How is everyone coping with the heat?

Just wondering as I suppose i shouldn't really complain but it's the heat at night, I can't stand.
Have fan on right now, windows wide, water spray and just a sheet for a cover...and it's just about bearable....

Claralane that’s awful. I had a c section two years ago during that bloody never ending heatwave but I was at least allowed a fan.

mogloveseggs · 08/08/2020 07:43

It's bloody horrid and I'm NW so it's not that hot but so muggy!
A bowl of ice in front of a fan will cool the air it blows around.

Ginfordinner · 08/08/2020 08:00

@BashfulClam

Heat? Not in Scotland. I bloody hate when the online news states ‘Britain’ is having 30c heat when I’ve not even opened the top button on my duffle coat.
If it's hot in London and the south east the media always goes on about a heatwave. I find it irritating. We don't all live in the south east. It is currently 13 degrees where I am, and going up to 19 degrees.
elstree2020 · 08/08/2020 08:05

Night time is the bit I find difficult, and when there have been longish periods of over 30C such as in Canada and parts of Europe, this is thought to be the cause of ill health amongst older and vulnerable people that is heat related.

PhoneLock · 08/08/2020 08:52

I'm in a boiling hot US state and we were 39C today so I'm wondering if we're talking about the same kind of temps? We are pretty dry here tho so I know if you're humid, it's worse.

Mid 30s here yesterday. It didn't feel particularly humid to me. I slept like a log last night under a duvet.

It doesn't ever last long though. More or less constant rain is forecast for next week.

GisAFag · 08/08/2020 08:53

It's hot for a few days. August is often crap, cloudy and cold. Enjoy the few days we have

Snog · 08/08/2020 08:58

I sleep downstairs- several degrees cooler than the bedrooms on the second floor.

midgebabe · 08/08/2020 09:02

Hard to enjoy it when you can't summon up the energy to move, you can't sleep and you are endlessly drinking fluid and just sweating it out . Hummidty 62%

Delatron · 08/08/2020 09:11

I’m a heat lover and these temperatures are fine on holidays with air con and pools.
I’ll admit it’s not much fun here as our buildings just aren’t designed for it.

I do love sitting out on a balmy evening. So it needs to be late 20s to be able to do that. 36 is a bit too much though. Dog can’t go out. We did t really go out of the house from 10 until 4. I’m happiest at about 25 degrees in this country!

Might invest in air con for our bedroom as we seem to be getting more of these very hot days in the south at least.

PhoneLock · 08/08/2020 09:28

The irony is that air-con contributes to the climate change we are all worried about.

Sparkletastic · 08/08/2020 09:34

Scorching already here in south east. Friend has a malfunctioning 'hot' tub that is in fact cold. Other friend and I have kindly agreed to join her in it this afternoon with some booze and snacks. We are generous like that.

corythatwas · 08/08/2020 10:10

Ha, ha, this would be the week we took off to do decorating! After a day spent enclosed with a sanding machine I was too knackered to even notice the heat in the night: I meant to sleep in the garden but never made it that far.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 08/08/2020 10:57

@PhoneLock only if you believe that climate change is man made which is far from certain.

Historically the temperatures fluctuate up and down all the time. Climate change happened long before humans.

midgebabe · 08/08/2020 12:10

But climate change often meant that the plant was mostly uninhabitable for people

And climate change usually occurred over a long time period

labyrinthloafer · 08/08/2020 12:12

Don't wake up the climate change deniers.

TheBananaInPyjamas · 08/08/2020 12:15

Struggling big time!

I think I have summer SAD (not seen a Dr admittedly, but read lots and lots of articles and all matches up) When I say this to people they think I've made it up 😓

Anyone else feel like that?

labyrinthloafer · 08/08/2020 12:17

@TheBananaInPyjamas I have not heard of summer SAD.

I find some people think almost everything is made up, unless a limb is visibly hanging off Grin

meow1989 · 08/08/2020 12:25

I hate it, it's so muggy it's like being in a steam room. Dreaming of winter! Our 2year old is sun creamed up to the max and has been naked for the last 2r hours more or less!

Haha that is true!

Well I definitely feel better in the Autumn/Winter. I always thought it was my colouring and I am not made for hot climates preferring the wind, rain and snow 🤷‍♀️
VincaMinor · 08/08/2020 18:04

It's not due to go below 30 until Thursday here. I prefer early 20s to early 30s. Or even lower is fine by me. My favourite is a sunny day in about April. That's perfect for me. It was lovely at the beginning of lockdown

orangejuicer · 08/08/2020 18:05

Not very well. I hate this weather.

OldSpeclkledHen · 08/08/2020 18:10

Am hiding indoors with the curtains shut 🙄🙄
What a waste of a day

IncrediblySadToo · 08/08/2020 18:27

Normally at this time of year I'm in France, in a village, LOVING the 35-39 deg, even in the packed markets!

But it's blue skies & sunny and HOT, not HUMID.

Today here it isn't even bloody sunny, just muggy.

I sat in the little bit of sun we had first thing, closed my eyes, drank my coffee & pretended I was there- that few minutes wa bliss, the rest has just been sticky.

& obviously my car has picked right now to needs it's aircon re gassing. I didn't even know it was 'a thing' Or I'd have got it done in advance FFS

PhoneLock · 08/08/2020 18:28

I've been outside stacking firewood for winter. I love this weather. If I didn't have family, I'd move to Oz permanently.
