How is everyone coping with the heat?

Just wondering as I suppose i shouldn't really complain but it's the heat at night, I can't stand.
Have fan on right now, windows wide, water spray and just a sheet for a cover...and it's just about bearable....

Varying temperatures?
35 degrees here!

Delatron · 09/08/2020 09:48

There’s such a North/South divide at the moment.
Crazy that it’s 34 degrees in the south and about 19 up north

fuckingcovid · 09/08/2020 10:02

I did think of putting a tent up in the garden!

Ginfordinner · 09/08/2020 10:07

@midgebabe

There is currently a huge differential in temperature and humidity across the country In the south, it is at dangerous levels, ie the death rate will increase , so it's not just " stop complaining and enjoy it " territory any more,

And some people just tolerate heat better than others

I don't , so I find people complaining about it being "only 17 in. Northumberland" very insensitive

It cuts both ways Hmm
rosiethehen · 09/08/2020 10:09

I had three tepid showers the other day. I'm hot, sweaty, miserable, headachy, irritable and can't sleep.

It's not as hot up here though. I wouldn't cope if I lived in the south of the country.

PhoneLock · 09/08/2020 10:22

Over 30 in the uk is unbearable

It really isn't. Smile

Ginfordinner · 09/08/2020 10:34

Although, I agree that over 30 without aircon or access to a pool isn't very comfortable. My optimum temperature is about 23 - 25 degrees.

My point was the cold makes me feel dreadful, I feel fluey and achey through out most of winter. But the difference is, it is cold for so much of the year, probably 80% plus, that it really rankles when people whinge about the little bit of warm weather that we do have.

Yes, I could move somewhere hotter, unfortunately I married someone who can't cope in any kind of heat (and him being morbidly obese doesn't help).

Agree 100% for some people it's not just complaining for the sake of it. I get so ill in the hot weather - just like some do in cold weather. I get migraines, sickness, can't sleep.

When it's cooler and I don't feel like I'm going to pass out, I don't tell people to stop complaining!

BoomShacks · 09/08/2020 11:01

@Roselilly36 Sending you 💐💐💐 I have Lyme disease which causes symptoms similar to MS and, like you, the weather is causing a symptom flare. On top of that, I think the pollen levels are also affecting me. Terrible headaches, runny nose and ear pain. Preying for the rain to come sooner than Wednesday!

Frownette · 09/08/2020 11:11

It's really muggy here today as well. Hair firmly tied back.

Roselilly36 · 09/08/2020 15:41

Thanks you @BoomShacks yes I will be pleased when the weather breaks too.

Angelnix · 09/08/2020 15:52

I've just been to clean out the car ready to go away next week and am sweating in places I didn't know I could sweat! It's 30 here in Oxfordshire and I need a second shower today!!

Rockbird · 09/08/2020 16:26

Over 30 in the uk is unbearable

Yes. It really is.

Why can people not accept that other places don't have the same temps as each other. It's been horribly hot down here in the south for ages now. We don't get a 'few days of summer and then rain' down here. I bloody wish we did. I'm still waiting for winter 2019/20 to hit.

Also, people don't cope the same. So stop telling me it's not hot/not unbearable/stop moaning. It's so condescending.

x2boys · 09/08/2020 16:33

It depends where you are in the North ,I'm in the North West the weather is lovely ,not blistering heat but tea in the Garden ,kids in the paddling pool weather with a nice breeze

Exactly this!
delilahbucket · 09/08/2020 18:55

A frozen hot water bottle works wonders when it's too warm at night.

HeIenaDove · 09/08/2020 19:35

Massive thunderstorms and rain due while we dont have a proper roof Yippee Hmm

portocristo · 09/08/2020 19:44

Our upstairs is like a sauna, we have fans but I heard that if you open your loft covering it really helps so trying that tonight fingers crossed 🤞

Titsywoo · 09/08/2020 19:54

I've been fine the last 2 nights but then I've been in a hotel with aircon Grin

Got home this afternoon and it's pretty oppressive in the house and 26 degrees. Not sure how well I will sleep tonight. Hoping for those storms but we've been forecast them several times this year and I don't remember the last time we had any thunder and lightning here - at least 2 years ago I'd say. So I won't get my hopes up!

DrCoconut · 09/08/2020 20:10

It's really cool here. I've needed jeans and a hoody today. And put socks on. Hoping it warms up for our forthcoming camping trip. And no more rain either thankyou weather gods. A nice warm dry week please.

Worrysaboutalot · 09/08/2020 20:13

I can't feel the heat, due to a rare neurological condition. So for the first time ever I am fine in the heat !

Do you have to be very careful though, in case you overheat?
PhoneLock · 09/08/2020 20:36

Another gorgeous day for us warmth lovers. At least where I live. Just about hit 30 so not quite a good as yesterday.

Ginfordinner · 09/08/2020 20:59

TBH that is a bit of an over reaction. I loathe winter, but I don't feel that people who love winter are being "insensitive".
