Things/food/people you want to like, but just don't

Hi,

Just thought I'd start a lighthearted thread about this, as it popped into my head this morning that no matter how much I try, I just don't like porridge and it really annoys me. Irrationally so. Let's be honest, It really doesn't matter if I like it or not, but I keep persevering for some reason. My issue is, do you need to chew? Do you just swallow? Confused Do you use it to put up your wallpaper?....

Oh and also, whisky. Always sounds so nice. Hot toddy, a wee dram, scotch on the rocks. All lovely sounding things, but it tastes rank! To me anyway.

I'm sure I'll think of plenty more as the thread goes on.

Over to you Smile

@usedtobeboss3

Bananas- they're so useful. Filling, healthy, portable - but I just don't like the taste. Oh, and Tom Cruise.
Yes bananas for me too. I can't stand the texture, or the smell.
Mairyhinge · 18/05/2021 16:44

Cheese! I wish so much I could like it. I love it melted but otherwise nope. When I was little I'd say ' I can't like it' which is true because I try and try but I just can't like it. 😩
And I can't STAND Dermot O'Leary... he irritates my nerve endings and makes my teeth itch 😡

Mairyhinge · 18/05/2021 16:46

Oh and wine! Never ever got to grips with it and it all tastes like vinegar to me.
So I'd be hopeless at a wine and cheese party 🤣

oopsydaisyyy · 18/05/2021 16:49

avocado 😩

@MsTSwift

Dogs. Sorry. I don’t wish them harm but I don’t want them near me or jumping up at me or having their shit smeared around. Sadly almost every family know now has one and when my friends talk about them I can’t join in and frankly don’t give a stuff.
Yes. And I want to like them because so many people use your like/dislike of them to judge you as a person.
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/05/2021 16:50

Chips. Even as a child I never liked them; I just can't be fussed with them at all. It is such a nuisance to go out to eat (e.g. a pub lunch) and have ALL the meals accompanied by "chips and salad garnish". I'm usually stuck with the choice of either being picky (reject chips), awkward (ask for alternative to chips) or wasteful (leave chips on plate).

fifteenmillionmerits · 18/05/2021 16:55

Butternut squash. When I was still at college, a pasta dish had squash in it. I never tried it - because the smell made me feel seriously nauseous - god knows why. To this day I still haven't worked up the nerve to buy some and cook my own.

Furball · 18/05/2021 17:00

chocolate cake - I like chocolate and I like cake, but put the two together and imho it ruins both.

Vursayles · 18/05/2021 17:00

Holly Willoughby. I get the impression from people I’ve spoken to about this that not liking her is a massive “me” problem, as she’s generally considered absolutely lovely.

queenatom · 18/05/2021 17:09

Scrambled eggs - I used to hate all eggs but have managed to train myself to like poached and fried so I can eat brunch at all the wanky cafes round here. Haven't managed to learn to love scrambled though - people seem to really like them but they just make me retch. I think it's the texture that's the issue.

munchbunch12 · 18/05/2021 17:15

Salmon for me. I want to like it, I know it has lots of healthy fats in it, DH and the DC like it... but it smells and tastes as I imagine garbage at the dump would. Actually, I may have some sort of allergy or intolerance towards it as I feel physically sick when I smell it. One day at work I was sat in between 2 colleagues who both had salmon sandwiches at the same time. I was green and had to open the window and go hide in the toilets until I thought they'd finished Envy definitely not envy!

munchbunch12 · 18/05/2021 17:18

Wave to fellow salmon haters... glad I'm not alone!

bigbaggyeyes · 18/05/2021 17:18

Smoked salmon. Really want to like it... I can eat it but don't really enjoy it.

bigbaggyeyes · 18/05/2021 17:19

Coffee! Absolutely love the smell, but the taste - urghhhhhh

HandlebarLadyTash · 18/05/2021 17:20

Yoghurt - low fat delicious, loads of flavours. Tastes like sour milk ugh

whosappleman · 18/05/2021 17:26

I second whiskey! Looks so comforting and classy.

Also for me, olives

Porridgeislife · 18/05/2021 17:27

Bacon sandwiches. I know you’re meant to love them but I just find them chewy and greasy. Quite like a sausage sandwich though.

Turkey in all its forms. It’s just disappointing chicken.

I’m also a salmon doubter. We actually have it once a week & I only like it if it’s slightly over cooked.

Cheesecake, it looks so delicious but i hate the aftertaste everytime!
Oh and sitting in the pub is not my thing either!

bedtimestories · 18/05/2021 17:33

I wish I liked coffee, can't even stand the smell

SantanaBinLorry · 18/05/2021 17:34

Yes to yoga and meditation, makes me feel worse.

fresh chilli, garanteed in 3/4's if not more of most menu. I like flavour, but does EVERYTHING has to be spicey?

My cousin hates salmon so much even how its spelt pisses her off Grin

LunaNorth · 18/05/2021 17:37

The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. I like Zoe, and I’ve really tried to listen, but it’s awful. She always sounds one sentence behind dead air and it’s just inane.

Plain chocolate. I know it’s healthier and you only need two squares, etc etc, but it’s just not very nice, is it? That’s why people can stop after two little squares.

My new haircut. I have a bob that looks like a crap wig, and no matter how much I faff with it and squint at it, it’s no good. I hate it.

SophieB100 · 18/05/2021 17:51

Lorraine Kelly - brings me out in hives.

pheonixrebirth · 18/05/2021 17:52

A Bloody Mary cocktail, it always sounds good. I always like the idea of a Bloody Mary with brunch but the reality is that I can't stand tomato juice.

purplecorkheart · 18/05/2021 17:58

Coriander, I hate it. Goats cheese, the smell along makes me want to be sick. Full fat make makes me feel I drinking butter.
