Grouse to use for hot toddies when I was feeling a bit bleurg, and had some over ice and it was actually nice! I think my issue with the stuff dh lives it's very smoky and strong and gives me indigestion. The FG stuff is blended and wasn't any of that.

I do not like dry roasted peanuts. They smell and taste odd. Funnily enough the other day I thought I'd try a bit of peanut butter with marmite. Love both separately, but together, they reminded me of dry roasted peanuts. Yuk!

SisterAgatha · 18/05/2021 15:02

I wish I liked wine. You can have a cheaper night out, it’s in lots of cocktails so I can’t have them either, and posh restaurants always put it in things like I’m supposed to be grateful.

AnxietyMumEpi · 18/05/2021 15:05

Dirty fries.. chips, cheese, bacon, sour cream all so delicious. But I absolutely hate the taste of them all together. They're not healthy so I don't know why I want to like them, but God they sound so nice!

ThursdayWeld · 18/05/2021 15:06

Olives
Beer
Coleen Nolan

Dacquoise · 18/05/2021 15:07

Tuna on a pizza with cheese, blurghh. Same with those tuna and cheese paninis.

Cowbells · 18/05/2021 15:07

Noel Fielding. DC tell me he is hilarious and he has the reputation for being a lovely man but he just puts the shivering creeps up me.

Cowbells · 18/05/2021 15:09

Tofu too. I actually make an amazing tofu dish as so many family and friends are vegan. But I can't eat it. It makes me gag. And they always ask me to make it.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 18/05/2021 15:13

The coriander thing is genetic, my mum and I both have it, but the rest of the family can eat it no problem. I loathe it so much I can't even be near it - I once gagged until my eyes watered when someone was chopping it close by, the smell was 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮.

I wish I liked wine, beer and spirits that aren't heavily mixed with something. I know it's probably healthier to abstain, but sometimes I'd love to be able to join in when everyone's enjoying a cold beer or glass of wine on a warm afternoon. I just hate the taste - my tastebuds shrivel up when it hits my tongue. I can drink spirits if the taste is completely disguised by coke/tonic/OJ, but shots are an absolute no no. I can't drink coffee either unless it's practically half milk and has at least three sugars in it. Basically I have a palate that's stuck in childhood.

bellropes · 18/05/2021 15:14

I agree about the yoga. It's just so boring. I have adhd and can't concentrate on the damn breathing and am clumsy so I fall over and fat so I can't do the positions due to a spare tyre or three. What are you supposed to think about whilst you're doing it? All I can think of are the household jobs I'm supposed to be doing or the cat's pestering me for food.

Dacquoise · 18/05/2021 15:18

Amanda Holden. I'm sure she's a lovely person but she seems preened and polished to an unnatural level.

longtompot · 18/05/2021 15:18

Just remembered, cheesy chips. Greasy and just not nice.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 18/05/2021 15:28

Vegetables and salad stuff other than potatoes, onions, gherkins, marrowfat peas, lettuce and spinach (and cherry tomatoes as long as they're sliced)

I want to enjoy them so much! I want to eat better and healthier.

Carrots, cauliflower, radishes, cucumber, sweet potatoes, peppers, celery, cabbage, parsnips without being covered with honeyroasted flavouring etc etc etc....

I want to enjoy a proper salad or a proper side of roasted veg alongside some meat but I just can't do it, I genuinely don't enjoy the taste (and or texture) of vegetables.

StevieNix · 18/05/2021 15:33

Salmon! I can’t stand the taste, but I so badly want to like it. I don’t mind very thinly sliced smoked salmon but I don’t like it - I can tolerate it.
Emily blunt - I have NO idea why but she makes me irrationally angry when I see her on tv/films etc - I’m sure she’s a lovely woman, and she is beautiful but her face just irks me for no reason!
