How is everyone coping with the heat?

Just wondering as I suppose i shouldn't really complain but it's the heat at night, I can't stand.
Have fan on right now, windows wide, water spray and just a sheet for a cover...and it's just about bearable....

I absolutely HATE hot weather. Can't stand it. Roll on winter, dark nights, rain, snow, hailstones..... (Dreams on.....)

Roselilly36 · 08/08/2020 19:00

Really struggling, I have MS my symptoms are worse in humid weather, using cool packs & resting.

Honestly I can't wait for that! People think I'm mad when I say I love rain! It's due to rain Thursday so I'll be dancing on my balcony haha
HopeClearwater · 08/08/2020 19:27

It’ll get worse and worse if people keep buying air conditioning units! There was a good article in the Guardian last year talking about the need to build with the weather in mind, rather than building glass offices and sticking a/c in afterwards.

Generally I don’t mind the heat because it’s always a short lived affair in the UK but when I carried a stone or so too much extra weight in my 20s, I coped much less well. I’d really hate to be obese in temperatures of 25+.

Frownette · 08/08/2020 19:40

It has been clammy today, my hair is sticking to my neck.

I've used all the ice cubes up so need to do a fresh tray.

Nope.

It has been a breezy 19 degrees where I am.

I recommend watching Snow Animals on iplayer. Beautiful snowy scenery

Starksforthewin · 09/08/2020 00:53

Frownette I buy big bags of ice from Ocado- only £1 and it fills a whole freezer drawer. Got bored of faffing with those trays and always running out.

I also hate this stupid weather, why does British heat always have to be so humid and oppressive? 😡

notangelinajolie · 09/08/2020 00:56

Heat? Not really been hot here. Cheshire (ish) Smile

ThighthighOfthigh · 09/08/2020 01:03

I had air conditioners for the bedrooms delivered today £220 from Curry's.

The summers will only get hotter.

Sounds like a plan :)
CallarMorvern · 09/08/2020 01:30

What heat? Think it may have reached the dizzy heights of 19⁰C here. I love the heat, the cold makes me feel ill, always get pissed off at people moaning that it's too hot, as it's such an infrequent event, but is cold most of the bloody year.

Ginfordinner · 09/08/2020 07:26

CallarMorvern it has been hot in the south of England so the (south of England/London centric) media assumes it has been hot everywhere for ages. I am currently in Northumberland where today's maximum temperature forecast is 17 degrees Sad

maddiemookins16mum · 09/08/2020 07:38

Horrendous. I’ve had about 9 hours sleep since Thursday night. I feel like I’ve just got off a long haul flight, that foggy headed feeling. However, my frozen pack of peas wrapped in a tea towel has helped in the evenings.
I’ve been awake since 3am this morning, same yesterday.

KatherineJaneway · 09/08/2020 07:49

Mid morning I close all the doors and windows and shut the curtains. Put on the fan. Then late at night when it is cooler I open them again to let cool air in. It keeps the temperature bearable.

Oblomov20 · 09/08/2020 08:39

Hasn't been too bad. Humidity in Dorset and now home in Surrey is pretty awful.

In the shade there is a tiny bit of a breeze.

We have air con in the lounge and our bedroom. I think that's the only reason why it's bearable.

Hurry up rain and storms predicted Monday through to Wednesday, please.

midgebabe · 09/08/2020 08:40

There is currently a huge differential in temperature and humidity across the country
In the south, it is at dangerous levels, ie the death rate will increase , so it's not just " stop complaining and enjoy it " territory any more,

And some people just tolerate heat better than others

I don't , so I find people complaining about it being "only 17 in. Northumberland" very insensitive

MrsJBaptiste · 09/08/2020 08:44

Just love it! ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I love sitting in the garden after work, watching tv in the evenings with the doors wide open, sleeping with the warm air wafting round...

I try and make the most of any hot day as we get so few of them (Yorkshire)

jiffyjackfruit · 09/08/2020 08:48

We are camping, we had a bucket of cold water to pop our feet in...how old and middle aged !

Morgana7 · 09/08/2020 08:48

It was 30 degrees on Fri in Derbyshire. Our car doesn’t have air con so it was like stepping into an oven when we had to drive somewhere.
My ideal temp would be warm enough that you can sit outside and not need a coat on, but cool enough that you probably need a jumper on.

cushioncovers · 09/08/2020 08:51

I'm not coping, had a migraine yesterday 😞

midgebabe · 09/08/2020 08:52

The question Morgana is what is that temperature for you.

For me, sitting with jumper but no coat is probably 18 or 19. My friend it's nearer 27

Morgana7 · 09/08/2020 08:57

@midgebabe I was thinking 18-20 degrees.
It’s usually either cold and miserable here with lots of rain or blisteringly hot during the summer. Wish it could just be mild and sunny throughout

BiteyShark · 09/08/2020 09:01

Over 30 degrees is tolerable when you are lying by a pool doing nothing other than ordering drinks.

Over 30 in the uk is unbearable. Our dog really suffers as well.

KatherineParr4 · 09/08/2020 09:27

All those hating the heat should move to Scotland.
