What is the most beautiful surname you have heard?

I've been researching my family tree and there are a lot of surnames, mostly usual Irish, Scottish but some interesting ones and it got me thinking about surnames in general.

I always thought Italian surnames are very beautiful, Baccino, Santangelli.

I love ones that are simple such as Flower, Beach and Ocean too.

So, what's the most beautiful one you have ever heard?

I always think that surnames like Love, Darling, Dearlove and Valentine would be an absolute curse. So twee.

I've always fancied being Mrs Tomasz Schafernaker

I used to giggle over a couple that my parents were friends with. Gay & Les Bimann (not sure of spelling).

At 13 I thought it was hilarious but my parents were mystified.

I went to school with a Honeywood.

There were identical twin boys called Devine. Boy, did they get around!

whatshallihavefordinner · 30/05/2021 11:51

My grandmas maiden name was Goodchild.

@whatshallihavefordinner

My grandmas maiden name was Goodchild.

What a lot to live up to. I don't think I'd have coped with the pressure!

I used to work with someone called Lilly Terranova which I always thought was such a gorgeous name. Also taught a lad called Jaime Casablancas. Much more lyrical sounding than James Whitehouse . I often had to phone someone at work called Susie Pine-Coffin which though not beautiful I didn't ever forget.

Mr Takanoshita

Scarby9 · 30/05/2021 19:24

I have worked with people called
Golightly
Gotobed
Shufflebotham
All of which I love.

However, I wasn't convinced by Mr. D'Eath (pronounced Dee-ath).

FuzzyPuffling · 30/05/2021 19:25

Mine is. Which is why I chose it (old family name). But I'm not telling you what it is as it is unusual (although old English).

Roselilly36 · 30/05/2021 19:41

Angell, pronounced Angel.

101spacehoppers · 30/05/2021 19:41

I know some Spearpoints which is pretty cool.

StripeyDeckchair · 30/05/2021 20:11

I was at school with a Love and a Gay
Miss Summerbell was a nursery teacher I knew.
My mother's maiden name has been mentioned several times.
My maternal grandmother had an extremely unusual maiden name - too outing so say what - 150 years ago there were less than 100 people with that name & they all lived within walking distance of each other. everyone with the name is related.

whiteroseredrose · 30/05/2021 20:42

DH has a friend whose maiden name was Summerbell. I think she married someone called Evans or Jones .

purplejungle · 30/05/2021 20:46

Midwinter

Footle · 02/06/2021 07:43

@Scarby9 , De'Ath means 'from Ath' in Belgium. A hard name to carry off in anglophone countries.

Footle · 02/06/2021 07:45

Sorry, @HarleyD91, just read your posts!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 02/06/2021 07:56

Fuglsang. Danish for birdsong.

Scarby9 · 02/06/2021 09:32

@Footle
I assumed De'Ath was Norman, so that's interesting. The person in question had looks with grim reaper overtones and was one of the most joy-sucking people I've ever met - which didn't help!

Enko · 02/06/2021 09:36
