Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

@SirDidymus

Those hot custard puddings that you sprinkled biscuit crumbs on. Came in different flavours but cannot remember what they were called?

Just about to say this one. Haven't liked custard desserts since I was 5 but for some reason I absolutely loved these. The chocolate one was the dogs doodahs

I loved Secret bars and always come on these threads to say them! I remember the packets of orange powder for drinks too, remind me of my nana who used to send me them in the post

Cadbury's Spira - was the best chocolate bar ever!
Orange Lucozade - but before they tinkered with the formula. In fact, lot's of food before they played with the formula (Cadbury's again!)

@Yogaposer

A chocolate bar called "Secret", nobody else seems to remember it but it was absolutely heavenly.
Also, Etenmanns desserts.

I remember Secret bars they were lovely. The trick was to eat them side ways so the chocolate didn't crumble everywhere

OP, I loved that chicken and mushroom casserole!

I’d forgotten about it and now I am full of grief....

@farmerpalmer

Heinz vegetable salad
Lucozade before they messed with it

And yes to the quosh

I feel real sadness at the loss of the original lucozade. I would treat myself to a bottle when I'd come home to Ireland and I loved it so much. The new incarnation is just trash.

The chocolate ice cream sauce that hardened after you’d poured it and had to crack it with a spoon.
I miss that so bad

Beefy squares crisps. They are my favourite crisps ever but no-one else remembers them. They were around in the early 2000s.

Gambit chocolate bars. They had a layer of dark, milk and white chocolate on every piece.

You can still get that! I buy it for my children! In Aldi I think...

I just miss all the food before it was tinkered with! Original Ribena, Cadbury’s, Bernard matthews Turkey drummers, findus crispy pancakes! Amazing to think of the food my otherwise healthy conscious mother let me eat! Grin

I know it’s healthier for the benefit of the youth but those who remember miss the good tasting food

Quosh Jungle Juice cordial. I can still remember the taste of it.

If this is the bright green cordial then absolutely! We used to call it Spider Juice because my mum said it was made out of crushed spiders and we all thought it was the best thing ever! A bottle didn't last long with 5 kids Grin

Turkey twizzlers. The new version recipe is terrible and nothing like the original. I know it’s probably healthier and doesn’t include beaks and feet but I still miss them!
