Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

Emily Claire, in 1968. I always thought I would have preferred it to my actual name until recently. I suppose with age I’ve decided it’s not so bad.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/05/2020 11:38

Clementine

Windyatthebeach · 28/05/2020 11:38

geojojo · 28/05/2020 11:38

Amy

Bluntness100 · 28/05/2020 11:39

Filomena, my parents changed their mind on the way to the registry office.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 28/05/2020 11:39

Toby. Vetoed by my grandmother because it was "a dog's name."

So it became my middle name, replacing George. Which was lucky because otherwise my initials would have been KGB, and the cold war kicked off a few months later.

Guiltyfeminist1 · 28/05/2020 11:39

Rhiannon. I would've quite liked being able to use the Fleetwood Mac song as my own personal theme tune.

RottieLover95 · 28/05/2020 11:40

I was almost called Natalie, and I really wish they had called me that as I hate the name they gave me instead. And My middle name is Claire!! 😂

LizzieBananas · 28/05/2020 11:40

Unsurprisingly based on my username, Elizabeth

Bobbiepin · 28/05/2020 11:40

Barbara. I was born in the 90s.

thatsallineed · 28/05/2020 11:41

Jean. Apparently that's what my dad wanted to call me, but my mum put her foot down.

The other option was Peter, but I turned out to be a girl Grin

clary · 28/05/2020 11:42

Lucy. The nearest saints day to my birthday is Lucian, but my parents went with another one a few days away.
Don't know why the saints, they weren't that religious! I don't like my name but I'm not sure Lucy suits me either!

keepingbees · 28/05/2020 11:42

Stella. I don't like my name but I'm glad they chose it over that (sorry to anyone with that name!)

VirginWestCoast · 28/05/2020 11:42

Mary (Dad's suggestion)
Alabama (Mum's suggestion)

Lyricallie · 28/05/2020 11:43

Poppy but there would have been a whole alliteration thing going on so I'm glad I wasn't although I like the name. Also my mum said she always like Victoria so she could call me Tori. That didn't happen either lol. Apparently I would have been Charlie is I was a boy.

DulciUke · 28/05/2020 11:43

Mavourneen. Lovely name, but would have been mangled by everyone where we were living then (American South). It was the name of one of my mother's co-workers when she lived in DC.

andadietcoke · 28/05/2020 11:43

Hannelore - I used to be cross they'd gone for Hannah but would have hated constantly spelling it out. It's German I think - my mum spent a lot of time there when she was younger.

userabcname · 28/05/2020 11:43

I was nearly Charlotte but then my mum saw a film when she was approaching her due date and decided to name me after one of the actresses in it instead. I'm glad - I've always liked my name and I don't really like the name Charlotte!

Apinchofsalt · 28/05/2020 11:44

@keepingbees I have a teen who longs to have the name Stella

Lima45 · 28/05/2020 11:44

Georgia, the woman in the bed next to mum's on the maternity unit used it the day before so they went with their other choice.

I like my name but wouldn't have minded being Georgia.

ifancyagreencard · 28/05/2020 11:45

Fleur, after a character in The Forsyte Saga (1970s). Genuinely don't know whether to be disappointed or relieved Grin

kemosabeimalone · 28/05/2020 11:46

Britannia Hmm - thankfully my parents saw sense and went for Belinda instead!

Staywithmemyblood · 28/05/2020 11:52

Jill, but my mum changed her mind because I have a cousin called Gillian and she thought it was too similar. Didn't seem to concern her that my dad's name was Jack though 😬

ChequerBoard · 28/05/2020 11:53

Denzel, no lie and in 1970 so well before Denzel Washington made it a cool name. Back then, and in the deep South West it was more of a Wurzel-in-a-smock name. Very glad to have been born female and to have a very boring name.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 28/05/2020 11:53

Darrell. Thank Christ I was a girl.
