Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

The Thick of It. I love it and no one I know has ever watched it, despite my constant recommendations!

anastasiakrupnik · 23/02/2021 22:45

The 100.
I started watching as it's full of ex-Neighbours cast members (which no one I know watches either) but six seasons on DH and Iare still watching. It's teens do Battlestar Galactica, a sort of post-apocalyptic Hollyoaks. But good.

SinkGirl · 23/02/2021 22:45

Oh I love Thick Of It. Also 2012 and W1A which are very similar in their humour.

Revenge! It was on e4, my stepdaughter and I loved it but everyone else has a blank look when I mentioned it!

I still have a major crush on Emily van camp

Oooh I LOVED Revenge too! Nolan and his 'I'm coming up with a scheme' looks made my day.

Ghosts
Utterly adore it, have no one to talk to about it Sad

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 23/02/2021 22:49

The Bold Type
The Secret Life of Us (really old)

Loved the Thick of It - a friend recommended it to me a couple of years ago. Wish I'd seen it sooner.

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 23/02/2021 22:50

I loved upload, I was properly hooked by the end.

I loved the UK version of utopia, I can't bear to watch the remake. I don't know why they cancelled it.

bluebluezoo · 23/02/2021 22:52

I love Upload. Revenge I watched too. Also into The Resident now because of Emily and Matt Czuchry.

An old series I watched years ago was Sleepers. Nigel Havers and Warren Clarke were two soviet sleeper agents who’d been in this country so long they were totally british. Brilliant TV. I bought the box set, just need to find time to sit and watch it.

Nowifi · 23/02/2021 22:54

I remember the secret life of us! Think I was too young for it at the time!

SinkGirl · 23/02/2021 22:54

I haven’t seen The 100, I will put it on my list!

I should add descriptions for mine...

Silicon Valley: comedy about a start up in (obviously) Silicon Valley. Dark and funny and a bit geeky, with brilliant characters

Barry: pitch black comedy about a hitman who wants to give up killing and become an actor. Impossible to describe well, it’s extremely dark in parts but hilariously funny

Carnivale: epic drama about the battle between good and evil, set in a dustbowl era travelling carnival. Amazingly good

Party Down: comedy about a group of caterers in LA. Each episode set at a different event. Very adult humour, but smart and lots of brilliant ideas

30 Rock: comedy about the writers and actors in a cable sketch comedy show (like SNL but less successful). Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are so good in it, and the writing is brilliant

The Shield: basically a Shakespearean tragedy set in the LAPD with possibly the best antihero on TV.

Also I forgot to add The Jinx - HBO documentary, possibly the best documentary I’ve ever seen (don’t read up on it first though!)

Looking forward to seeing your suggestions

Bootle Saddles (1984-ish)

MagdasMadHouse · 23/02/2021 22:55

Ghosts
The OA
The Originals
I May Destroy You

MagdasMadHouse · 23/02/2021 22:56

Oh and Chewing Gum.

They are missing out on Michaela Coel so badly

LunaNorth · 23/02/2021 22:57

Call My Agent - a French comedy drama set in a Paris acting agency. It has big-name guest stars (think Juliette Binoche, Monica Bellucci), a crackling script and is so perfectly Parisian.

I love it so, and hardly anyone will watch it - as soon as I mention the subtitles, they turn their noses up!

DoreensEatingHerSoreen · 23/02/2021 22:57

Hunters! (Prime)

There's some debate around whether it sensationalises the Holocaust in some scenes, but blimey - the last episode had my jaw on the floor!
