MN vs real life

Can we have some (lighthearted) comparisons about what MN is like compared to real life. I'll start

MN: a roast chicken last for 14 days for a family of 5
RL: a chicken is cooked and the carcass is disposed of. At a push, the meat is taken off the bones for soup

MN: Parent and child spaces should only be used for randoms with invisible leg problems. Even if you have 5 children you should park in a normal space and not be so entitled as to think P&C spaces are for you
RL: Parents Park in P&C places and get annoyed when people without kids park in them

MN: Everybody wants a low key wedding with 6 people in the local cafe and the bride wants to wear a nightie she bought for 80p from the Scope shop
RL: most people have a lovely wedding in the region of £20k with a dress bought from a wedding boutique

MN: Everyone’s husband has a salary of 100k but they are still poor

RL: Family income is about 50k and everyone manages just fine

MN: All husbands use sex workers

RL: Most husbands would be terrified of sexual contact with anyone other than their lovely wife!

MN: No-one communicates with their neighbours other than by way of a note through the door, as they 'hate confrontation'.

RL: "Morning Burt. Any chance you can cut the weeds back from your side of the path mate? Only they're getting in the way of the pram wheels thanks."

That roast kicked one is from years ago, it is so tired and very, very stale. I can't believe people seem to think it's a thing.

And people are endlessly going on about their huge weddings here, planned years in advance, with the usual boring stuff about guests, future in laws and hideous hen parties.

@midsomermurderess the OP is being light hearted, if you don’t like it, don’t comment.
They might have wanted to start a thread for some company or after a shitty day, it is horrible to just pick it apart. They might have no friends in real life and this is a big deal and your comments might shatter what little confidence they have. You don’t have to say anything.

Everyone on mn just seems so unforgiving towards their family and in laws for trivial things like turning up unannounced or buying the kids too many / rubbish presents !
In real life we all say or do thoughtless things but you argue/ talk/ apologise/ forgive and move on , it's called relationships.

MN.My son is bright and quirky and in all the top sets at his grammar school and is applying to read medicine.

I'm sure you can think of something lighthearted to add to the thread, if you try.

"Get a nanny" is always a suggestion when someone is struggling for childcare. I do not know anyone in RL who can afford a nanny.

MN: I lost my temper and yelled at my husband/child/dog/goldfish so I have obviously booked in for anger management and therapy asap.
RL: I lost my temper. We all moved on.

MN: (even before Covid) No-one looks at, talks to or touches my baby until they are 15. Occasional exception permitted for baby's father and maternal grandparents. Paternel grandparents have to wait until baby is 18.

RL: Anyone fancy looking after my baby fir a couple of hours?

There was more than a grain of truth in it....

No one ever raises their voice. If you shout at your children or dp you are abusive and needs counseling.

Everyone needs counseling, even for the slightest problem, counseling is always the answer, because obviously everyone has money for that, because this is MN, where everyone earns over 100 grand a year.

MN ....Family time.

RL.....Everyone happier doing their own thing.

I remember some mad threads about people ‘dressing’ their house for autumn. Start of term in our house you’d be lucky to find it vacuumed...

RL: a little bit of an explanation as to why not, and mostly all is well. (no is definitely not a complete sentence!)

Oh and if you even let the thought of putting your 25 year old dog, who's riddled with cancer, shitting your carpets, completely blind and unable to eat food himself, to sleep, you are a disgusting murderer who should never have been allowed to own a pet.

I wish I had the time and fuinds to dress my house seasonally.

RL: Yes.

Ha, yes to a lot of these. Though it's really:

MN: you are read the thoughts and opinions of many on a variety subjects. Meaning you are exposed to opinions that are crazy different from your own.

RL: you have a limit amount of subjects you talk about and a more tend to socialise or talk to people with a similar group. Meaning you aremt exposed to different groups of people with different opinions.

Think this is shown in the shoes on/off threads. So many people know 'literally no one" who does it different to them. (Regardless of whether it soe on or off.)

On MN everyone is keeping up home learning through the summer for at least 5 hours a day.
IRL, well in our house. I wanted to burn the school work in the back garden more than the kids did.

MN: That woman on the bus who screamed at you and called you a cunt, because you took a moment to get your buggy onboard was probably having a bad day. You should have taken time to talk to her and offer to buy her a coffee and look after her children 3 days a week.

RL: Fuck this. I'm getting on the bus behind.
