Aged 39, I've just ordered my first ever takeaway.

To be delivered. Never ever done it before. But got sick of cooking myself and miss eating out. It arrived in 9 minutes! So impressed. (It was Nando's!)

So impressed.

That your food was prepared, cooked and delivered in 9 minutes? How far away from the store do you live?

katewitch · 05/02/2021 17:39

Thats astonishing to me, I have to be talked out of ordering in once a week Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 17:41

1.1 miles away

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 17:42

That was just the journey time, I think. It was certainly no longer than 20 min from start to finish.

9 minutes! i've never had a take away arrive that quickly! enjoy Smile

GrumpyHoonMain · 05/02/2021 17:46

Nandos do tend to be quick. Takes them no more than 30-45 mins where I am. I think due to demand they’re still mass cooking chicken like they normally do. Enjoy!

Plussizejumpsuit · 05/02/2021 17:47

So have you never had a takeaway before or just only collected? Also why?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 17:51

No idea. We didn't do it when I was little.

KenAdams · 05/02/2021 17:56

So what have you done if you didn't fancy cooking for the last 20 years? Have you never had fish and chips/chinese/curry etc?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 17:57

Just got chips

Is some kind of strange posho humble brag?

The rest of us plebs get takeaways all the time.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/02/2021 18:06

Enjoy! Welcome to the dark side 🙈

GameSetMatch · 05/02/2021 18:06

It’s good to broaden your horizons! I had a Nandos takeaway last week and we got a really upset tummy it’s put me right off!

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/02/2021 18:11

I think we’ve only had a takeaway delivered here once but that might be one of the false repressed memories I have 🤨 dh would know.

I didn’t have a proper takeaway till I was 12 or so. You just didn’t back then, our neighbours years later sent their kids to the chippy every night. She only had bread milk and cereal in the cupboards.

I’d love a decent takeaway that delivered “it’ll be 50 minutes” and probably stone cold.

Sendingasurprise · 05/02/2021 18:15

Depends on your disposable income and delivery availability where you live. I 've only had them since children became teens....mostly Domino's. Probably about 15 takeaways delivered during the last decade,

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 18:16

@Crystal90567 I'm definitely not posh!!

We don’t! I’ve never been into Nando’s either. Or Wagamama.
Onlymeandthedognow · 05/02/2021 18:21

@Toddlerteaplease

I can beat that!! I ordered my first one during the original lockdown... I’m 56!!
It was pizza, chips and a bottle of pop!! My parents would have been outraged at “the waste of money” & my “idleness”
Felt naughty and guilty... But I really enjoyed it😁

I’m having it again tonight 8pm. ~ I’ll raise a glass of fizzy pop to you🥤

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2021 18:23

On the very rare occasions I have a takeaway I collect it.

LunaHeather · 05/02/2021 18:24

@Toddlerteaplease

But never had them delivered.
Same here

It's not a posh thing at all, just hate spending more on food than is necessary. I don't eat out if it can be avoided, it's so expensive.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it OP and i hope I don't steal your thunder by saying I've never been to Nando! 😂

Super pleb here.

Live too remote for delivery but never stops us collecting!

Are you savouring that ‘proper grown-up’ feeling? I get this whenever I order a takeaway (or many other normal, everyday tasks, I’m embarrassed to say) despite having done it many, many times. Arranging for food of my choosing to not only be cooked to my specifications but also brought to me and paid for out of my own money gives a certain sense of accomplishment - look at me doing adult things out in the big worldGrin

I’m 40.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/02/2021 18:32

Yes. It's really weird. I still can't get my head round not asking my parents if I can have an ice cream, if I'm out with them. I can just go and get one'

Delivery wasn’t a thing in the eighties.
