Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

@SirDidymus

Those hot custard puddings that you sprinkled biscuit crumbs on. Came in different flavours but cannot remember what they were called?
Were they like a hot chocolate custard? With biscuit crumbs on & in a purple packet? I just came on to mention those, they were lovely but I can’t remember what it was called either!
strugglingwithlife · 18/05/2021 10:09

Oh Riva bars, I completely forgot about those, they were lovely!

@klfahah

Lidl, M&S and Sainsbury’s still sell ready salted chipsticks

I also used to love those gummy fangs, not sure who made them, think they were around in the 90’s. They were I ften in pick n mix’s or sold for 2p in tubs at the newsagent.

klfahah · 18/05/2021 20:19

@spindlewhorl no not chipsticks. They were very thin like a match I've googled and found coop and M&S do some that are similar.

klfahah · 18/05/2021 20:29

Yes those gummy fangs were lovely I remember those

YY to Abbey Crunch
Mint cracknel bars
Kunzel cakes

klfahah · 18/05/2021 20:47

And cherry lips and floral gums. I always remember them sticking to the paper bag you used to get them in and used to nearly pull your fillings out eating them but they were lovely. Can sometimes still find them on retro sweet stalls.

@klfahah

Yesssssss!! 😋

IntermittentParps · 19/05/2021 13:28

Oh God yes, cherry lips and floral gums! Floral gums are the weirdest thing, aren't they? Not really sweet, just like eating a mothball. And so perilous for your teeth.
I LOVED cherry lips. I remember them being tiny.

What were Riva chocolate bars like?
And YES, Ringos! Loved them.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 19/05/2021 14:20

M&S used to do an amazing alcohol-free tiramisu. I hate alcohol in desserts and I really miss it.

I also remember these little chocolate balls filled with raspberry mousse that we always had in the fridge. They might still be sold for all I know but I can't remember the name.

mrshonda · 19/05/2021 20:27

Were those matchstick crisps called French Fries?

mrshonda · 19/05/2021 20:30

If they were, Walkers still do them.

Eggshausted · 19/05/2021 21:22

Home Bargains sell Ringos

Love this thread 😁
I loved fizzy jerks when I was a kid. And I remember being able to get Jolly Ranchers quite easily over here for a while. It's a shame that so much has either disappeared or been messed with so much it's unrecognisable from what you remember

ozymandiusking · 19/05/2021 21:26

Jilly Swindon, Asda sell Hazlenut yoghurt. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Ventura sweets if anyone remembers in the 90s. They were like a long thin stick and chewy if I remember correctly.

Rainbowsparkle · 30/05/2021 17:47

Heinz also did bagel bites around the same time which were lush!

Rainbowsparkle · 30/05/2021 17:51

Cadbury’s shoe people bars. They were like a Freddy but wispa type chocolate.

Disney gummy bear sweets.

Heinz bagel bites

Fizzy jerkz

Woppa bars
