Hi,

Just thought I'd start a lighthearted thread about this, as it popped into my head this morning that no matter how much I try, I just don't like porridge and it really annoys me. Irrationally so. Let's be honest, It really doesn't matter if I like it or not, but I keep persevering for some reason. My issue is, do you need to chew? Do you just swallow? Confused Do you use it to put up your wallpaper?....

Oh and also, whisky. Always sounds so nice. Hot toddy, a wee dram, scotch on the rocks. All lovely sounding things, but it tastes rank! To me anyway.

I'm sure I'll think of plenty more as the thread goes on.

Over to you Smile

And summer - more contraversial.

I have a health condition that drastically affects my body temperature all year round. I am absolutely bright red dripping with sweat without wearing a coat when outside (and inside but it's not so bad then if I'm in my own house - not the same in shops etc) even in winter but in Summer it's even worse.

My head literally feels like a boiling kettle when it's at its worst just bubbling away.

Summer adds: It's too hot, lack of sleep, stuffy headache, hayfever adding its feeling like death sway to it, needing to scratch your throat/nose from the inside, heatwaves, everyone getting bad tempered cos they can't sleep too or escape the heat, my abusive neighbour leaving their back door wide open so the booming music played from inside their house is just as audible outside the house, summer holidays so even more people out and about in the shops and staring or asking why you're as hot as you are or making rude comments, shopping melting as you try and get it home during the heatwaves, cars like microwaves.... it's too much!

The Guardian.

I have always been on the centre left politically, so the Guardian should be for me, and I used to read it every day when I was younger. But in recent times it has become completely obsessed with divisive identity politics and hierarchies of victimhood.

As a former Labour activist in a marginal seat in Derbyshire, I know very well that this ‘woke’ agenda, which the Guardian constantly promotes, is toxic to traditional white working class voters. I have become convinced that it, and the liberal London bubble to whom it preaches, don’t actually want Labour ever to win again. I didn’t leave the Guardian, it left me.

100% agree about porridge. I really want to like it, but its like a bowl of snot. I also don't like whiskey, but I have no desire to like that.

usedtobeboss3 · 18/05/2021 15:46

Bananas- they're so useful. Filling, healthy, portable - but I just don't like the taste.
Oh, and Tom Cruise.

AbsolutelyFudged · 18/05/2021 15:48

Just thought of another one - meditation 🧘‍♀️ I really wish I enjoyed it or it at least helped me, but I always seem to end up more stressed! Obviously I'm not doing it right though.

Greta Thunberg. She is right about the climate disaster but I can’t warm to her as a person at all.

smitheireen · 18/05/2021 15:54

Mushroom

Mochudubh · 18/05/2021 15:59

James Blunt

MonkeyPuddle · 18/05/2021 16:01

Mashed potatoes. They’re absolutely vile.
Vile, vile, vile.

But I want to like them as they should be lovely and comforting.

But even the smell of mash turns my stomach.

Enroljas · 18/05/2021 16:03

Olives
Avacado
Massages
Wine

flinginflangin · 18/05/2021 16:07

Nutella. I seem to be the only one I know who hates it

Xanadu58 · 18/05/2021 16:07

Marmite , love the smell , dont like the taste

baggies · 18/05/2021 16:08

Mince pies, Christmas cake. Dried fruit especially sultanas and cherries all make me gag. It's totally the texture. I like pastry, I like icing, I like cake but not the fillings.
Smoked salmon too. Again the texture.

MsTSwift · 18/05/2021 16:14

Dogs. Sorry. I don’t wish them harm but I don’t want them near me or jumping up at me or having their shit smeared around. Sadly almost every family know now has one and when my friends talk about them I can’t join in and frankly don’t give a stuff.

merryhouse · 18/05/2021 16:17

@Veronika13 whisky has over 100 calories per serving - just because it "doesn't have carbs" doesn't alter that fact

(ps sugar is a carb)

spookybitches · 18/05/2021 16:22

Gin - sounds so much more sophisticated than vodka

Stillfunny · 18/05/2021 16:22

The gym.I know it would be good for me. But I just hate the idea of communal exercise , repeating some motions , the smell , the noise.

Any voting reality show , especially singing . Just boring to me .

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 18/05/2021 16:26

So many!
The beach
Fancy cheeses
Ice skating
Most alcoholic drinks

FrDamo · 18/05/2021 16:26

Egg yolks: I can eat scrambled egg, omelette, egg fried rice, cakes and any other food containing the whole egg etc but can't bear the yolk part of a boiled egg or fried egg.

Baked beans. Never, ever eaten them in 5 decades on this planet.

Tea? No thank you.

Coffee? Double no thank you.

Coffee and walnut cake, tiramisu, coffee ice cream, espresso martini? Pass them all my way in large quantities

Tiramiwho · 18/05/2021 16:28

David Walliams! I can't watch anything with him on it. I am ashamed to say I have an irrational urge to smack away his fey, grinning mug😳 Tunafish stirred into pasta, Tunafish, beef, chicken or sweetcorn as a pizza topping..Gordon Ramsey and and Gino da Campo, Pip Schofield...Anyone who makes tired innuendo jokes, especially about the word "stiff"...The banter between Kirsty Allsop and the Phil guy...

KatherineJaneway · 18/05/2021 16:29

Smoked salmon. Everyone acts like it is a treat but not for me!

purrswhileheeats · 18/05/2021 16:30

Daniel Bedingfield is so 00's and random 😂 I do often wonder what happened to his sister, I quite enjoyed her music Grin

I have two friends who insist cucumber is lovely - I bloody hate the stuff. Although it's preferable to celery 🤮🤮🤮

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/05/2021 16:34

@BobbinThreadbare123

Avocado - guacamole looks so good but, let's face it, it's slimy phlegm!
And tastes a bit like grass.

Porridge is great OP. It all depends how you make it. I have it every morning.

I would really like to be a grown up ad be able to drink wine, but I just hate it, and it makes me feel a bit ill. I would also like to be able to have an alcoholic drink with a meal but it makes me sweat like mad, so I do feel a bit like a child asking for a coke while everyone else drinks pints and glasses of wine 😂. Accept dp, he's still drinking vodka and coke and never deviates unless it's wkd or mad dog. He's like a 15 year old 🤣

Neonprint · 18/05/2021 16:37

Exercise

I have absolutely no idea what people are talking about when they talk about the post exercise buzz. I'm just hot and knackered. Blush

@purrswhileheeats I have a natasha Bedingfield song on one of my Spotify playlists (unwritten) I really love it and just rediscovered it via tiktok. No idea about her brother though!

Imissmoominmama · 18/05/2021 16:40

Penne pasta- I think it’s the hollowness. I usually ask for spaghetti in my pasta dishes.

New World wines- too acidic and fruity.

Films and TV- I don’t have the attention span unless it’s something that really interests me (but I’ll read quite happily- weird).
