Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

I've just watched Motherland which I loved. I came across it on Netflix. I'd never heard of it.

SingToTheSky · 04/03/2021 09:49

I love motherland!

There was a brief series years back that had a similar vibe. May Contain Nuts I think it was called? Based on a book.

MargotMoon · 04/03/2021 13:28

I've just thought of another one - Portlandia. Sketch show set in Portland, Oregon. Co written by that Carrie woman who was in Sleater Kinney. It was on Netflix but got taken off and I've never seen it mentioned before or since

Just found out yesterday that Callan was being shown on Talking Pictures (early morning so I've got it on record). Excellent series with Edward Woodward at his best.

I only know of Motherland because of seeing so many posters rave about it on here over the last couple of years.

I watched and it it left me cold, none of the characters were the least bit like anyone I know in real life, I concluded that it probably represents a certain London demographic that doesn't really exist anywhere else. However I'm prepared to accept that might just be me as I know it's a very popular programme

midsomermurderess · 04/03/2021 18:09

I think Motherland very much reflects its writers, Sharon Horgan, Helen Linehan, Holly Walsh etc. When I watch it, it's like visiting a different world.

mammmamia · 04/03/2021 18:12

I’m in London and I have a group of school mum friends who really remind me of the Motherland characters Grin we all love the show too
We are missing the SAHD though!

Revenge!

I would love to talk to anyone else who is a fan.

Revenge has been mentioned a few times, I remember watching it when it first came out. In my mind I always link it with Brothers and Sisters because of Emily VanCamp

I don't know if that was popular at the time but I enjoyed it

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/03/2021 19:27

@FlyingBurrito It's how I imagine SW London school mums to be. I live in rural East Anglia and it bears no relation to anything within my experience which is why I love it. I'm prepared to be shot down by all the SW London mums insisting its not like that though!

PleaseStopExplaining · 04/03/2021 19:36

Away (Netflix). Proper gutted they cancelled it after one season.

Autumnchill · 04/03/2021 21:18

Better off Ted. Absolutely loved this then there was the writers strike and think it got canned after 2 seasons but it was brilliant

QueenofLouisiana · 04/03/2021 21:23

Inspector Montalbano. I love it. I speak no Italian (although I’ve picked up words from this!) but happily read the subtitles.
I love the weather, the good, the storylines. It has some humour, some drama, some romance.
Total escapism.

SeeSawSeen · 04/03/2021 21:26

The Bold Type - literally only one other person I know has heard of it and watched it! It's on Netflix now, so hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves.

Autumnchill · 04/03/2021 21:31

@OhWhyNot

I love Flight of the Conchords
