I've been researching my family tree and there are a lot of surnames, mostly usual Irish, Scottish but some interesting ones and it got me thinking about surnames in general.

I always thought Italian surnames are very beautiful, Baccino, Santangelli.

I love ones that are simple such as Flower, Beach and Ocean too.

So, what's the most beautiful one you have ever heard?

I once knew a Dr Dan Danger. There's an academic at the LSE whose family name is McDoom. Such great names.

@BikeRunSki oh yes! I'd like a Comfort Golightly in my life!

On the other hand, having that name might be a bit of a burden... imagine everyone expecting you to be as delightful as your name!

I like Alesworth, Faraway and Midwinter.

When we got married we did consider just changing both our names to something else entirely as we both had one syllable last names and prefer longer, and weren’t that fussed about carrying it on, but we didn’t do it in the end.

@Cheekyweegobshite I think it may have been either Geography, R.E, or P.S.H.E? Or English. It was a while ago!

I had a friend whose Surname was Murray. Her mum was from Stoke on Trent and often used the word "duck" as a term of endearment at the end of a sentence. She once checked into a hotel where they were expecting a Mrs Murrayduck.

I knew a lad with the surname Ribbons. His then girlfriend was called Poppy. Don't know if they ever married but Poppy Ribbons is absolutely a children's character's name.

My friend is descended from the Parisio family (Italian). I've always thought that sounded gorgeous.

I've always loved the surname Kokosalaki, they way it just rolls off the tongue. I think it's Greek.
