Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

Being human was brilliant and No Angels. Watching, from the 80s was brilliant.
Where can I watch Ghosts?

Dontsayyouloveme · 23/02/2021 23:36

Trollied. It’s the U.K. version of superstore and which I think came first!

Bloody love Jason Watkins!!

Nashville!

Loved it! I went to a concert with all the lads and Scarlett in it, in London. It was fab but my friends all thought I was weird.

Lovesick on Netflix. One of the sweetest, funniest shows noone I know has ever watched. The original title
("Scrotal Recall" - what were they thinking?!) sounds dreadful so it never took off and Netflix changed it. Give it a go and you realise it's a easy to watch hidden gem of a show about friendship and love in your 20s. Set in Glasgow with lots of familiar locations if you know the city, although none of the leads are Scottish. I am always recommending this but I think the STD related premise still puts people off trying - ignore it, you won't regret it as it's not really about that at all. I've just talked myself into another rewatch, wish they would make more but there are 3 seasons.

Also, For all Mankind on Apple TV. Season 1 was amazing, season 2 just premiered. There is a thread on here but no one I know in real life has watched.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/02/2021 23:42

Utopia as mentioned
Devastated also by the cancellation of The OA

and

DARK

I love Dark so much

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/02/2021 23:43

I don't know anyone in real life who's seen Good Omens, which I find astonishing as it's bloody brilliant. I keep mentioning to people, but hardly anyone has Amazon Prime so they haven't seen it.

Nobody that I know has seen The Expanse either, but that's less surprising as it's a bit intense and sci fi isn't everybody's thing.

SinkGirl · 23/02/2021 23:44

@Selkiesarereal

I came on here to say Superstore but happily there is another poster who has also watched it.

I should add that I loved Silicon Valley as well, so sad when it ended.

The end is absolutely brilliant though, perfect after everything that came before. All of the characters are fantastic too - I can’t pick a favourite.

Gilfoyle (aka Bill Haverchuck from the also brilliant Freaks & Geeks) is also in Party Down. If you can get hold of Party Down you should, I think you’d like it!

I loved an eighties sitcom called Who’s the Boss. Was a big fan of Tony Danza! I don’t know if it was popular or not back then but I don’t know anyone who’s seen it.

anascrecca · 23/02/2021 23:46

Early Doors

SinkGirl · 23/02/2021 23:47

There’s a Community episode where one of the subplots is about Who’s The Boss?

I hope everyone has seen Community now it’s on Netflix. It starts out okay but becomes absolutely brilliant and just gets better and better.

I loved the 100 but became a bit strange in the last season. Also enjoyed shadow hunters. Recently consumed the last kingdom. Fabulous.

Panticus · 23/02/2021 23:48

The Leftovers. Such a good show but I only know one person who has watched it.

Dark. Seems to be fairly popular on MN but I don't have anyone in real life to discuss it with.

Barry. Cracker of a show, so funny and dark.

I don't know why people gave such an aversion to subtitled shows - I tend to gravitate towards them if anything. We're watching Tabula Rasa at the moment which is proving to be great so far. Call my Agent is a delightful show too.

Call My Agent and The Leftovers are on my list for sure!

It’s so sad that Barry isn’t widely watched - it’s absolutely amazing. And NoHo Hank is the best character I’ve seen in a long time.

I’m sure it’s because it’s hard to avvess HBO content in the U.K. (although maybe it’s on Sky Atlantic as some HBO stuff is) but I know so many people who would love it.

@grafittiartist yes!! Two Doors Down. I don't know anyone who has watched it but I love it! Poor Beth!

LindaEllen · 23/02/2021 23:54

@anastasiakrupnik

The 100. I started watching as it's full of ex-Neighbours cast members (which no one I know watches either) but six seasons on DH and Iare still watching. It's teens do Battlestar Galactica, a sort of post-apocalyptic Hollyoaks. But good.
I love the 100 😄😄
quarentini · 23/02/2021 23:55

The OA

PlasticCupPolitics · 23/02/2021 23:55
@Blibbyblobby I loved Ultraviolet! I found it online a few years ago and it was still great.

I also loved Upload. I have tried to get my DC and DP to watch it and none of them will. Thought it was fab although I suspect at least part of that was due to the very handsome lead actor!

One series no one ever seems to have seen is How Not To Live Your Life. Was on BBC3 about 10-12 years ago. Bloody brilliant. I wish the BBC would put it on Iplayer.
I am genuinely shocked that How Not to Live Your Life is that old, just googled it and it came out in 2007. Now I feel ancient. Hilarious programme, proper laugh out loud!

I absolutely love No Offence on C4 but nobody I know has seen it!

Bigtroubleinlittletrousers · 23/02/2021 23:56

The End of the F*ing World
Catastrophe
Another vote for Friday Night Dinner
And Orphan Black which I’ve recommended to everyone but no one ever takes me up on it.

Ghosts is all on iPlayer.
SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 23:59

Hurrah I’m glad I’m not the only one who loved Nolan in revenge :o

Ghosts is on my list to watch :)

I’m very excited about the new section to Disney+ - there is so much on there, including FlashForward - DH and I started watching it when it was first shown on channel 5 I think?! But it was before we had any catch up TV and we didn’t keep up with it. I can’t wait to watch it properly! Kind of felt like the last series of torchwood, miracle day, which I loved

Cocolapew · 24/02/2021 00:02

Southland and Rescue Me are 2 of my favourite all time series.
I've never met anyone who watched Boomtown, it only ran for one series but it was excellent, also Prime Suspect USA.

Cocolapew · 24/02/2021 00:03

Revenge is on the new Disney channel too.

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 00:05

Oh that’s good.

Not for me though, I have it all on DVD 😳😂

everythingbackbutyou · 24/02/2021 00:06

@Pookaroo, Supernatural is filmed in my city, but never been lucky enough to run into Jensen Ackles or Jared Padaleki, much more's the pity. I haven't watched for a few seasons though (kids- say no more). You might also like The InBetween.

DonttouchthatLarry · 24/02/2021 00:07

American Gods - absolutely love it!
