Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

Asda used to do these cheese and onion rice cakes about 15 years ago that I loved to devour

SirDidymus · 04/05/2021 10:44

Those hot custard puddings that you sprinkled biscuit crumbs on. Came in different flavours but cannot remember what they were called?

Mochudubh · 04/05/2021 10:44

Vesta beef risotto
I think you can still get that -try Poundstretcher, they definitely do the Chow Mein.

I would bring back Border Creme Eggs, they had a tartan wrapper and chocolate fondant filling.

Abbey crunch biscuits. I don't know why but no other oat biscuit I've tried has ever tasted the same and I am resigned to never again enjoying an oaty biscuit without a secret melancholy Sad

Walkers cheese Snaps (you can still get the spicy tomato ones but not the cheese ones).

Birds hot chocolate crunch pudding.

Chicken & bacon Crispy Pancakes.

Sara Lee chocolate gateau.

Super mousses.

Piglet crisps.

Any squash/fizzy drink that had full sugar. Today's versions with artificial sweeteners are 🤮

Apple & raspberry squash.

Cadbury's chocolate that tasted like it used to.

Orangina (I know you can still get it in small bottles at petrol stations but can't seem to find it in 2 litre bottles any more).

YouDoIDo · 04/05/2021 11:39

idontlikealdi · 04/05/2021 11:58

Oh my god Gino Ginelli!

Safeway used to do a smoked ham and chicken sandwich and it was our Saturday treat, it was so nice. I mourn it regularly.

Tandoori crisps, they were in a purple bag, can't remember the brand.

M&S Chicken tikka sandwich.

smogsville · 04/05/2021 12:00

Sara Lee pecan danish. Great big round pastry from the freezer section with icing all over it. You warmed it through in the oven it had loads of cinnamon it was amazing. I would never make another pudding when we have people round if I could still buy this.

Cheese and tomato pot noodles. I bloody loved those.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 04/05/2021 12:44

Potato puff crisps. I adored them and my grandparents always kept a stock for me, so good memories of time spent at their house too.
