Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

Enjoy InsanityRocks. Grin I heard an interview with Michael Sheen (on Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast) where he said that he enjoyed it immensely because he and David Tennant fill the same sort of off-kilter, slightly weird, character brief and therefore hadn't been cast together before, but they got on extraordinarily well throughout the filming and he had a whale of a time. I think they are both very quirky individually but together in that series the quirkiness was off the scale.

@cordelia16 Yep Adam Baldwin was in Firefly and another series our DC watched recently called The Last Ship (its on Prime). DH and I gave it a miss as it was about a global pandemic virus Hmm thought would get our brains ticking a bit too much! But, the kids love Michael Bay stuff and he did the series so high budget and slick and they pretty much binge watched them pretty quickly.

We've watched Sarah Connor Chronicles (the tv version of the terminator films) can recommend those too, although only two seasons of it. Summer Glau is one of the leads (from Firefly too they get everywhere lol).

Alan Tudyk from Firefly and Serenity is also brill, so thank you to posters who mentioned Resident Alien because I'd been unaware he is the lead in the show so have marked that to watch next.Smile

@Ponypizzy

Mum, massively underrated.
I agree. It was stunning. Lesley Manville is so good

@Notreallyawaitress I have been looking for someone to talk to The Blacklist about! I am 2 episodes in to series 8 and giving up. I thought I would keep watching if it was the last season, but then I saw it had been renewed for a 9th and I can't take any more.

Ltdannygreen · 01/03/2021 12:15

Nikita... absolutely love it

thanks for all of this! I'll take a look at some of these other shows :)

from what I've heard about Firefly, it had/has a rabid fanbase haha. I remember years ago when Chuck was first premiered at a sci-fi type convention, the audience went nuts when Adam Baldwin first appeared in the trailer haha

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 01/03/2021 13:22

I just started to watch a series called Scrugim, it’s about 5 people in their 20’s living in Jerusalem. I think any fans of Shtisel would like it.

ayegazumba · 01/03/2021 15:33

The Americans. I kept seeing it pop up on Emmy nomination lists so looked it up and it was on Amazon prime. One of the best series I've seen, up there with the Sopranos and The West Wing. I love dramas that are about real situations or groups of people giving you an insight into a different way of life that you know happens but know little about. This is about 2 married KGB agents in the Cold War hiding as a suburban couple in America. Just brilliant and deserved all the accolades. It just seems the hype didn't reach the UK!

VivaLeBeaver · 01/03/2021 17:34

I keep meaning to watch The Americans.

PetrovYelyenaAndMe · 01/03/2021 17:55

Flight of the Conchords - rediscovered during lockdown. Hilarious! Murray cracks me up 😂 None of my friends have heard of them. I have a cd of the songs from the series in my car and it has really cheered me up recently.

JosephineBaker · 01/03/2021 18:07

We love the Conchords!

I bought tickets to see them live for DH (Father’s Day) and DS (finishing GCSEs). They said it was a brilliant night.

MrsColinRobinson · 01/03/2021 18:29

If you love Murray from Flight of the Conchords you have to watch the episode of the X-Files called Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster.

OhWhyNot · 01/03/2021 19:30

I love Flight of the Conchords

Enjoy

Sunisinthesky · 01/03/2021 19:38

I've just watched The Knick. Period hospital drama. Quite bonkers but I loved it. Was made a few years ago but I hadn't heard of it. Clive Owen is in it and he's great.

Egghead68 · 01/03/2021 22:26

Bodies

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 01/03/2021 22:39

OMG Bodies was brilliant! I watched it when it was first out and DP & I watched it again recently.

SinkGirl · 03/03/2021 09:57

@OhWhyNot

I love Flight of the Conchords

m.youtube.com/watch?v=FArZxLj6DLk

Enjoy

Flight Of The Conchords is one of my favourite things in the world ever. But everyone I know well has seen it (because I’ve made them all watch it 😂)

I love Jermaine so much. Went to see them live, more than ten years ago now!

This thread is great. Going to give This Is Us, Good Omens and The Americans a try.

Also need to re-watch Flight of the Conchords but my DVD player doesn't work. Does anyone know if it is available to stream??

Mine are:

PhoneShop - sitcom set in...oh, you can probably work it out. Glad someone else is feeling the love @DirtyHydrogen

V - about an alien invasion where they were disguised as humans, was on really late at night in the 80s when I was a kid and I used to beg my mum to let me stay up and watch it.

Home - an Australian kids' tv show that was on in the 80s during a summer holiday. They showed an episode a day but I can't remember what it was about, just that I was gutted when I had to go back to school Grin

dianekeatonsocks · 03/03/2021 22:39

the Tick

bluebluezoo · 03/03/2021 23:59

Where do I watch Resident Alien? Love Alan Tudyk...

Rainingagaininseattle · 04/03/2021 02:22

Queer as folk, diary of a call girl (both 15 plus years old)

I hate suzie, picnic on hanging rock (series), the OA, the society, the last man on earth (massive thumbs up from me), pretty little liars

Rainingagaininseattle · 04/03/2021 02:26

And The Glitch and ex machina

Frazzledd · 04/03/2021 02:58

I watched 'Channel Zero' on prime, super weird anthology series but got me googling and looking for other stuff like it - had no idea what 'creepypasta' stuff was but made for an interesting Wikipedia read-

Frazzledd · 04/03/2021 03:11

Also 'Castle Rock' is fab, and just finished watching 'The Stand' -

I've seen 'Good Omens' about 3 times now, I loved the book and the series didn't disappoint at all, perfect!

Started watching 'Preacher' but haven't got the time to get into it anymore, I'll catch up eventually.

Also stuck with Dexter until season 8, never been able to finish it!

SinkGirl · 04/03/2021 08:33

@Rainingagaininseattle

And The Glitch and ex machina
If you like Ex Machina, have you seen the series Devs? Think it’s still on iplayer
