Aged 39, I've just ordered my first ever takeaway.

To be delivered. Never ever done it before. But got sick of cooking myself and miss eating out. It arrived in 9 minutes! So impressed. (It was Nando's!)

I think I have only ever had one delivered, but have collected a few.

Mrsmummy90 · 05/02/2021 19:53

whaaaat?!? How have you never had takeaway before?
I have to stop myself getting one a week!
On monday, the kids had been full on all day and I was shattered so made them some beige food with veg on the side and ordered myself a Dominos lol

Lovemusic33 · 05/02/2021 19:55

We rarely had take aways growing up other than fish and chips (that’s all there was where we lived).

We only had our first take away delivery 18 moths ago after I had surgery and couldn’t manage to cook for the dc, only one take away delivers to our house (we are rural), we have used them a few times since.

visitorfromtheplanetzog · 05/02/2021 19:55

I've never had a takeaway delivered either. The Chinese takeaway is within walking distance and the fish and chip van parks up the road.

Just Eat & Deliveroo & co haven't arrived round here yet.

daisypond · 05/02/2021 19:56

When we had our first ever takeaway in the first lockdown - it was pizza- we were a bit disappointed. We only did it because our student children were home from university and we thought we’d try.

Tuscadero · 05/02/2021 19:57

It's so much better now you can get food delivered via Deliveroo and Uber Eats from your favourite restaurant rather than just the traditional takeaways.

But I'm always fascinated by things people on MN admit to never having done or experienced. I once read a thread about a middle aged woman who'd never in her life spent a night alone. Blew my mind.

hansgrueber · 05/02/2021 19:58

@Plussizejumpsuit

So have you never had a takeaway before or just only collected? Also why?
I've only ever had food delivered once, from a local Indian, and we were in our 60s!
AmelieTaylor · 05/02/2021 20:00

you are BAD BAD people

Just eats here was absolutely crap. I just had another look...bloody hell! It has changed a LOT. But we still don't have any supermarkets on it)

Plus the Thai place has VEGAN food! They didn't used to do vegetarian, let alone vegan.

I HATE being diabetic (diet controlled).

ineedaholidaynow · 05/02/2021 20:01

@Tuscadero not all areas have Deliveroo or Uber Eats

Has it never occurred to you that many people on MN live in rural areas out of reach of any of these delivery services? Or that some on MN don't have two ha'pennies to rub together?
Peridotty · 05/02/2021 20:05

I am 34 and never had a takeaway delivered either! Never saw the appeal and I’m too cheap to pay for someone else to cook for me. I’ve only had 1 takeaway in my life (excluding fish and chips).

Covidcorvid · 05/02/2021 20:09

I’m in my 40s and never had a takeaway delivery. I’m too far from town for the likes of Deliveroo.

A few Indians deliver but when I’ve rung about a delivery they say it’ll be two hours for delivery with a £5 charge. Or I can pick up in 20 mins. No brainer.

Mooballs · 05/02/2021 20:10

I've only had one home delivery and I'm 51....had maybe two or three take outs?

Tuscadero · 05/02/2021 20:13

Blardy hell. I know that not every area has Deliveroo or Uber Eats.

Does every fecking post on this hellsite need to be prefaced with a disclaimer?

Porcupineintherough · 05/02/2021 20:18

We had our first ever home delivery takeaway last November. I am 49 and dh is 56.

kennycat · 05/02/2021 20:19

Good on you! We rarely have takeaways and if we do I go and collect them. I always like the idea of a delivery but then think - nah, I can cook something quicker! I feel I should amend my ways and get with the programme though!

Porcupineintherough · 05/02/2021 20:20

And we live in a city so cant plead extreme remoteness either. We've just always gone and collected it.

rosetylersbiggun · 05/02/2021 20:20

Never in my life have I come across anyone who regarded getting fish and chips or McDonalds (when not eaten in the restaurant) as anything other than "a takeaway."

What on earth are they, if not takeaways?

Do you all not know the difference between takeaways and deliveries? Grin

redthefraggle · 05/02/2021 20:22

9 minutes from ordering to delivery would have me seriously questioning the cooking and 'sitting' times of the food.
A recent report stated a load of chain restaurants cook up the food once ordered but loads of it is not picked up because delivery services (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat) don't want the order as it's not worth the fuel costs to them so the food either sits until it can be mixed into a deliverable order or is thrown away.
My curry order tonight takes an hour, every time, delivered by their own staff. I wouldn't trust chicken that was ordered, cooked and driven 1.1 miles in 9 minutes, sorry.

TurquoiseDragon · 05/02/2021 20:24

@Divebar2021

Deliveroo seems to have done very well out of lockdown... you see their drivers everywhere. You can just get puddings and ice cream delivered if you fancy it. I think Nando’s is a bit average but why not work your way through the options.
I wish. Deliveroo aren't active in my town yet.

And I've never had Nando's as we're a long way from one. Rural town, you see.

Neenan · 05/02/2021 20:24

I always collect, it’s never hot enough on a delivery.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 05/02/2021 20:25

I made fake Nando’s for tea. You can buy the sauces in the shop and make bigger portions Grin

PracticallyFloored · 05/02/2021 20:28

You read a lot of crazy stuff on MN, but this is probably the most baffled I've ever been Grin. Does not compute.

NiceGerbil · 05/02/2021 20:28

I've had nandos twice in my life and it was rubbish both times.

One of those things that everyone else loves and you are ????

NiceGerbil · 05/02/2021 20:30

Redthefraggle- I know reading the posts is a pita but it was only about the 4th one op clarified the timings!
