Aged 39, I've just ordered my first ever takeaway.

To be delivered. Never ever done it before. But got sick of cooking myself and miss eating out. It arrived in 9 minutes! So impressed. (It was Nando's!)

Meanwhile we are on our second McDonald’s of the week (please don’t judge we don’t normally have it this often but been a bad week). Where we live there are no take away deliveries as very rural so we’ve never got one delivered either. But I have no self control with going to get one 🤣

Weirdly many years ago I lived in a flat in a town centre with lots of take aways near me. One was in the same building on the ground floor and I never ever got take away yet now I live in the middle of nowhere I cannot get enough 🤣

DianaT1969 · 05/02/2021 20:37

I've only had takeaway delivered to my home once in my whole life. I had a guest who wanted a pizza.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 05/02/2021 20:37

This made me smile OP. I was at uni with a girl who grew up in an extremely isolated part of Scotland and she had never had food delivered before coming to uni. Having lived in zone 1 all my life, I couldn't share her excitement, but appreciated it.

justasking111 · 05/02/2021 20:39

Where we live deliveries only started about eighteen months ago. Just Eat. I ordered a couple of times when son home from university, so I was 62 when I had my first delivery. Was nice not to go out in the cold but it can take up to an hour or more to get the food.

Laughing at the never in my life faux indignation. Oh grab a pomander dear

redthefraggle · 05/02/2021 20:39

@NiceGerbil

Redthefraggle- I know reading the posts is a pita but it was only about the 4th one op clarified the timings!
Yeah, realised after posting she said more like 20 mins; it's been a long week. Was shocked after reading about a delivery driver picking up food orders and seeing the amount of waste and re-used food though. Has put me off using delivery companies for life.

I don’t see any indignation at all. People are just explaining why they might not have ordered a takeaway.
SleeplessWB · 05/02/2021 20:48

We always collect our takeaway (if I am allowed to call it a takeaway!!). Hardly ever used to have them but have made it our weekend treat every week since last March.... Sometimes feels like the only thing to look forward to at the minute. All the independent restaurants near us have started takeaway menus so you can get the same restaurant menu at home - it's great!

MsRinky · 05/02/2021 20:51

Well I have a takeaway delivered once in blue moon, but last week I had a kebab delivered by robot, just because I could, so there.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 20:52

I suggest you reread you’ve missed a direct never in my life quote @daisypond

WitchQueenofDarkness · 05/02/2021 20:52

Almost 60 here and I've never had a takeaway delivered.

On the rare occasions we order a Chinese we've always collected.

A sentence I wasn't expecting to read today.

rosetylersbiggun · 05/02/2021 20:59

I made the "never in my life" post and it was clearly a joke. (And nothing to do with not ordering takeaways, so not sure why you're being nasty.)

Stop clutching your pearls, dear.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/02/2021 21:05

You are taking the food away, what else would you call it?

We go and collect takeaways because we don't have deliveroo here and the others take forever, so it's not worth it.

I also don't agree with the deliveroo business model where they charge the restaurant a big cut and then pay someone hardly anything to deliver the food. I don't want any part of that.

Porcupineintherough · 05/02/2021 21:05

@MsRinky how does that work exactly?

NiceGerbil · 05/02/2021 21:06

My mum calls getting a ready meal from the supermarket a takeaway.

They have an actual takeaway of fish and chips when they're at the seaside.

I would be amazed if they've ever had a delivery!

rosetylersbiggun · 05/02/2021 21:09

Sorry if I offended anyone, obviously. Grin Grin

I just found it amusing how much posters were virtue signalling about never eating takeaway food, on the grounds that their pizza or burger was collected not delivered and therefore that somehow magically made it "not a takeaway". It's just really funny when MNers get all pedantic and split hairs like that. Like there's the slightest difference between a pizza ordered in person and the same pizza ordered via an app! Grin

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 21:09

I have no pearls to be clasped or clutched. But I am compelled to comment on hyperbole such as Never in my life

daisypond · 05/02/2021 21:13

@rosetylersbiggun
No-one is virtue signalling. The OP talked about “ordering a takeaway”. That expression clearly means very different things to different people.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 21:16

Funny thread for sure.
The never eaten a take away because it’s toxic waste posts

Questioning if it’s a stealth brag (can’t see what’s the gain)

Semantics about what constitutes a takeaway, lunchtime Greggs is a takeaway apparently

Hm2020 · 05/02/2021 21:16

I’ve had 4 delivered in the last 7 days Blush I love me an Uber eats had Japanese tonight curry laksa was amazing but gonna have a few weeks break from the takeaways I think!

Drino · 05/02/2021 21:17

I grew up in a remote area of the Highlands and didn't have a takeaway until I was 25 and moved to a city, it was glorious! I'm back in my home area so back to no takeaways and I still miss it like mad.

Ninkanink · 05/02/2021 21:18

@NiceGerbil

I've had nandos twice in my life and it was rubbish both times.

One of those things that everyone else loves and you are ????

It’s nothing special, I can easily cook better myself at home, and do, most of the time - but I do like flame grilled chicken so I’ll happily have a Nando’s once in a great while (like every few years). It’s quite good when you’re low carbing, as well.
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 21:24

Takeaway is a delivery meal and I note the op says takeaway too
But let’s not descend into the is it dinner or tea debacle Enacted on another thread

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/02/2021 21:44

We've had a couple of deliveries but we dont get Uber Eats of Deliveroo so it's just our local takeaways
